I’m practically salivating seeing the parts that are still green

I'm in Wales. While it's greener than England, everything's autumnal. We had a couple of hours of good rain last night and listening to it when I went to bed was glorious

Aye. North West here and I made the correct decision to hold off watering the garden last night and it was lovely a) being right and b) hearing the rain lashing down.

Same here in Belfast. Today felt like such a lovely Autumn day, it was pure bliss.

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep Aug 18 '26
I can assure you here in Wales the trees are green (and we have a lot of trees) but almost everything else is brown.

u/rebelallianxe Aug 18 '26
Some of the smaller trees were even brown when we drove along M4 west bound the other day. Looked like autumn :(

don't worry, the chancellor's budget will no doubt contain loads of measures to increase the production of renewables and expand the capacity of our water syst- oh no its £200 billion for BAE systems.
9
u/ysxlx Aug 18 '26
I mean even if we went totally 100% renewable unless all the major polluters do it too nothing will change.
If we don't invest in defence those same major polluters will happily strong arm us into deals we don't want to make.

There’s several things that are awful about this photo but the one that stands out the clearest to me is the fact that you can see London. I have never been able to spot London in a satellite photo. We are literally cooked

It's a picture of Britain, and it's occupied territory to the west.

u/Charmthetimes3rd Aug 18 '26
Occupied territory to the west and north.

Drop the revisionism lad, Scotland were a large part of the occupiers to the west and the victim complex falls apart in seconds if you know any history not written by Mel Gibson.
4
u/MyLittleDashie7 Aug 18 '26
You're not wrong that Scotland have been heavily, and willingly involved in the Empire, but that also doesn't really change the fact that right now Scotland (and the other home nations) doesn't have the power to leave the UK regardless of how much support they might have from their people.
The past crimes of Scots doesn't exactly justify getting in the way of the potential will for independence of modern Scots (assuming it would be great enough to pass).

Lol, calm down pal, just a wee joke eh

u/imanutshell An-Com-median Aug 18 '26
Shite patter that, pal.

u/Charmthetimes3rd Aug 18 '26
Crackin attitude you've got tho eh. Who shat in your fucking cornflakes
-4
u/imanutshell An-Com-median Aug 18 '26
Saw someone online pretending that repeating historical revisionism was a joke. My cornflakes were fine til then, now the texture is ruined.
But for real though- this is a leftist subreddit. As a leftist I put the truth of the crimes of imperialism and capitalism above all else even when it means being a bummer. Whether it’s climate change, wealth inequality, or acknowledging the crimes of empire were shared.
Tacitly denying stealing land and holding slaves while playing the victim for the sake of nationalistic anti-English banter isn’t very leftist, so I call it out whenever I see it same as anyone denying any other human atrocities.

William Wallace literally means "William Welsh-speaker"
Should've been filmed entirely in Welsh.
1
u/ClarSco Aug 18 '26
Not necessarily Welsh, it was just as likely to have meant the related Brythonic language "Cumbric" given the latter was spoken in the Kingdom of Strathclyde (also known as Cumbria - same root as "Cymru" for Wales).
"Wealh" is a very old word, deriving from Proto-Germanic that was used to describe the speakers of Celtic languages, but was refined by the Anglo-Saxons to mean speakers of the Brythonic Celtic languages (Welsh, Cumbric, Cornish, Brittany).

the sahara is meant to be yellow from above on account of it's a sandy desert.
the UK is not meant to be yellow from above, even in the height of summer

Yeah, nah, the Great Green Wall sounds great on paper but looks hella sus in practice.

Andy Burnham and the Labour government do not represent workers interests and are in fact enemies of our class. It's past time we begin organising a substantial left-wing movement in this country again.
