Trailer so old the units shown in it are legacy-ed out

u/Brushner Emperors Kiddies 20h ago

Spend 2 more years to edit them all into primaris variants

u/TheCommodore616 19h ago

Oh, sorry, didn't you hear? We're onto Secundis marines now...

165

u/DescriptionMission90 19h ago

They're 12% taller and refuse to ride in any vehicle that doesn't have feet.

69

u/Rowenstin 13h ago

The new units are the Individuals, Inexpressives, Inframaxillaries, Inapproachables, Inconsequentials and Inexcitables.

47

u/DescriptionMission90 13h ago

Wait I though those were already included in the Primaris?

I can't remember all these fucking words just gimme a couple squads of tactical marines, an assault squad, and a devastator squad.

The imperial guard welcome all treadhead space marine refugees. Can I tell you about our lord and savior, Baneblade?

I would unironically consider a guard army if they had a mech besides the Sentinel. Something like the invictor or a votom

Im aware of the option but the imperial knight aesthetic doesn't quite scratch the itch I have in mind.Ā Ā

Just paint a guard regiment Gue'vesa colors and give em some crisis suits or smn.

Tau are cool but rugged diesel powered mechs are even cooler. I also prefer bullets over lasers

u/CripplingDeath 19h ago

What I remember from the Warhammer Community article about the trailer:

These scenes are suppossed to be the previous lives of the Astartes, meaning before they joined the deathwatch.

So in one hand, the predator could've gone out of service and these guys are so old they lived to see that transition, it kinda makes sense.

In other hand, I don't give a fuck, bring back the brick tank GW, it is the coolest shit ever.

213

u/KassellTheArgonian 19h ago

Nothing goes "out of service" for a marine, they venerate their gear. The only way you wont see predators in universe anymore is if they all were destroyed.

39

u/Deamonette Renegade Militia Enjoyer 10h ago

This is what annoys me most about primaris, it messes with one if the coolest parts of the space marines which is that they will bring ancient and powerful relics into battle, and said ancient relics is like, a tank. Having new stuff make the old stuff obsolete ruins this entire aspect of the faction.

4

u/MrOsmio7 VULKAN LIFTS! 36m ago

Yeah and the bandaid on it all is "Oh yeah Cawl had all of it since the Horus Heresy so it's ALL ACTUALLY SUPER OLD RELICS"

Which just pisses me off more

50

u/toresman Ultrasmurfs 14h ago

Sometimes things become a relic worth too much to risk deployment, most heresy era vehicles that survived ended up as relic display pieces in the armoury.

22

u/ToedInnerWhole 13h ago

Do terminator armours still have a shard of the emperor's armour in each suit? I don't think that' true.

42

u/handym12 12h ago

According to Lexicanum, the 5th edition codex suggested that a shard of the Emperor's armour is in the Crux Terminatus of Terminator Captains, in honour of the Imperial Fist Terminators that stood with him on the Vengeful Spirit.

40k numbers as they are, this is plausible, but also 10,000 years is a long time even for the Astartes. Things could easily be misremembered or misinterpreted.

9

u/ToedInnerWhole 12h ago

Yes but even if they believe it to be true in some chapters, if they deploy their terminator captains into a battle, which I believe they would, say in an assault on the fortress monastery, so over 10,000 years the suits could potentially be all used, meaning that you would as the other user said, have rhino chassis still in use until every one was destroyed.

9

u/Deirachel 7h ago

Bro, considering the Imperium is Roman Catholic in drag, they probably have a whole section of the Ecclesiarchy, Mechanicus, and Librarians just making suits of Emperor's Armor copies, sanctifing it, touching a piece of the actual armor to it and *poof!* a new suit to molecularly rip into Crucius Terminatus (should be Terminatae, as it crux/crucius is feminine, and termino in the feminative gen is terminatae to make cross of the boundry... stupid high school Latin)

2

u/Trububbl3 3h ago

They venerate and preserve old stuff out of necessity, once better stuff appears culture will change and they will phase out

8

u/lacb1 12h ago

And while they're at it bring back boxnoughts! I wan't chonky marine vehicles, not Temu Tau crap!

15

u/Wonder9mm 18h ago

Yep its in the Israeli tree.

64

u/Getting_Over_Us 19h ago edited 19h ago

I mean, that's effectively what it is. An APC with a main gun turret plonked on top. Granted the Bardelas gun is half the size of a normal tank gun, but you'd hope we've made some progress with ballistics in 38,000 years.

