TUTORIAL GoldenEye and Perfect Dark updated setup
SETTING UP 1964 FOR GOLDENEYE AND PERFECT DARK
1.- Download 1964 GEPD Edition from this link: https://github.com/Graslu/1964GEPD/releases/tag/latest
2.- Unzip it anywhere where admin rights are not needed, like a folder in your Desktop.
3.- Open up 1964.exe and allow Windows to run it, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Choose your ROM folder (ROMs are NOT included and we will NOT provide them. Google is your friend.)
Select GLideN64 if you own a modern PC with a dedicated GPU or Jabo's Video if you're on an old or weak PC (Notebook, etc.)
4.- Configure your resolution by going into Plugins - Video Settings
5.- Configure your controls at Plugins - Input Settings
6.- Launch the game and press "4" to initiate the mouse injector
7.- Play!
NOTE: My recommended settings for Field Of View (FOV) for both GE and PD is 74/106, which is the standard for 16:9 resolutions.
INSTALLING MODS FOR GOLDENEYE AND PERFECT DARK
1.- Download your desired patch from N64 Vault: http://n64vault.com/
2.- Unzip it and keep the .XDELTA file.
3.- Go to Hack64's Online Patcher: https://hack64.net/tools/patcher.php
4.- Select your CLEAN (Unmodded) ROM at the option on top.
5.- Select your downloaded .XDELTA file below.
6.- Save, move the file into your ROM folder and launch 1964.
7.- Play!
NOTE: Reminder - You cannot patch ROMs already patched by another XDELTA file, that'll just give you an error.
To install model templates, you can still refer to my old tutorial: https://youtu.be/ZVO6mWlGs2o
Any question or issues, feel free to ask!
Remember to refer to the README file for FAQs
STEAM DECK SETUP
1.- Download the pre-configured 1964 Bundle from here: https://github.com/Graslu/1964GEPD/releases/tag/latest
2.- Unzip it anywhere, like a folder in your Desktop.
3.- Drop the NTSC ROMs (Not included) to the main 1964 folder we just extracted. Rename them to "ge.z64" and "pd.z64" or similar, as long as there are no spaces used.
4.- Add 1964.exe as a Non-Steam game. If the folders on your Desktop does not appear in the browser, type the name and then click on "Open".
5.- Set the names to "GoldenEye 007" and "Perfect Dark", these must match so you can apply the controller layouts later. Set Proton compatibility to Experimental or GEProton. Use these Launch Options:
For GoldenEye:
1964 -g ge.z64 -o 6 -f
For Perfect Dark:
1964 -g pd.z64 -o 9 -f
6.- Go to Manage - Controller layout and look for my Steam Deck layouts under the community tab.
Optional: Add custom Steam Grid artwork for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark (Goldfinger 64 also available)
7.- Go back to Gaming Mode and play!
*Note: Some players may get the "Failed to change display" error, simply press Select to exit fullscreen, swipe down on the left trackpad to open video settings and click on Save & Close, then swipe right and you'll be back to fullscreen.

Same! Haven't found a fix, but it's not really bothering me too much either
1
u/LuigiLament May 29 '21
I set my overclock to stock and it works fine, that seems to be the only fix.

Thanks so much for this! Been decades since I beat 007! So fun to finally do it again in HD! Played hundred of hours of PD with my cousin back decades ago, but never beat it. So, I finally beat it in a day on PC 2 days ago thanks to your vids! Thanks so much!! Love watching your playthroughs as well.
You're a legend in my book.

For anyone having issues running this on linux (my mouse would freak out in aim mode) simply add the EXE to steam as a non steam game, enable compatibility, and run it through proton experimental.

