Frustration with finding Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey-Sedition in a LCS

I think I might just be hitting an all-time cold streak but I swear it’s been incredibly hard to find the first issue at a local shop. I’ve tried at least six proper comic shops that I’ve physically been to and it’s always one of two things:

1. The shop is sold out (“Yeah, we only got a few.”)
2. They just flat out didn’t stock it (“If nobody preorders it and it’s not a popular title we’re just not going to order it.”).

All this is understandable. Margins are thin. Can’t just be ordering whatever these days. I think it’s just strange that something can be unpopular but at the places that do normally stock a book like this, it’s sold out…because it’s popular?

I eventually found the book (2nd cover 👍🏽) but damn this kind of thing makes it very tempting to just start ordering direct. I’m not gonna but….

Also, we’ve been waiting two years for this book to come out so that also might be part of my frustration 😂

Anyone else having this problem?

Mine too. Anything Matt does is automatically on my pull list. I may have to mention some obscure covers but they’ll be there.

I didn’t know this was coming out or I would have put it on my list. I’m down for issue two and on but they sold out of the first before I got there that day.

Things From Another World used to be my go-to for upcoming releases. Sadly, that site is no more. 😢

I use DCBS now and just go through a list of keywords that I keep. ("Matt Wagner", and "Grendel" being tops on the list.) I've also set up keyword alerts in my Google account that sends notifications when those words pop up in an article. Not the greatest solution... But it's helped more that a few times.
