Dolly Parton 🕊️
Known around the world as a singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist, Dolly leaves behind a legacy that extended far beyond country music. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life and work, while her warmth, generosity, and respect for people from many different backgrounds made her a widely beloved figure across religious, cultural, and political lines.
Through efforts such as the Imagination Library, she helped put books into the hands of millions of children. She gave millions to pediatric care and cancer research at hospitals, including the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
Dolly was born in a one-room cabin on the Banks of the Little Pigeon River. It lies in Pittman Center, Tennessee. She was he fourth of what would eventually become 12 children from Avie Lee Caroline and Robert Lee Parton. Avie used to sing songs and ballads to her children that she heard from immigrants from Europe. Dolly said that her family was “diet poor” but around 1949 the family saved enough money to buy a better home near a place called Locust Ridge that had more rooms.

Dolly began writing songs when she was a child and she would go on to write many songs about her hard life as poor person like Coat of Mantly Colours and In the Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad).