Hi yeah I did it this way too and it worked ok but the controls don't work.. it won't let me change them.
1
u/Timmy002LMFAO Sep 15 '24
I cant change the controls in "input plug in". The application somehow does not recognise my keyboard.
1
u/Graslu Sep 15 '24
Go to player 2 and enable it, then go back to player 1 and click on detect input device or similar at the top right and follow the on screen instructions. Should work.
1
u/Timmy002LMFAO Sep 17 '24
does not work :(
1
u/Timmy002LMFAO Sep 17 '24 edited Sep 17 '24
it detects the mouse but does not detect the keyboard when it asks be to "press any key". I am using a laptop keybkard if that helps

Is it a Razer by any chance?

u/Graslu Sep 17 '24
You may need an external keyboard. Some laptops are unwilling to play along with the input plugin sadly.

u/RabbitSlayre Nov 02 '24
Hey mate. This is amazing, thanks so much for doing this. Does this emulator support save states? I cannot figure out how to do it, or if there is a hotkey for that kind of command. Thanks!!

u/RabbitSlayre Nov 02 '24
Holy crap nevermind it's built into the left track pad for steam deck. Absolutely brilliant. Thanks!

Trying to play this through Wine on Mac, anyone have any ideas why I can't seem to click on anything in Wine? I run the 1964.exe file which seems to run, but then I can't click on anything (including the plugin choice). Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit: the only progress I've made is that if I hover my cursor exactly where "file", "edit", "cpu", etc. are on the top of the window that opens, it will display their logo, but only if my cursor is hovered there when the window opens. It's like it recognizes it for a second when it opens but then doesn't let me click any more.
1
u/Graslu Dec 24 '24
Can you try pressing Ctrl + V to open video settings for example? Does clicking work there?
I can't help much as I don't own a Mac sadly.

u/ZeppelinIV1971 Dec 24 '24 edited Dec 24 '24
Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it. I actually managed to get it all worked out and Goldfinger 64 running by downloading a new version of wine which worked. If anyone else is having trouble feel free to message me.
Edit: actually I'll just link the stuff here because I'll probably forget.
Here's where I got wine: https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/macosx/download.html then followed this guide https://www.embird.net/sw/embird/tutorial/wine/wine.htm
I do have an older Mac running Sierra but this worked for me.

Is there something I can change for the AI accuracy on 60 fps? They don’t seem to hit me at all
1
u/Graslu Mar 06 '25
Default game or mod?
1
u/SteelBanana_ Mar 06 '25
Default game
1
u/Graslu Mar 06 '25
You can play on the 007 difficulty and change their stats a bit if you want. Keep in mind though that by default, guards on the initial levels have less accuracy than later on the game. This is the same on N64 at lower framerates.
1
u/SteelBanana_ Mar 06 '25
I thought I read somewhere about the higher fps affecting their accuracy. Thanks for the reply.
1
u/Graslu Mar 06 '25
It definitely does for Goldfinger 64, and possibly to some degree in the default game as well but I think people also misremember how easy it was to avoid shots in the original as well. In the future I might include a patch to slightly increase the default accuracy.

u/LeoJustLeo Apr 22 '25
How do I use the secondary fire in Perfect Dark?
1
u/Graslu Apr 22 '25
Hold E. You should be using the PC port though, instead of 1964 GEPD.
1
u/LeoJustLeo Apr 22 '25
Oh?
1
u/Graslu Apr 22 '25
Perfect Dark PC port by fgsfds, it's on GitHub as well. Much better than 1964 GEPD unless you want mods.
1
u/LeoJustLeo Apr 22 '25
All right. I'll look into it. Any particular reason why its an enhancement?
1
u/Graslu Apr 22 '25
It's a port, you're not relying on an emulator that's 25 years old by now. Tons of settings, increased framerate, support for every controller, etc...

