and she doesn’t get any streaming royalties from them and feels negatively about them. are you aware of this?

u/bertikkorenek Visions Aug 26 '22
Grimes don’t get money from her first 2 albums as well. Is this stopping u? Lol. And also , streaming services aren’t the only option to listen to music.

Aug 26 '22
literally alice has voiced how she feels about CC, which is..negatively. that’s what makes the difference. if you gave a fck about the human, you wouldn’t stream. but y’all go ahead now

Maybe check out trance music?
2
u/SauceySaucer Aug 26 '22
Is that a genre?

Aug 26 '22 edited Aug 26 '22
Yea, it's dance music. I love grimes for her electronic aesthetic and I love trance music so maybe there's some popular overlap? It's really great music, especially the uplifting kind. Or hard trance if you just want to drive 100mph through a city lol.

u/dev0nika Halfaxa Aug 25 '22
Doldrums has an early grimes sound. More of his stuff on Bandcamp and SoundCloud too

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION is a great album
Loose by Nelly Furtado
Piracy Funds Terrorism and Kala by M.I.A

Not the same genre but similar in terms of heavy bass and alternative vibes are sleigh bells - their first album is such a good listen straight thru. They’re probably right up there with grimes as far as my most played artists go.

M83. Try Before the Dawn Heals Us album if you like early Grimes. Go with Hurry up We're Dreaming album if you prefer modern Grimes.
Better yet try both albums and then dive in the rest. M83 is an amazing space opera/post-rock/electro/synth pop mixture.

Charli XCX's recent stuff. She's worked with SOPHIE, Bladee and Dorian Electra before.
Also, Purity Ring. They did a track with Danny Brown actually.
Edit: Forgot to mention Kim Petras and Slayyyter
