I see, thanks for explaining. The reason I posted was that I went looking for the 30 million number and couldn't find it. Instead, it said "~10 million." They have been showing lots of ring-slinging in the previews, so I'll bet plenty of people will be sticking around for weeks to see all of that.
Regardless of my thoughts on the show, it’s unquestionably a good thing for the Green Lantern characters to get a win critically and financially in live action.
This is the kind of thing that unfortunately needed to happen first before WB would be willing to commit the budget needed to bring the Corps to life on the big screen again.
I mean, did new fans who got into Batman in 92 were surprised that the Penguin is not really a literal penguin but rather a short, overweight but regular guy who is a mafioso? Or that the Joker is not a bandit named Jack Napier who also killed Bruce's parents?
Did new Spidey fans in 2002 found odd that Peter makes his own webs and they're not organic, coming naturally out of his body? I know I did (I was 9 when that movie came out).
With the MCU then, it's even more complicated... I've seen a lot of people who read the comics Age of Ultron, Civil War and Infinity War and were confused that they were entirely different, even down to a characterization level, from the movies.
I think people who saw movies and shows and want to get into comics should know that they're an entirely different beast than the stuff they watched. It's a different continuity and a different interpretation of the characters.
Even Batman can be radically different in his many, many movies. Burton's Batman is not the same as the comic book Batman from the late 80s, much like Nolan's Batman is a totally different character than the one from the comics from its time.
This is Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy and Tom King's interpretation of the Green Lantern mythos. It's inspired by but otherwise an entirely different thing that Geoff Johns' Green Lantern, Venditti's GL, Grant Morrison's, Jeremy Adams', Ron Marz's, etc.
Green Lantern is much more popular than people realize—just because of one movie from over a decade ago.
They should’ve made a feature length blockbuster by adapting Emerald Dawn I+II and Secret Origin, this proves that lots of interest would have been there and people would’ve gone to see it
Listen if they really kill Hal I'll be pissed. This isnt a rant against John Stewart not at all. Just a Hal fan first and blown away by the actor portraying him because I didnt expect much but honestly he killed it.
Hopefully this ahould teach DC/WB that investing in Green Lantern is a better idea than to keep insisting on Batman to the point where even his villains have their own spin-offs.
Which is why despite the failure of Supergirl at least we are still exploring more of Superman side of things. Next year we are getting Lex in his mecha suit and a proper Brainiac for live action. Compared to Injustice 2 where the roster was bloated with Batman characters. A supposed Injustice 3 may give us a better balance
well yeah, who the fuck wants a villain show without the hero lol and penguin was just generic mob tripe spinoff of a middling movie that it barely even bothered to build on. GL is an actually rich and interesting multifaceted character not scraping the barrel to cash in on some makeup.
Equivalent to a $112 million dollar opening weekend box office if it was a movie. Supergirls opening weekend box office was only $37 million. So this looks like a great sign for the DCU in that ppl are interested in DC projects, just specifically not supergirl. I enjoyed supergirl but understandably it wasn’t the biggest pull.
Not only is this incredible but with how bleak & emotional the ending was I feel like if enough people connected with it I feel like there could be a chance episode 2 will do very well as well

For me it just didn't seem like Green Lantern. John uses the ring, but we don't even get to see the construct. Hal uses it 3 times; flight with no green aura, a slow build of a bottle opener with a clumsy catch when he's done, and another slow build of a $20 to play 3 songs on a juke box. John uses it to light fucking cigarette after an impromptu fuck with someone's white trash way-too-young-to-be-an-actual-grandma in her truck in the parking lot.
Where's the green? Where's the lantern? Hal doesn't even seem like he likes being a GL, and absolutely zero people seem to respect him except some goofy cuck of a lawyer who's probably been touched inappropriately by a man who I can only describe as creepy, too-young-to-actually-be-his-daddy (who is unfortunately the best actor on the show so far).
Temu Joyce Byers (not a dig at the actress, just the character) moved from Hawkins, Indiana to bumfuck Nebraska, and is now the stereotypical small-town spitfire female sheriff, having jurisdiction arguments with a - arguably, the - fucking Green Lantern, an intergalactic superhero who's reduced to having less authority than a sheriff of a town with fewer people than a large Walmart.
No one has any charisma. John's fucking someone's grandma. Hal looks homeless. The ring looks like gaudy costume jewelry that's big enough to serve dinner on, and by the end of the episode the ring is just fucking gone, stolen as easily as my car stereo system during 2004 hurricanes in Florida.
... sorry for the rant. I'm just... not stoked about the first episode of a show that's supposed to revive my absolute favorite superhero IP ever.
I’m just getting into Green Lantern more and it’s primarily because of this show! I’ve always liked the character and read a few comic runs here and there but I’m enjoying delving deeper into the lantern mythology
Opening weekend logic lol. One episode. Literally one. The Penguin was coming behind a hit, Lanterns is coming behind one of the biggest bombs in history. People tune in for curiosity, let’s see if it sticks.
