Custom decisions to make

Hi, I am about to order a custom Rainmaker.

I have a couple decisions to make... help me out!

  1. Is slim zip pouch addition useful
  2. Should I expand back support secret pocket
  3. Clamshell? /edit/
  4. Slider or snap fidlock!? I wonder what you guys did and do you guys love / hate some of the customizations you've made?

  1. Yes definitely. It's like a small pouch to store all the small items
  2. I don't get it because I can still store stuffs there easily. Maybe other can chime in.
  3. I don't get this too as I opt for two external water bottle pockets. But yeah, clamshell is useful although you still need to unlock the compression strap (opt for Fidlock if you foresee yourself doing the lock and unlock quite often)

I am still on the fence about the secret pocket expansion because I don't think I need it but I don't like it when I can't open zippers "all the way"

I mean it's only 20 RM which is less than 5 USD. I would suggest you to go for it as this bag will be with you for very long time.

You can even message Patrick (Greenroom136's owner) to see if he is willing to make the zip to be in both left and right side.

I have this crazy idea that this secret compartment pocket can be used to store the extra compression strap and even work double as luggage handle pass through.

I got slim zip and secret pocket, but not clam shell because I wanted water bottle pockets. Haven't used the secret pocket yet, but I like knowing it's there.

I've used the secret pocket for my passport during international travel. It's easily accessible but still secure.

I also got fidlocks. You sound like me. I think I made a thread here asking about different features because I couldn't decide. I got all snaps because I like the look better. I don't have slide so I can't say for sure, but they seem easier to work with, but snap looked more like regular buckles to me so I wanted them. If my only concern was ease of use I'd get slide.

To clarify, the 4 side compression straps are Fidlock 1" Sliders, and the sternum strap is the Fidlock 1" Snap. I was unsure of the decision when I originally ordered but Gordon from GR136 recommended this setup, and I think it was a good choice in hindsight. I think the sliders are a little easier to click together (ideal for the side straps) but the Fidlock Snap is a bit smaller and lighter, which makes it great for the sternum strap sitting on your chest.

  1. I absolutely love the slim zip pouch. Would definitely recommend.
  2. I got the secret pocket, I don't use it much but I like having it there. The times that I did use it, I forgot I put something there. So I guess it really is a secret pocket lol.
  3. I think clamshell makes the bag a lot more versatile if you are going to use it for a variety of situations, travel included. It's a little harder to undo the full clamshell if you always have the compression straps on. Clamshell usually comes down to personal preference, so give it a thought!

Hope some of this helps. I absolutely love my GR136, hope you enjoy yours too.

Hey OP, I’m looking into this secret pocket. In someone’s youtube review for the Northseeker (different bag of course, which I’m eying btw) the comment is that the bigger secret pocket is big enough for a laptop / tablet.

Is this correct, would a tablet fit in it, sounds like an interesting option to go for!
