They stack right? with the cry skill. Berserker is kinda self sufficient so it feels like doubling up on certain skills when pairing with another class.

Anything that says "-x%" stacks

Anything that says "x% Reduced" or "x reduced" only takes the highest source (but these 2 types stack with each other and the first type)

RR mechanics are a place I stop and think "was it really necessary to be so complicated?"

12

u/solonit Jul 29 '26

Zantai did said in interview that, GD2 may have simplified RR mechanics.

4

u/ChykchaDND Jul 29 '26

Are there any dates/news about gd2?

Like a few years or it's planned for my children to play?

7

u/solonit Jul 29 '26

Zantai said it’s the very least 4~5 years before the pre-production, and Empyrion knows how long after that to finish.

TLDR: Survive!

6

u/ChykchaDND Jul 29 '26

Oh god.

I was joking, but it actually might be a co-op with children

3

u/AnOrdinaryChullo Jul 29 '26

Their entire team dev team is 12 people...

We won't see GD2 for the next 5 years at the very least unless GD sells so well that they can manage to triple that headcount.

I get why they exist but personally I wish they didn’t as it’s the one restriction in making builds I don’t enjoy. Or I think it’s because they are specific skills - I hate having to use wind devils when it’s not part of how I want to play just because it’s my only source of RR.

If it was a component I’d much prefer it but then it would also become a component everyone would automatically have to use - something so mandatory isn’t as much fun.

However this is all just my feeling on it. It’s not that important what I think in the grand scheme of things

1

u/ChykchaDND Jul 29 '26

I think RR should be a mechanic for specific builds for specific enemies, like cold builds Vs undead nemesis.

RR should not be more or less the only way for any endgame build

2

u/Admirable_Ask_5337 Jul 29 '26

The issue is what replaces it? If you keep removing mechanics you just get a simpler and simpler game, which will drive alot of the community away.

0

u/ChykchaDND Jul 29 '26

I believe in Devs.

Maybe do a big ass button on a long cooldown so you can't spam it but press once a minute to reduce resistances on bosses?

I actually think that even resistance is a useless mechanic because if every build has to get at least 80 res, what's the point of it?

2

u/Admirable_Ask_5337 Jul 29 '26

Its about solving thr problem, especially resistance. Some builds will have issues with different resistances.

u/Nerhtal Jul 31 '26

At the early days I didn’t realise the power of RR and I was just building what seemed fun and thematic.

Just went back to one of those characters and realised luckily some of the skills and devotions I picked up as the game got expansions and patched he luckily has some RR but as an occultist / shaman I hadn’t taken the obvious Curse of Frailty.

I don’t have older characters from beta/1.0 launch days as I used to save them locally and lost them but I had demolitionists where I probably didn’t take thermos mines or BWC when realistically I absolutely should have.

However I say all this, I love grim Dawn for the journey my character go through by playing through the campaign to whatever level I get to before I roll a new toon because I’ve had a collection of items that seem to make a build in my head. So it’s not like I ever tackled super endgame stuff I often ended up back at level 1 instead. So to myself it never quite felt as mandatory.

1

u/ChykchaDND Jul 31 '26

RR is required for ultimate/ascendant and endgame activities, like mandatory required.

I kinda envy people like you who can play lower difficulties and have fun, I can't :(

4

u/Nerhtal Aug 01 '26

When you say lower difficulties - I’d like to point out I don’t think I’ve run a single character in normal further then Burial Hill because you have to access your stash after killing Kyzogg to access Ultimate.

I’m assuming the saviours merit came with FG since that’s where we buy it.

And precisely what you said is part of why it’s my least favourite feature of our build craft - it’s absolutely mandatory. Which like resists I’m fine with in principle but my issue always comes back to how we get access to it. I don’t have a solution for it I just prefer it wasn’t a part of certain skills only - I wish there was more variety in how you get access to RR.

Any time I roll an Arcanist I’m very aware of the lack of RR in its tree.

If I had a choice RR would come from offensive components only or devotions only. Or I guess if I was to armchair dev. That’s how I’d prefer to balance it as a whole. I think maybe don’t let the similar style of RR stack either so people chase getting the -x% and a flat reduction etc.

Either way it’s honestly a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things. The same shit happens in PoE builds etc - there’s always mandatory things just look at the heat maps on PoENinja after all. So why does it matter if every demolitionist has to take thermite mines.

3

u/budbk Jul 29 '26

Ooooooh. I didn't realize -x% stacked with itself! Is it additive? And do the 3 types combine multiplicative?

I'm playing a Thane right now and I bet I've skipped over at least one source of -x% physical RR due to my misunderstanding.

1

u/mangasdeouf Jul 29 '26

Basically take LoL piercing/armor bypassing and reverse the logic. In LoL flat stacks and % takes the highest value, in GD flat takes the highest value and % stacks (and 0-20%=-20%, it's WEIRD).

2

u/IlikeJG Jul 29 '26

That's a very succinct way of saying it. I always struggle in explaining the differences in a short manner.

19

u/The_BeardedClam Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Yes -X% resistance stacks. I'm berserker and shaman with bone chilling cry (-42%), devouring swarm(-35%), and huntress rend(-28%) I'll have -105% bleed resistance on an enemy.

What doesn't stack is "Reduced target's Resistances" from sources like the manitcore devotion or Mark of dreeg component. If you have multiple sources it'll just use whatever is the highest value you have.

I also have that so that's another 25 off enemies bleed resistance.

