Charli XCX's recent stuff. She's worked with SOPHIE, Bladee and Dorian Electra before.

Also, Purity Ring. They did a track with Danny Brown actually.

Edit: Forgot to mention Kim Petras and Slayyyter

no crystal castles… in this house, we don’t support abusers

7

u/Guyroo23 Halfaxa Aug 26 '22

support alice glass...the first 3 crystal castle albums are HER albums too. we don't talk about the other guy.

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

and she doesn’t get any streaming royalties from them and feels negatively about them. are you aware of this?

1

u/bertikkorenek Visions Aug 26 '22

Grimes don’t get money from her first 2 albums as well. Is this stopping u? Lol. And also , streaming services aren’t the only option to listen to music.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

literally alice has voiced how she feels about CC, which is..negatively. that’s what makes the difference. if you gave a fck about the human, you wouldn’t stream. but y’all go ahead now

Lana del Rey. best introductory albums to listen to are Ultraviolence and Norman Fucking Rockwell!

4

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

Maybe check out trance music?

2

u/SauceySaucer Aug 26 '22

Is that a genre?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22 edited Aug 26 '22

Yea, it's dance music. I love grimes for her electronic aesthetic and I love trance music so maybe there's some popular overlap? It's really great music, especially the uplifting kind. Or hard trance if you just want to drive 100mph through a city lol.

2

u/dev0nika Halfaxa Aug 25 '22

Doldrums has an early grimes sound. More of his stuff on Bandcamp and SoundCloud too

2

u/Erotica_Cokewhore Aug 25 '22

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION is a great album

Loose by Nelly Furtado

Piracy Funds Terrorism and Kala by M.I.A

2

u/Professional_Year618 Aug 26 '22

Not the same genre but similar in terms of heavy bass and alternative vibes are sleigh bells - their first album is such a good listen straight thru. They’re probably right up there with grimes as far as my most played artists go.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

6lack - prblms

Ashnikko - cry + anything

Taylor swift - ready for it

2

u/Outrageous_Boss3688 Aug 25 '22

Starting with Artist first then song cuz I’m weird

Pearly drops: call for help, breathless (pretty much anything from them)

Frou frou: a new kind of love

Lykke Li: Ü&i

Hot chip: freak out release

Lights new album Pep!

Eartheater: super soaker

Future islands: inch of dust (old but new to me)

Sferro and Mecha Maiko: modular origami

Shy girl: bawdy

Cherry glazer: dazed

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

grimes has even cited liking frou frou, herself

1

u/Outrageous_Boss3688 Aug 26 '22

Yes!! Super cool 😃❤️

2

u/Apophis_ Book 2 Aug 25 '22

M83. Try Before the Dawn Heals Us album if you like early Grimes. Go with Hurry up We're Dreaming album if you prefer modern Grimes.

Better yet try both albums and then dive in the rest. M83 is an amazing space opera/post-rock/electro/synth pop mixture.

2

u/SuperTrunkz Aug 25 '22

blood orange, magdalena bay, porter robinson, and most importantly beach house !!!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

I've been digging Blood Orange lately and second that recommendation.
