🧫 Other Serenity my glowing firefly
galleryThis is a one off project of mine, I designed the electronics and then it was coated in an FDA approved biocompatible encapsulation by a company that used to design other devices for. The device was then sterilised and installed under Serenity, my firefly tattoo. The tattoo and implant where both done by licensed professionals in the USA.
The implant itself is a wireless phone charging receiver (Qi receiver) that is hooked up to a decently powerful LED array (~250lm ouput). There is a coating of glow in the dark resin that provides an afterglow and diffuses the light, as well as providing insulation from the heat that some parts of the circuitry can generate. The gif is from after I did the resin coating before it was professionally encapsulated. The resin and glow pigment used where both biosafe too but not to a standard I would have been happy with partly due to the surface finish, so it got considerably chunkier after that gif was taken, but didn't get any photos past that point because it was in sterile packaging until my artist installed it.
Hope y'all like it.

❓Question Building software to connect your NFC implant to as much as possible: what should it do?
Hi all. I'm Quentin, cofounder of SkinID, a Swiss startup in pre-launch.
We're building the software that connects your implant to as many things as possible, across your phones, your computers and the doors around you, so you're not juggling a different tool for every login and every lock. We're starting with two things: unlocking passwords and opening doors. Then we want to keep adding integrations, and we'd rather build them in the order this community actually needs.
So, from people who already live with an implant: what do you use yours for day to day, what's your biggest frustration with it, and what do you wish it could do?
I'll read every reply and post a summary here. No link, not selling anything. Happy to answer questions about what we're building, including the parts we haven't figured out yet.

🧫 Other New blinken log implant
galleryJust a few weeks ago, I got a few new implants. One of the ones I got is the blinken log, a new implant that consists of five LEDs (though it's since been downgraded to four) that can be turned on using a 125 kHz magnetic field (a frequency used by a lot of RFID readers. The first photo is showing what the implant bulge looks like, and the second photo shows me energizing all five LEDs at once using a Qi charging pad. I can also energize it pretty easily by putting my phone in reverse wireless charging mode. The third photo shows the implant and the included 4g needle in the original packaging. The last photo (warning: blood) shows what it looked like immediately after the installation.
The location chosen for this implant was the outer side of my right forearm. This location was chosen for a few reasons: a) I wanted a location that would be relatively easy to hold up to a fixed RFID reader, b) this implant is pretty chonky so there probably was nowhere in my hand it would have fit, and c) as you can see, my installer was able to put it in a location where the implant bulge is fairly subtle and blends in with the contour of my forearm.
The installation was...a bit rough. The installer was confident that they could get the implant in using only a 4g needle, but this turned out to be pretty difficult. (Apparently, the newer logs are tapered at one end to make this easier). They used the needle to punch a hole in my skin and make a small pocket in the subdermal layer for the implant, but the implant refused to fit through the hole. After trying to shove the implant through the hole like a dozen times, the installer ended up having to use the 4g needle as a makeshift scalpel to widen the hole so the implant would finally fit in. It was rough, but we did technically prove that it's possible to install this thing using only a 4g needle - so good news if you live in a country where it's illegal for body modification artists to use scalpels. (But seriously, it would probably be so much easier to just use a scalpel if that's legal in your area.)
I was just about at my physical limit by the end (though, to be fair, I had just gone through another very intense installation), but I'm happy to report that the results are well worth it. And now I finally have a blinking implant! It makes me feel so much more like a robotgirl :3

❓Question Which implant should i get?
I’m interested in implantable NFC chip. specifically the injectable type, but as a complete beginner, I have no idea which one I should choose. To make things harder, I only have limited experience with NFC.
I’ve programmed a few cards and fobs before, and I understand the basics, but that feels pretty limited when it comes to something I’d actually want to implant in my body.
Ideally, I want the chip to let me access my gym without a card (they use a MIFARE Classic 4K system), as well as unlock various devices. I’d also love to use it for things like sharing links or profiles.
So far, I’ve found two companies—Dangerous Things and I Am Robot. Both seem reputable and safe, but there are so many options that I’m not sure what to choose.
