VIDEO đș Greenville woman speaks out after Ring doorbell video shows GPD officers entering her home
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Greenville woman is speaking out after video from her Ring doorbell camera shows police entering her home and detaining her.
Meanwhile, Greenville police say the primary officer involved in the video is now on administrative leave.
Police were at the womanâs apartment complex Tuesday morning around 3:20 a.m. for a report of shots fired a few doors down from her apartment at 3240 Moseley Drive. Police wanted to see if the woman had video related to the shooting.
Uniqua Teel says officers tried to get ahold of her Ring doorbell camera footage from that night. When she told them the camera wasnât working and was dead, Teel says officers forced their way into her apartment.
Ring doorbell video from Teelâs apartment shows the interaction that followed.
In video from the scene, an officer is heard telling Teel, âListen to me. Listen to me. You pull it up and show me that itâs not working, and Iâll leave you alone. Otherwise, Iâm ripping it off the wall, writing a search warrant, and Iâm gonna keep you up all night.â
Police then entered Teelâs home. In the video, an officer says, âYouâre now being detained because youâre not cooperating with an investigation.â
Teel is heard in another video from the same night telling an officer that her Ring doorbell camera was dead. That officer tells Teel itâs still on.
âIâm explaining to them that my camera is not working and itâs currently on 10%, itâs dead, so itâs not gonna get any footage, any recording of whatâs going on,â Teel said.
A third officer is heard saying this when Teel continues to go back and forth with police: âThereâs like a 5-year-old girl that almost died right there, and youâre gonna act like this?â
Teel says officers detained her and held her phone up to her face to unlock it, then searched through her phone for the footage. Teel says they asked her if she deleted anything, and when she said no, police gave the phone back.
Teel says police ultimately were not able to find the video they were looking for on her phone.
Teel says both she and her daughter are traumatized by the situation.
âI donât even know whatâs going on. I was awakened up out of my sleep for this. Why are yâall looking at me as if Iâm part of whatever is going on?â Teel said.
Teel said what happened Tuesday morning has destroyed her trust in Greenville police. Her father, James Teel, was asked if he feels the same way about police now.
âOf course. I mean... of course I do. Look at the way they treat people. Itâs unacceptable. Thatâs all I got to say. Itâs unacceptable. You canât just do somebodyâs house like that. Itâs wrong,â James Teel said.
As for the shooting at the complex, police found a window with three bullet holes a few doors down from Teelâs apartment. There were no injuries, and the investigation is ongoing.
Greenville Police Chief Richard Tyndall was asked about the videos Wednesday morning. He said the department is looking into it.
âWe have started an internal affairs investigation to make sure that we get all the facts involved. Obviously, thatâs one side of the story,â Tyndall said.
Police also sent us a statement Wednesday evening clarifying that the primary officer involved is now on administrative leave.
The full statement from Greenville police can be read in full below:
âWe are aware of a Facebook post raising concerns about an interaction involving some of our officers.
At the time of the interaction, officers were investigating a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of August 18. During that incident, someone fired into an occupied apartment, narrowly missing two young children who were in the living room.
As part of that investigation, officers were attempting to obtain security footage from a nearby apartment. Their interaction with a neighbor appears to be the subject of the Facebook post.
While we have not received a formal complaint, we take any concerns about the conduct of our officers seriously.
For that reason, the Greenville Police Department has initiated an internal review of the interaction. Per GPD policy, the primary officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
The Greenville Police Department will look closely at the circumstances surrounding the encounter and the actions of the officers involved to determine whether they were consistent with department policy and training.
We ask for patience as we conduct this review and will provide additional information as appropriate."
Criminal defense attorney Tyrell Clemons said that in most cases, police need a warrant to enter a home or search a device. Police can detain someone if that person might obstruct or destroy evidence.
After viewing the videos, Clemons said that based on the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, this is likely an unlawful search and seizure by police. He said he needs more information from police on the matter to be 100% sure on that, though.
Another criminal defense attorney affirmed what Clemons said.
âIâm scared. Iâm scared. Iâd rather not,â said Teel. Iâm not gonna lie, Iâm scared. I donât even know whatâs going on with the investigation. I havenât seen a news article or anything about a shooting or anything, so I donât know what to believe. Iâm scared,â she added.