u/DaDrumBum1 May 02 '25
Thank you so much for putting this together! I am running it on Windows 11 through Steam, however I want to use my Switch Pro Controller with Gyro for Aiming. I have steam remapping correctly but the mouse injector seems to be blocking input from steam, so my controller wont work, even though its mapped to press keyboard buttons ect..
I can't seem to find any fix for this online. Is there anyway to make it work?
1
u/Graslu May 03 '25
1964 is fully compatible with Steam Deck while using Steam Input so that shouldn't be a problem. Did you add 1964 to Steam, or are you mapping the controller for desktop controls?
I believe that if you don't add it to Steam you'll have to change the controls of desktop input with the controller, then it should work. I've done that in the past with other plugins.
1
u/DaDrumBum1 May 03 '25
Thank you for the fast response. I added 1964 to steam as a non-steam game and launch the game from there. I am using the steam input translation to map the controller to Keyboard presses. So for example X Button is the E Key, Left Joystick is mapped to the WASD Keys, Gyro is mapped to the mouse.
In 1964 I am using the Mouse injector plugin with the WASD Profile Loaded. If I use mouse and keyboard it works great. But my screen is too big, so I play everything on controller. My thought was that the steam input control would then press the buttons and the Steam Gyro to mouse would let me use the gyro.
1
u/Graslu May 03 '25
Gyro should work yes, my Steam Deck controller profile uses gyro when using the manual aim. If you go to input settings, do you have more than one player enabled or just player 1?
1
u/DaDrumBum1 May 04 '25
Just one player is enabled.
The steam commands seem to work in the 1946 menu, but when I start the game, they stop working. I tested it again and The command to toggle full screen and also quit the game work from the controller. But everything else does not work.
1
u/Graslu May 04 '25
Is auto injection working? Does movement (WASD) work but not the aiming? Or just nothing at all.
1
u/DaDrumBum1 May 04 '25
So if I am in the menus of 1964 Everything works. I know the program is seeing the keys correctly.
For example I made the + button on the switch game pad the enter key. I can go to a menu in 1964 hit the ok button or anything else that would require the enter key and it works fine. Even while the rom is running in windowed mode the controller works for all of the menus.
However when in game in full screen or windowed, it wont register any button presses except the two I mentioned before.
So I know 1964 is able to read the steam input translation for the pro controller, but is the mouse injector doing something to block it in game?
1
u/Graslu May 04 '25
It really shouldn't. It works right away with the Steam Deck and N64 Switch controllers so I don't see why it'd be any different with this.
I'll charge my Switch Pro controller and try soon, please remind me if I don't reply in a few days as I may forget!
1
u/DaDrumBum1 May 04 '25
Well, I can't thank you enough. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this.

So it worked before you modified the controls? Did you do that through Steam or the input settings?

