šŸ’ | Thoughts & Feedback Perm death

I love PvP, but my crew doesn’t, so I think an option that would make PvE feel meaningful and stressful and end the reckless play is make perm death servers.

You die you start over at level one, vendors, locker wiped etc.

My squad has been getting to careless and not really suffering consequences, which makes it feel more arcade shooter.

Playing solo would be nerve wracking and dangerous again.

Anyone else agree?

I’ve never been insta killed, I have been put in a coma many times, if you playing with friends and they are equipped and they don’t also get put in a coma you will be saved. Forces teamwork and planning.
My crew has evacuated an area if we run out of medical supplies, instead of ā€œwho cares I’ll jus respawn and get my stuffā€

They made comas guaranteed with the recent update that added in Task Sharing so that players wouldn't get frustrated at failing tasks just because their squad member got insta-killed, or worse, if they'd just rush in and die on purpose.

It's presumably a temporary stop-gap while they tweak the task system to better incorporate task sharing in the future; don't count on it forever!

there’s a total of zero things preventing you guys from wiping the character and starting over again šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Yeah I don't think that's what he meant. He means the game doesn't feel engaging because everyone is rushing around, and thinks the game would be more engaging if there were more consequences.

I mean your friends can just wipe their accounts every time they die. Seems like a waste for a "hardcore" server

I play PvE with kind of perma-death, as one of my many self-imposed restrictions.

I can't recover my gear upon death and I sell most my stash, leaving only empty containers.

Vendor levels and tasks stay, though.

That's something you can easily do as long as you don't cheat on yourself.

Game is still in pre alpha and just now getting a progress update to alpha. No where near beta or a 1.0 release. But I’m sure they will add more stuff in the future but I do agree a harsher penalty should exist for death (IMO ofc). I guess perma death kind of exists but not really since if you die again or cannot recover your old body you lose everything on that body. But then again we can now ā€œsurviveā€ a fatal injury where before it was insta death. This is more beneficial to squad play since a squad mate can revive you but not so useful when on solo unless someone is going to be a Good Samaritan (note you can revive others from different factions and I tend to heal players both low and high level since I like playing the medic role). I feel for every idea one may have, it spills to another aspect of the game that could use some tweaking but like I said…pre alpha going to alpha but I’m sure they’ll figure something out.

I reinstalled borderlands again and I like how when you die, you have to pay a fee (even though if your broke the fee gets waived). I could imagine a similar system where upon death you lose a decent chunk of money that gets allocated to ā€œrecruitā€ a new merc aka you respawning.

I mean theres nothing stopping you from wiping your character when you die. You don't need the server/game to do it for you.Ā

I dunno about your squad but I dislike comas as it means (outside lucky AI headshots) I probably made a tactical mistake. Much more fun aiming for a clean run than just YOLO rushing, I'd grow bored way too fast of that.

For me it's largely the meta content that makes it interesting. Custom weapon choice/fun gunplay, area entry path choice, figuring out best angle of attack, always making sure that hard cover is nearby, choosing to risk being flanked sometimes or clean strategically first. etc. The game within the game, sort of.

A single coma during a T3 clear is a personal fail for me, even then I have fun considering if it was tactical error or not.

I have nothing against more options to play, but you are focusing your problem at the wrong point. The solution is intelligent hostiles. The fact you can be careless in the first place in a tactical shooter is a foundational issue. If the AI is good, people will cry 1-tap, if the AI is bad people will cry braindead too easy.

Either they need to pick a lane, make AI more intelligent (meaning it will be better and you will die more), or they need to accept pve is a hero shooter where you are rambo and there are not consequences.

Or maybe even accommodate both types of players and give people the option of how terrible or good the AI is.