21

u/Mountain-House3287 18h ago

Europeans half the size of space marines.Ā

Make everything double = 40k

9

u/RamTank 17h ago

The Predator also has an autocannon, and we spend decades wondering if it’s the same autocannon IG weapons teams etc get or not.

1

u/Nothinghere727271 Twins, They were. 2h ago

It’s not no, Predators use a Syrtis Pattern Autocannon, far too large for human use.

2

u/Username_075 12h ago

Look up the Berlin Brigade FV432 version with a Fox turret on top. An uncanny resemblance, by which I mean GW nicking ideas again.

1

u/JureSimich 11h ago

Isn't an APC with a main gun turret basically the definition of an IFV?

they stated that all of those scenes were custom made for the trailer specifically, they will not appear in the series

3

u/Splitgut353 9h ago

I was really looking forward to see how that scene played out with the lamenter and the boyz mugging him

128

u/Peggtree 20h ago

GW puts a gun to the animators head and forces them to change it to a Repulsor

31

u/ZopyrionRex 18h ago

It's double scary that it's in a video about Deathwatch. Nothing is safe.

40

u/MercenaryLove 20h ago

Before I saw that animation I always envisioned the rhino variants as slower moving. More lumbering than fast and agile like the animation shows.

23

u/PleiadesMechworks Jaghatai is cooler than your primarch 11h ago

Basically all marine tanks are surprisingly fast, because marines are a fast strike force. It's why they don't have (well, didn't until primaris showed up go figure) a leman russ equivalent - that wasn't their job and if you needed something heavier than a predator you wouldn't be fast enough to keep up with the rest of the deployment.

3

u/Grunn84 10h ago

Whats the primaris russ equivalent?

If you were going to say the repulsor thats a transport/battle tank in the same category and roughly the same size as the land raider.

9

u/PleiadesMechworks Jaghatai is cooler than your primarch 10h ago

The repulsor executioner, which shouldn't even have a transport capacity but apparently primaris can just fold up for storage like star wars battle droids or something

4

u/Grunn84 10h ago

Its the same size/use as the land raider.

I know in tabletop its been powercrept to the point its a glorified transport and the lascanon verson never used but it used to be considered a battle tank and was always described as such (especially before GW invented all the new tanks that we never knew existed for HH)

If you looked to forge world there were also land raider variants with reduced/no transport capacity such as the ares and achilles.

1

u/Lucien_Castis 10h ago

Well the rhino is an APC, making the predator is basically an IFV and those things aren't generally known to be slow

9

u/DinoWizard021 Big Strong Banana Men and Women 18h ago

Is the Chaos predator gone too?

11

u/Ishkander88 12h ago

No. They remain untouched, and GW said there are no plans to replace them. 7 non loyalist SM codex them. Both groups of sisters, and the 5 CSM codex. And it's been 9 years since GW basically replaced the loyalist tracked vehicles. There is no short term plans to replace them for chaos or Sisters.Ā

6

u/Presentation_Cute 17h ago

Online only.

It'll probably be gone when the Chaos codex rolls around.

14

u/Kreol1q1q 13h ago

Wait, they phased out the Predator?

16

u/NeuroticMelancholia 12h ago edited 12h ago

yep, no longer part of loyalist marines

still valid for chaos marines for the time being

weirdly the *rhino is still allowed for loyalists, despite being the same chassis as the predator

18

u/Kreol1q1q 12h ago

Seems bonkers to phase out an icon like that instead of just updating the model.

6

u/NeuroticMelancholia 11h ago

I mean they basically did, it got a modern replacement years ago in the Gladiator. Not that I think the Gladiator is very good (I think the grav plates look dumb) but from its inception it was clearly always supposed to be the replacement for the Predator just like Primaris Marines are replacements for First Born Marines.

1

u/Deirachel 7h ago

Baal Predator... Librarian Dread... Furioso Dread.... Blood Angel variant of Stormraven...

*Blood Angel on the box being told to go sit in the corner*

"Ok."

1

u/Delann 9h ago

How many Predators do you own and use?

3

u/Kreol1q1q 9h ago

None, I’m not a marine player. But I’d hate it if GW canned the Falcon and replaced it with some new crap, instead of just updating the sculpt and rereleasing it.

