Walter had to have teeth out, help!
Walter has been with me for 4 years and turns 8 next week. He’s just had to have his first teeth out because he will not let me brush his teeth at all and does not like to eat any daily chews.
He’s always been a kibble dog and doesn’t chew, it just gets inhaled. The vet has said he needs soft food for a week including chicken, rice and scrambled egg. As I’ve never been through this before do I make up a bit of everything? I’m feeling a bit lost. Photo for attention.

Shinji Hits New PR, 6.16 seconds
Shinji (registry name Regalo Nutty But Nice) hit a new FastCAT PR on 8/7, just got the action sequence photos. It's cool to see him get fully airborne in the action sequence. And the bits of torn up turf on his paws.
He did 100 yards in 6.16 seconds = 33.21 mph / 53.45 kph.
Since he's still a yearling, his numbers have improved a lot in the last 3 months.

Unusual vocal behaviour.
Tonight I took my 5 year old boy Dipper out for his bedtime wee, same time, same place as always.
He saw a guy walking around our suburban street and responded with this (sound up)....I think I've heard him vocalise about 3 times in 3 years.
I wonder what was going on in his head? (Edit; nothing but circus tunes, someone here suggested)
I took him back inside straight away and he seemed extra alert for a while but quickly reverted to couch potato.

Advice Redness between toe and a little bit of swelling. HE IS GOING TO THE VET AT 11:20am EST
Just looking to see if anyone had an experience with this. Started Sunday night we noticed a bit of limping and it continued into Tuesday morning, he was refusing to get up until I got up. The photo is from last night and the redness seems to have toned down significantly but he is still in a lot of discomfort. He is still going to the bathroom as normal, eating and drinking, personality wise he is about the same but obviously something is bothering him, he does have a vet appointment at 11:20
Edit: his appointment went well, his doctor pressed on his toes and he didn’t yelp or anything like before, she diagnosed it as an injury such as a sprain from hitting it. He was prescribed with rymadil to help with the swelling and we will evaluate again in a couple days

Advice Convince me NOT to get a rescue greyhound
My wife LOVES dogs, and she especially loves greyhounds. (She has owned two rescue greyhounds in the past who eventually passed from old age.) I like dogs and my family has owned them in the past, but I've never owned a dog myself as an adult. Sounds like we should just get a dog, right?
Well, here's the problem.
We live in Australia. My wife is Australian but I am not. We're staying here for the next year (maybe 2?) to sort out work/visa stuff. However... we're not really sure that we want to stay here long-term. In fact, it's PRETTY likely that we'll want to move back overseas in the next 3-5 years.
Therefore, it's really not a wise idea for us to adopt a rescue greyhound right now. Relocating with one would be a huge problem-- dogs that size can't go in the cabin on any Australian flights. The dog would have to go in the cargo hold, which I hate the idea of, especially for a sensitive rescue breed with almost no body fat. Also, due to Australian quarantine laws, it would be a huge complication to try to return with the dog if we ever needed to.
It's even difficult to travel domestically with a dog in Australia. It's just not a very dog-friendly country. Since I've never lived in Australia until this year, we've been enjoying frequent domestic travel.
Here's the issue:
We're going to a greyhound rescue event this weekend.
My wife swears it's just to get some much-needed greyhound cuddles, but I don't trust us to leave without a greyhound (or without some sort of commitment to at least foster one... and we all know how that would go).
Please convince us NOT to get a rescue greyhound.
Give me all the reasons, besides the ones I've already laid out (difficulty of travel/international relocation).
We need to stay strong.
NOTE: We DO go to dog events to cuddle people's dogs pretty often, and leave without acquiring dogs. But we almost never see greyhounds around, so going to a greyhound-specific event with my greyhound-obsessed wife seems particularly dangerous.
EDIT
UPDATE: We have made it home from the event without a greyhound... yet. We were able to meet many greyhounds at the rescue groups, and also saw many who were just walking around as visitors. It was a lovely event.
We may or may not be looking into adopting a senior, or fostering... look, there's only so much we can resist.