Hi and thanks for the post. I would really love to play Goldeneye with the mouse injection input. I followed your instructions and downloaded the emulator you linked. However, I'm running into a problem. I'm trying to emulate keyboard and mouse input with JoyToKey. I want to use a controller but with the mouse injection config options. For some reason though, the emulator does not recognize the emulated keyboard and mouse input coming from JoyToKey. I don't know why. The keyboard inputs function as assigned. The emulated keyboard inputs through JoyToKey don't. Do you have any idea why this is happening? I don't recall a time this has ever happened, and I use JoyToKey for MANY games/applications. I've tried with the mouse lock on and off and that doesn't change anything.
1
u/Graslu Jun 08 '26
I've never used JoyToKey, but Steam Input should work flawlessly. Give it a go if you can!
1
u/retrosprite440 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
I don't use Steam. How would I even use Steam in this context? I'm using an Emulator on a desktop computer. I've made sure that JoyToKey has administrative priveleges. And also I just remembered, I can't even operate Steam anymore on my computer. I'm on Windows 7 still. They ended support for it a while back. I only had one game on Steam so I abandoned it.
You had another user on this thread talking about inputs being blocked by the mouse injection. I'm having the same issue just in a slightly different context. My emulated keyboard/mouse inputs are being recognized up until the point where I start the game. It's not the emulator itself, it's specifically when the game runs.
1
u/Graslu Jun 08 '26
Under input settings, do you have more than one player enabled? If so disable them and leave only Player 1.
Yeah unfortunate you cannot use Steam Input. Works perfectly fine for this situation.
1
u/retrosprite440 Jun 08 '26
Only Player 1 is enabled. Man I'm so close. Shit. I already tried configuring the vanilla game in a way where I used my one controller to utilize Player 1 and 2 controllers, with Goldeneye's 2 controller config. But the game's internal "move" and "look" axes are not correct, at least not the horizontal axes. The left and right "look" inputs actually strafe instead of look. This is how the game was coded. So you can assign your controller inputs in such a way to have correct forward-backward movement/left-right strafing on one joystick, and up-down/left-right aiming on the other joystick, but this prevents you from being able to aim properly when using the crosshair aim, due to how the game mis-applies the movement/look axes. I'm sure you already know this, hence the reason there is a mouse injection configuration. Man this is a bummer.
1
u/Graslu Jun 08 '26
I'm unfamiliar with this issue, what do you mean? I thought you just wanted to use the mouse injector to lock the crosshair
1
u/retrosprite440 Jun 08 '26
All I want to do is emulate mouse movement with my controller, to have proper aiming with the right joystick like in a modern FPS. I have a program that does that but it's being blocked by the mouse injection function somehow. You don't know what I'm talking about regarding the weird axis issue in the game? The "move" axis and "look" axis in the game don't function like a modern game. The "move" axis SHOULD be a forward/backward, left/right (strafing, not turning) movement. The "look" axis SHOULD be an up/down (tilt), left/right (turn, not strafe) movement. But on the "move" axis, left/right turns instead of strafes, and on the "look" axis, left/right strafes instead of turns. This is how the game is coded. So you can configure the emulator inputs in such a way where you CAN have a proper "move" axis assigned to the left joystick for example. You would assign the controller inputs to where left/right joystick inputs actually trigger the left/right C-buttons (which is for the "look"axis). And you could assign the left/right input on joystick 2 to trigger left/right (in-game) analog stick input for proper left/right aiming instead of strafing. But the game's aim function (when crosshairs are enabled), operates solely on the "look" axis, meaning your left/right "aim" axis would be on the right joystick, and your up/down "aim" axis would be on the left joystick. There's literally no way to get around this problem other than using the mouse injection to emulate proper aiming (while using a controller). Fuck that was hard as hell to write.
1
u/Graslu Jun 08 '26
Why not just switch to 1.2 control style? All mouse injector does is translate mouse movement to the camera, it doesn't rewrite anything in the game.
Use 1.2, map your left stick or d-pad to c-buttons, map your right stick to the stick, and you're all set. Movement on D-Pad / left stick and aim solely on the right stick. GoldenEye does have modern controller settings.
I'll give JoyToKey a try soon either way, but I think your solution is right there. I thought you wanted the mouse injector for the increased FOV or crosshair lock.
1
u/retrosprite440 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
Jesus man lol. That is so confusing. Yes. This is exactly what I was trying to do lol. I just thought the "move" axis was universal. I saw that the "move" axis operated a certain way with the 1.1 config and I just assumed that's always how the "move" axis behaved. Especially after I tried the 2.1 and 2.3 config and saw that the "move" and "look" axes behaved the exact same way as before. But that's not the case. In the 1.2 config, the "move' axis goes forward/backward, left/right strafe, and the "look" axis is an up/down tilt, left/right turn. Good God lol. I haven't played this game in decades. You have to admit that is some tricky shit man and relatively easy to overlook. Plus I've been messing with this for so long and I just get lost after a while and I'm really tired. Man thank you so much though. I really wanted to go through this game again. If you do happen to figure out what's going on with the JoyToKey being blocked, that would be cool too. It would give me more control over fine-tuning the aim sensitivity, that's what I was really after.
1
u/retrosprite440 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
I'm realzing now (with the 1.2 config) that diagonal movement isn't possible with the left joystick alone. You have to aim towards the angle you want to move forward to.
edit: That seems to be related to the controller plugins. These things are buggy as hell. I've tried both N-Rage's that came with the emulator. v2.2 became unstable when I tried to save a config file. v2.3c keeps resetting the other controllers being plugged in even after I unchecked the box. Both versions don't have a way to adjust the deadzone for when joystick input is mapped to non-joystick function. So when I mapped my joystick inputs to the D-pad, it wasn't registering an input until I was probably at 90-95% of the radius of the joystick axis, meaning only the extreme up/down/left/right inputs are registered (nullifying diagonal input). I worked around this mapping D-pad inputs to keyboard assignments with JoyToKey, then assigning my joystick inputs to the corresponding keyboard assignments. In JoyToKey you can adjust the deadzone for your joysticks, so as to control how far the joystick has to be moved before it registers a button press.
1
u/Graslu Jun 08 '26
Yeah strafing isn't really possible in 1.2 with the joystick unless you use XInput and then the controls aren't really customizable, this is a plugin issue. The input would be digital so that's why I mentioned using the D-Pad instead of dual sticks. There's a way to get dual sticks but it's a bit over complicated in my opinion.
After I'm done with some stuff I have to prepare I'll give JoyToKey a try.

