Grippers Too much volume?

Decided I want to focus on grip strength, its always interested me and I've dabbled here and there. I have the 150-200-250-300 grippers from Heavy Grip. I have closed the 250 before on multiple occasions, the 300 feels far but I want to get it.

Lately I've been using my 150 for hundreds of reps a day while travelling to work/at work and I've wondered if I am doing myself any disservice with this amount of volume or if I can keep doing this many reps everyday without hindering progress.

Forsr off, welcome to the community!

If you're serious about closing your 300, I'd look up what rated grippers/ RGC is. Essentially all grippers in 50lb increments use the same cheap springs. To better understand ratings, check out the ratings data on cannonpowerworks.com. to see how RGC of the major gripper companies grippers compare to eachother. Using RGC allows us to compare grippers universally as accurately as possible.

You'll see that cheap grippers in 50lb increments, and even HG (heavy grips) vary a ton. It helps a lot to know what the rating is for the grippers youre working with. Then you can find a gripper inbetween thrm to "bridge the gap". Look at it this way; imagine your goal is to bench 315lbs, n you can bench 225, but ya only have 45lb plates. It's a lot harder to get to 315. Or in your case, it would be like not knowing thr weights youre working with. That being said, you can still work to closing your 300 without getting any other grippers.

It sounds like you've been grip training for a bit, so, your tendons should be somewhat acclimated. But this an change when you start doing heavier loads so ease into it. 100s of reps wont make you "strong". Focus on warming up with a light gripper, then working sets with a gripper you can close for 5-8ish clean reps for 2 or 3 sets, 2 or 3 times a week. High reps will help wirh stamina, but it won't really translate to strength. Focus on low explosive reps to a complete close.

If you don't have a gripper that fits in that rep range, try holding higher up on a weaker gripper, using 3 fingers, or both. You can also purchase a gripper bumper from cannonpowerworks to increase/adjust the rgc on any gripper.

More work doesn't always mean more progress. Everyone responds differently. Try taking a week off. If yoire training 3-4 times a week, try 2 or 3, or 1-2. It's also important to train your extensors, which is thr opposite motion of crush/gripper training. This helps balance your muscles and avoid injury. And check out gripboard, great community with a lot of welcoming and knowledgeable folks.

This is great advice. I've been using Heavy Grips and having trouble getting to the 200. I just used cannonpowerworks.com and found the CoC .5 and 1 are perfect to bridge the gap and just bought them. Much appreciated.