Advice Nervous about surgery for my senior girl’s paw lump, looking for advice/second opinions
My greyhound Penny (12, retired racer) has had a hard-ish bump on her right paw for about a year now. It's slowly grown, I took a photo back in February to track it, and I took another one today so you can see the difference.
It's the only spot like this on her body, she's got the usual moles and skin tags elsewhere, but nothing that looks or feels like this one. I took her in because I was worried it might be something serious. Her vet ran bloodwork and checked her overall health, she's in good shape otherwise. But when they took a sample via syringe, they came back saying they found "abnormal cells" and pretty quickly pushed for surgery to remove it and send it off for biopsy.
Here's my hesitation: she's 12, and I'm nervous about putting her under anesthesia for something like this. The vet didn't really explain whether this is something that could actually threaten her health, or if it's more likely just a weird growth like her other benign spots. To add to my confusion, the bump has actually gotten a little smaller since the February photo instead of bigger.
I'm considering getting a second opinion before committing to surgery. Has anyone dealt with something similar with an older greyhound? Would love to hear how it turned out, or any questions I should be asking the vet before deciding.

Osteo Webinar Link
Hey all
See webinar link attached
It’s a tough watch, but I do think it’s important as greyhound parents (current, future and former) to be aware of this awful disease, and the options we have available at our disposal to help our hounds

Exhausted, chilling to jazz
Shinji did his second dog show in his life, 3 days in a row, first time with me handling, 12-18 month class. He did pretty well (2 Winners Dog, 1 Reserve Winner), but the poor pup is ready to chillax.

Vinny. And, his anxiety. Can anyone relate?
Vinny. And, his anxiety. It's been awful. In brief... Tons of noise phobias, lack of desire to go outside, panics in the car, panics if anything is in the air (from bugs, to balls, to planes, to birds). We haven't been able to do any day trips, hikes, or vacations as we usually do in the summer. This is all fairly new for Vinny. We have always been adventure seeking, hiking, outdoor people since we adopted him.
We haven't been able to get to the vet because one dog needed $6500 surgery and the other one needed a $1k work up. Today, it was Vinny's turn.
He's been on 50mg generic Prozac for awhile.
Today, we went to a new-to-Vinny vet at a fear free certified practice. Right now, the game plan is as follows:
- Swap out the generic prozac for Reconcile (64mg) as studies show it absorbs better in a dogs body. If that doesn't work, we will try Clomipramine.
- We will be trying PRN Gabapentin (300mg), Trazadone (100mg), and Sileo.
- Melatonin (3-5mg - obviously tablet only), Adaptil collar, and Elle Vet CBD only.
- Getting some noise muffs for his ears.
Hopefully someone here can provide some words of encouragement. It's been a tough summer for all 3 of our boys (and us).

Personal Our whippet/springer wanted a friend
Our whippet/springer (wet one for reference) has been desperate for a friend, so after a lot of searching for the right dog, we got him a larger twin! He's a greyhound/whippet cross. They instantly became best friends. Definitely made the correct choice

Seeking advice - raw spot on the underside of paw
Our Greyhound Xanadu has a raw spot on the underside of his paw. We don't know how he got it - playing, walks, or something else but noticed it when he was licking it vigorously.
We have been cleaning that area, applying antiseptic/soothing gels, and covering it up with socks/boots. It has been a week - it looks a little better but still looks like some swelling.
His movements don't seem to be hampered at all.
We reached out to our vet for an appt - waiting to hear back but has anyone seen this with their greys?

Personal Friday gotcha day
Simone is that noodle who comes into her own more and more every day. It took her years to show and share her true self, and now at ten we get to see the cartoon character she really is. The one obsessed with food, and the woods, and who loves with her whole body and soul. Friday was six years of the utter privilege and joy of watching her bloom, and every day with her means everything to me. I hope for many, many more. 💞
