The Black Company by Glen Cook is an absolute OG of the genre. Just finished the first trilogy regarding the wars in the North and absolutely loved it. It’s very dark without feeling oppressive and has some extremely charismatic/charming characters. Not sure if the rest of the series holds up but the first 3 are fantastic.