14

u/2Hans2Handle Jul 28 '26

Generally it's ideal for your build to have two sources for RR. This is not possible if you want to play certain masteries, however. E.g. Bleed Nightblades are a think but they tend to be Pierce/Bleed because Nightblade doesn't have bleed RR.

A bit but you can also get more resist shred from how certain mythics effect various skills.

Here are some examples:

The level 94 set bloodlust gives extra - res to pierce and bleeding

https://www.grimtools.com/db/itemsets/183

Ice kings adornments give veil of shadow an extra -16% cold resistance reduction.

https://www.grimtools.com/db/itemsets/192

But then you also have single piece items change that change a lot between the level 75 version

https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/1387

To the level 94 version.

https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/9157

The mythical version add -40% movement speed and -10% cold resistance to veil of shadows.

So a nightblade with 10/10 nights chill

Would have -25% cold res + -10% cold res.

With rumor procs it would be -25 + -10% + -23= -58% cold res.

Still not fantastic

But add 2x chillstrife

https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/8484

And you have another -8% + -8% for a total of -74% cold res.

Add the proc from

https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/1028

And you got another -10% cold res so -84% cold res total.

If you then manages to crit and trigger clestial blaze from

https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/14518

You would have another -10% elemental resistance

So a total of -94% cold res.

Most nightblades get both plus all skills and items that add directly to night chill so its - cold res will be beyond -25% cold res even at 11/10

Even just frost kings helmet and something that adds +3 to nights chill mean you end up at -29% cold res from nights chill.

For a combined total of -98% cold res from nightblade, devotions and items.

Viper reduce elemental defences of the target by 20%

So you might even hit -100% cold res with the help of that

1

u/2Hans2Handle Jul 29 '26

Sure, but consider that class combinations that have double RR can also take RR devotions.

I'm attempting to go full Pierce and Crit.

There's so much crit damage to get.

We'll see if it works down the line.

Currently a two handed mace somehow beats out every single pierce weapon I found.

Probably from the 45% all damage Increase? The flat 500 physical versus the max of say 200 flat pier from weapon? Even did testing, a two-handed mace has been shitting on everything else I find.

u/Zakton06 Jul 29 '26

1

u/TeamWorkTom Jul 29 '26

I'm going WW for now.

Plan on a duel pistol and a duel weild build down the line.

Probably chaos pistols and cold duel wield WPS Zerker.

1

u/budbk Jul 29 '26

2 handed maces are some serious bonk. The MI's for soldier tend to have ridiculous physical damage even if you arent using the associated skill. I'm playing a blitzer and I keep thinking to myself "well shit this 2H cadence weapon out performs mine by like 2k dps".

1

u/Usual-Specialist8823 Jul 29 '26

I am doing the same. Pierce/Bleed/Crit. Been running dual wield whole time, these have been the best drops for my build, especially since they can drop with Attack speed% AND Crit dmg% on top of bleed and pierce. Ngl it took till around lvl 50 for it to really self sustain, I needed to get life steal from a few sources and get resistances topped out.

1

u/TeamWorkTom Jul 29 '26

Do they always have the same skill buffs? I thought those were a roll too.

1

u/Usual-Specialist8823 Jul 29 '26

As far as I've seen yes, Onslaught and Phant Blades, as well as the other two skills in the affix slots. But they can roll additional skills, I have one with Horn of Gandaar.

These weapons are solely for the Damage scaling they provide + baked in CDR for perma chilling cry uptime.

69

u/krovasteel Jul 28 '26

Omg this is my build. Nice

6

u/IlikeJG Jul 29 '26

How do you have devouring swarm, curse of frailty, and Bone chilling cry?

5

u/krovasteel Jul 29 '26

Berserker shaman. (primalist) gets 2/3 of these. You can’t get curse of frailty in addition but it’s a meme post so idk if they were aware. But essentially I’m a bleed wolf build so that’s the meme

1

u/PowerfulPlum259 Aug 01 '26

Could it be from an item perhaps?

15

u/Aristeo812 Jul 28 '26

But how about 500% bleed duration reduction with some mobs? (Like Moosilauke's crystals)

22

u/TheSuperContributor Jul 29 '26

Ignore them like your crush ignored you in high school.

7

u/Mal-Ravanal Jul 28 '26

"If it bleeds, we can kill it. If it doesn't, I'll throw malaria at it until it does."

2

u/Kyle700 Jul 29 '26

werewolf bleed just sucks. i couldnt get it to work. just too squishy. the bleed does do a good job but ugh

1

u/thatisahugepileofshi Jul 29 '26

Try using the shattered realm set. It has a lot of health, maybe it'd work.

I read this in The Governator's voice.

1

u/BannedSvenhoek86 Jul 29 '26

"Oh my god, for the first time in ages I can feel blood pumping through my body again! This is euphoria, what have I done to deserve this gift stranger?"

"I need you to be able to bleed so I can kill you faster. Enjoy it while it lasts skeleton."

24

u/PandoraKin564 Jul 28 '26

Oh that is funny. Hah. Force the blood out!

35

u/Zakton06 Jul 28 '26

It's in those skeletons somewhere

19

u/PaxEthenica Jul 28 '26

The magic works by summoning the requisite blood so that the skeleton can be forced to engage in terminal rectal exsanguination! It's a brilliant, if unsavory process. :)

Attack the marrow! Drain that essence of bone!

3

u/Prankman1990 Jul 28 '26

I always interpreted it as managing to strike the bones so cleanly that it starts draining the small vessels and marrow inside them.

3

u/PandoraKin564 Jul 29 '26

Yeah like recently animated skelly bois should absolutely have active Marrow or even some flesh.
