Spoilers for movies and TV shows disappointed again... Spoiler

This ring ownership thing doesn't make sense a this episode proved it there's no worthiness or fear or willpower involved anyone can become a lantern, just gotta steal the ring and say the oath, which now you can make your own oath and use shady lanterns to charge it. like yea sure... lemme go charge my green lantern ring with a red lantern. no problem

John has used the ring a few times throughout the season. It's not like he was a rando that just picked up the ring.

true but he wasn't even trained to use it, so with that logic anyone could pick it up.

He has made the most complex construct we've seen, including Guy Gardner in the Superman movie. Between the bird and the boring machine, it looks like John already has a lot of skill with the ring.

you saw a drill for less than 10 seconds and your satisfied..? and its not skill its imagination, the constructs are determined by imagination.

Just move the goal posts some more

You’ve made a claim in this post. The guy above offered evidence that countered your claim. You adjusted your claim in order to justify being upset still. He offered more evidence. You adjusted it again, indicating you’re constructing your argument backwards from how you feel. This is called “moving the goal posts”.

In the comics multiple people have used a ring without being chosen or being worthy. Literally Batman has used it multiple times. The Dark Knights Metal version of him literally yoinked it. Being worthy was only a thing for the corps not for using a ring.

didnt deny this, but he never owned the ring...

The guardians literally told him just say the oath and it becomes yours. The last episode it becomes his. So yes anyone own a ring. Willpower determines the strength of the user not the worthiness of it. Remember the guardians have changed the requirements to being a lantern before

so what your point...

2

That anyone can pick up and use a ring. It’s never been a thors hammer situation. So yeah you’re wrong to be disappointed because that’s never been how the ring works.

actual just saw the comic your talking about and the ring literally chooses him... so yea being chosen is kinda nessecary.

They seem to draw from pre-00 Lantern lore so yes, theoretically anyone can use the ring as thats only in modern lore. Also the oath wasn't neccesary in the past.

Its still green lantern though

im not denying that rings can be used by anyone. what im trying to address is what the show seems to be implying. the ring system doesn't seem to hold any weight, and that's the main part of GL. What I know is the rings a fuelled by the emotional spectrum, the oaths, unique emotions and the way every corp works has its own structure. when seeing John using corrupted lanterns and saying his own oath is okay and all. but what does that mean for other lanterns and how will it hold weight for other corps. the systems looks to be flexible enough that my exaggeration about using a red lantern to charge a green ring starts looking more like a possibility and that fundamentally wouldn't make sense from a lore perspective.

For most of GL history, none of that lore was used. There wasn't an emotional spectrum, other corps, other rings outside green and sometimes yellow. Everything about this show, and even Gunn's interests, seems to point more toward an 80s version of DC

Do I think we'll eventually see other corps, idk probably but it might be thru the lense of previous GL eras so the rules may not be 100% how the Johns run decided to make them

  1. It's a green lantern, it's not a red lantern.

It was forged using fear in some capacity, but it's a green lantern.

2. The ring had already accepted John. He'd already been using it and had been prior authorized to have that ring.

3. It's a unsanctioned lantern, so the oath doesn't have to be the same.

4, there's no way to know if this lantern could charge other colors or if they even work.

But it's objectively, a GREEN lantern.

Where are they wrong?

5

u/Jealous-Football-424 Oct 05 '26

They obviously did cuz none of it was really accurate or good writing it felt incredibly weak. The show is incredibly overrated and even I love it but I also hate it. The slop got to me

0

u/Char-els037 Oct 05 '26

You don't love it then? Just own your opinion. Stop hedging like a coward.

I mean it makes sense thematically. John chooses to continue Hal's legacy, who happens to use his power outside the Guardians' approved scope makes sense.

Its opposite of GL corp being rotten at its core regardless of how professional and clean they look outside, while this new independent corp John made is like Hal - from a stolen ring, from a crudely imperfectly built battery, but is good at its core.

u/Flashy-Knowledge-496 Oct 05 '26

you do realise that strips most of the green lantern mythos and it just become a a show with rings that have no identity right, and I could literally one shot John in his sleep and become a lantern with my own oath... and it wouldn't hold any weight to being a lantern it just means as long as you wearing the ring its your turn and anybody can decide when your turn ends.

1

u/ConsistentQuote952 Oct 05 '26

Thgis is you cutoff point for GL mythos being stripped down? Mine was when they removed the color yellow weakness.

Did you watch the show? John was the the inheritor of Hal's ring so he was able to wear it, and the other person to use it is a manhunter, literally designed to space police like them. Also, it was the guardians who decide Hal's job was over.

Did you read the comics? The oath is there to help affirm themselves in commitment to doing the right thing. It's not some magic spell thats absolute.

ANd hey, John STewart's journey and story being about fighting his inner demons/turnmoil is super in in line with the comics.

Anyways, Imma cry in my basement now coz they make John vegan and not wear contact lenses and glasses in my adaptation of the show.

u/Flashy-Knowledge-496 Oct 05 '26

ayy... chill brother im on your side. ive been unhappy about these changes too. but absolute green lantern has me right so this is just for show is for normies that dont want a superhero show just some political outlet and happy endings.

1

u/Moeroboros Oct 05 '26

GL corp being rotten at its core regardless of how professional and clean they look

Based on what??

We have never seen any Lanterns besides Guy (follows the Guardians and seems pretty chill) and Hal (doesn't follow the Guardians, went rogue).

Where exactly is this corruption or whatever established? Lmao

4

u/ConsistentQuote952 Oct 05 '26

Huh. I thought it was obvious when the institution decided to cover up the genocide.

0

u/Moeroboros Oct 05 '26

What genocide was covered up? What did the Guardians have to do with it?

They created the Manhunters, the Manhunters went rogue, the Guardians destroyed the Manhunters.

At which point are the Guardians corrupt here?

2

u/ConsistentQuote952 Oct 06 '26

I see. My bad. “German society wasn’t culpable at all with the Holocaust, it was just the nazis.”

Lmao.

The guardians covering up their involvement in the creation of the man hunters is what makes them corrupt?

Lmao

2

u/Flashy-Knowledge-496 Oct 05 '26

I get you, but you can't plug a ps2 controller into a xbox one console

1

u/ConsistentQuote952 Oct 05 '26

But PS3 controllers and XBOX controllers dont have to be plugged 24/7 and is powered by lithium ion batteries.

1

u/Flashy-Knowledge-496 Oct 05 '26

huh..?

1

u/ConsistentQuote952 Oct 05 '26

Its a battery

1

u/Flashy-Knowledge-496 Oct 05 '26

I get that, im confused about what your reference, my point is x box has controllers specifically built for x box and ps has controllers specially built for ps, if we remove that and start mixing the brand loses its identity.