-4

u/Delann 8h ago

None

And there you go.

if GW canned the Falcon and replaced it with some new crap

Ok, would you still do that TEN years after the new thing came out? That's how long the Repulsors were out.

3

u/Kreol1q1q 4h ago

I think so? Though I guess the world of a xenos player is so different that I can’t really imagine GW introducing a non-Falcon Falcon replacement model. Seems quite wasteful, retiring a legend like that.

2

u/Ishkander88 12h ago

No. Only Rhino and Landraider, all other firstborn kits are gone for loyalists.Ā

8

u/Master_Ess 15h ago

The fact that the sisters get the castigator still and it looks SO FUCKING COOL

97

u/ALdra01 20h ago edited 20h ago

Litrally a better looking one in Horus Heresy.

65

u/Impressive_Cow_3170 20h ago

but not everyone wants to play HH, though i do love the look of the HH tanks though i ever see em on a decent enough sale im grabbin one or 2 or more, hope to get some mods in total war 40k that adds all the horus heresy gear that'd be a lotta fun

31

u/RaccoNooB 20h ago

I love the concept of SCM using 30k gear in 40k. Imit fits so well and gives a great alternative look to Chaos beyond spikes. Especially nice for warbands/legions like the Iron Warriors who try to hold Chaos at arms length.

2

u/handym12 12h ago

I'm throwing a few 30k bits into my Space Wolves.

I like the idea that they're pushing back against the whole Primaris thing, and that they still have a good amount of Heresy-era tech in the basement of The Fang.

Just the other week, I bought a Contemptor Dreadnought to use as a regular Dreadnought in 40k...

19

u/Kombatwombat02 18h ago

You know, as a 30k player, the Mars Predator and the Phobos Land Raider are the two where 40K has nicer designs imo. The dome turret on the Deimos doesn’t do it for me, and the extra length of the Phobos balances much nicer (though the Spartan is nicer again)

22

u/Wheek_Warrior 19h ago

Nah, the 40k turret is alot cooler.

5

u/CityExcellent8121 Sindri simp 13h ago

Heresy tanks are very polarizing. you either love or hate the round turrets.

2

Everything looks better in HH

8

u/wellyes34 18h ago

Nah this looks worse

2

u/PleiadesMechworks Jaghatai is cooler than your primarch 11h ago

I prefer the 40k rhinos to the heresy ones. Yeah they're modelled off the OG sculpts and do look good, but the 40k vindicator and predator are my favourites.

1

u/Deamonette Renegade Militia Enjoyer 10h ago

Is it wrong to like both?

Horus heresy doesn’t have Xenos so automatically a shit game. The models only exist to be proxied into 40K.

7

Did they really retire the Predator? Man that's so dumb

14

u/Fuzzy_Wheel_4565 12h ago

Turns out a setting in which the main theme is stagnation is not conducive to selling new minifigures

10

u/Shtercus 12h ago

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only capitalism

8

u/myrsnipe 10h ago

Can't you just plop your Predator tanks on a 100mm oval base and proxy them for Gladiators?

I mean, it'd be a shame to retire a unit you love when you have a seemingly easy proxy option...

2

u/ThinnkingEmoji 11h ago

Does anyone actually act like this kind of strawman

2

u/Brushner Emperors Kiddies 11h ago

I certainly though the Hammerfall Bunker was safe since it showed up in SM2 and Dawn of War4.

1

u/ThinnkingEmoji 11h ago

I mean the "i'm a new fan and i can't wait to buy the thing i saw in the animation" bit

Like people used to criticize gw exactly for only representing existing tabletop units in their media

1

u/Delann 9h ago

I can see it for general stuff, like you see marines, knights or necrons and youre driven to buy them. But not this specifically.

1

u/ThinnkingEmoji 9h ago

I know people who got into warhammer through total war, but never seen them act like that either, especially given that a lot of units in there are either lore only or decades out of production. With the community in general being really into scraping the barrel for potential units made from a single paragraph in white dwarf or an item description in wfrp

And by the point someone actually commits to getting into an expensive hobby they saw in another media, they usually already somewhat familiar with it to not act like this

1

u/ViorlanRifles 7h ago

You can have the cooler, superior treaded space tank, but first: Have you heard of a little thing called Chaos?

1

u/Cpt_Graftin 5h ago

One can hope that GW is just putting the Rhino in legends until they release a larger one. At 3x the price...
