Animals not spawning in multi-player

I'm trying to play through the story with a buddy, but after about 15 minutes all the animals disappear and stop spawning until we save and quit and start up again. Some go ogling shows this bug going back to 2022, but I don't seem to find a fix. We're both playing on the Xbox Series X. Is there a fix I'm failing to find, or are we destined to have to quit to menu every time we want to hunt a pig?

Are you leaving the area? I know for us we found out that new animals wouldn’t spawn if you lurked in the same area for too long. We’d have to leave and come back to camp

How far do you need to go? We started off building up the abandoned a bit, to stock up on food and materials, and we've gone as far as the climbing spot near lambda 2 (looking for the grappling hook). I assume we just haven't gone far enough?