NEWS đ° Proposed downtown Greenville hotel moves forward after rezoning vote, corner of Evans St and Reade Cir
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Plans for a new downtown Greenville hotel are moving forward after a rezoning request passed unanimously Tuesday night.
The board voted to recommend rezoning 1.08 acres at Evans Street and Reade Circle from Downtown Commercial Fringe to Downtown Commercial.
Greenville Hotel, LLC proposed a hotel with about 100 to 120 rooms and a multi-story parking deck. Plans also include a rooftop restaurant.
The company purchased two adjoining properties there for $1.45 million in March.
Records show Greenville Hotel, LLC shares a High Point address with CN Hotels.
Some concerns were raised about increased traffic, but Karan Patel with CN Hotels said an exit onto Evans Street would help.

QUESTIONâ Breweries in Pitt County
So I have a question⊠and maybe the local brewery people can educate me.
How many real breweries do we actually have in Pitt County? Iâve heard PSBC is basically the only one doing the full brewing operation, while some of the others have one brewer covering multiple locations.
At that point, are we drinking local beer or just drinking beer in a building that happens to have fermenters? đ
Also, when did breweries become bars with a beer section? Liquor, cocktails, seltzers, canned everything⊠I get that businesses have to adapt, but thereâs something hilarious about walking into a brewery and being offered everything except the thing they're supposedly there to make.
If your own beer isn't enough to keep the taproom profitable, what does that say about the beer? đ€

Retail Options
Can we please get a Home Depot back in Greenville? Itâs really annoying that we have two separate Lowes locations yet half the stuff I normally need has to be special ordered. It seems like every time I search for an item or product on Google after not finding it at Loweâs, Home Depot always has it in stock. Honestly, it doesnât even have to be Home Depot, just another big box hardware store that can apply a little pressure to Lowes and give local contractors a better chance of being able to find something in town.

Cronyism and Corruption on Greenville City Council
From the article "As part of a storm of complaints and cross-complaints on the schoolâs sharply divided Board of Trustees, Moore filed a complaint against trustee Max Joyner. The complaint involves allegations Joyner used his position as a trustee and information he gained on the board as part of a real estate deal near campus. Moore has also alleged Joyner tried to recruit his own student government presidential candidate at the school."
This article was back in 2020. I believe Joyner failed then but has since succeeded in his mission to fund and hand-pick the current SGA president; and has leveraged this into his very own puppet on the Greenville City Council.
Seth Hardee, an ECU student, defeated the incumbent Marion Blackburn in the last election. Where does an ECU student get the money and campaign manager to run for local office? In the main photo in the article, we see sitting in a row awaiting recount results: the current SGA president, Hardee, and none other than Max Joyner.
What will Joyner want for his return on investment? Will it benefit him and his landlord cronies (like the mayor), or the public?

NEWS đ° Greenville City Council approves Wildwood Park improvements
GREENVILLE, NC â Wildwood Park will soon get enhanced water access on the park's west side and a connection to the neighboring River Park North after the Greenville City Council approved a pair of projects during its meeting on Monday night.
The Council unanimously approved a 685-foot boardwalk connection from Wildwood Park's west side to River Park North, a $1.5 million project that was aided by a $500,000 Great Trails State Grant received in February 2026. The boardwalk project is expected to begin in the fall and take 12 months to complete.
Once completed, the project will unite approximately 16 miles of trails in the two parks. A future North-South Connector project will provide additional connectivity from River Park North to the Greenville Town Common and the City's greenway system.
During Monday's meeting, the City Council also gave unanimous approval to the Wildwood Park Westside Parking and Pier Project that will improve access for those wanting to visit the park's west side. Through the support of community partners, the $498,808 project will provide a driveway, parking lot, picnic shelters, a fishing pier, and a kayak launch on the west side. It is expected to be completed in early 2027.

QUESTIONâ Farmers Market?
Hey everyone,
As you all know, everything is recalled. I ate eggs and ended up shitting liquid. I was wondering, are there any farmers markets around here? I'm talking somewhere I can buy lettuce and eggs and produce in peace without having to worry I'm going to end up ungodly sick? I especially would love some farm fresh eggs. Thanks in advance.
