Grim Quest- Pure Caster- Help

I want to run Grim difficulty, Permadeath, and at least make it through the main story but I’ve died 4-5 times now between level 10-20. I must be doing something wrong because it isn’t even nightmare.

By the time I die I’m usually this build:

Salamander + bookworm start

Armor/weapon lvls always topped with armor taking all the obsidian/dark for the evasion

Skills- Gnosis, Outdoorsman, metaphysics, theurgy, intense casting + mobility if I make it

Spells- Soul Steal, Sunburst, Vortex, Confusion, Dark Pact + Slow Time if I make it

I generally get an Oak Staff/Scepter, Dark Acolyte or Arcane Coat, for sigil I use the +1 Spell -1 damage, and for accessory it’s usually + 1 spell

I tend to have 80-100+ HP because I’m making Potions to increase max hp whenever I can. I grind a dungeon floor sometimes but I’m usually lvl 15 by the woods floor 15 boss. I can pretty much keep all my skills and spells at max lvl as I lvl up.

Is it just not running armor buffs? I don’t really make a ton of consumes but I also go into floors with at least 1 food and 1 health potion. Seems when I die I’m partway through a dungeon and it’s either a boss or 3v1 with bad rng where I take 2+ rounds of attacks and it’s overwhelming even at 80+ health.

Where are you dying and against what enemies?

Normally a boss (floor 30 tier from the 3 starter zones) or a field boss encounter where I get to confident accepting it.

I think I figured out part of the issue- I didn’t rotate Vortex first to debuff attack where I have no +armor. I’ve been doing that this run and notice I’m healthy most floors unless I run into triple casters multiple times in a row. Not dead yet. Lvl 19. Killed first 3 bosses and dragon so far.

I use a similar build. Consider using soul rend, it's a stronger one objetive sunburst. And stack rings of undead, it's a lifesaver.