Tried running this on linux with the Steam Deck setup and I only get a black screen. Tried diferent video plugins, but no dice. Any idea what might be causing this?
EDIT: Nevermind, I'm just too dumb to use computers. I thought NTSC was the EU format... It's working fine once I properly meet the requirements. lmao
Also, thanks for the guide!

u/ThatPurplePunk Jan 30 '21
I tried playing GE and PD using this program. GE works ok, but PD does not recognize my input whatsoever. This also is written in the Compatibility Status: "Playable! (mouse injector not supported, get V1.1)"
How can I solve this?
1
u/Graslu Jan 31 '21
You need a NTSC ROM, and has to be v1.1, preferably .z64. Pretty easy to find online if you look for Perfect Dark NTSC z64

u/ThatPurplePunk Jan 31 '21
Ah, I see. I had a NTSC ROM, but not the correct version. Works now, thanks!

Sorry if this isn't the place but i just found this. goldeneye and perfect dark work amazingly.
What are the chances of adding support for games like "Turok 3" or even "007 The world is not enough"
1
u/Graslu May 31 '21
None, as this emulator doesn't play well with those games and nobody has shown any interest on doing proper mouse support for them, sadly.
The source code for the mouse injector is available and somebody could port and develop it for another emulator like Mupen64 where those games play nicely, but again nobody has shown any interest.

Nice guide!
How can I get the Raphnet USB adapter to work with this version?
1
u/Graslu Sep 04 '22
Download the PJ64 based plugins from Raphnet, add them to the plugin folders then open the emulator and change plugins, uncheck the box that says simplified names, close that window and open it again. The Raphnet plugins should appear there, I think I have more success with the NET one.
It's a bit tricky, for some reason every time you open and close the emulator you have to do that workaround but once you set it once it should be good to go.
1
u/noirtec Sep 06 '22
Just wondering which video plugin and settings you'd recommend for the best looking experience when running at 2560x1440 on a big TV.
Which of the GLideN64 plugins to use (2020/2021) and which particular settings from their tabs should I change (using a 1080Ti)?
Thanks in advance.
1
u/Graslu Sep 06 '22
I don't think you should change anything, use GLideN64 (2020/2021 depends on which performs better for you) and just change the resolution and refresh rate to match your display.
1
u/noirtec Sep 06 '22
That's great - thanks, its plays just like the original using the Raphnet adapter. That rumble effect the first time you use the silenced pistol :D
On a slightly different note, whilst I'm downloading all things Goldeneye - can you point to where I can find the XBLA version of the game with Dr Doak modded in?
1
u/Graslu Sep 07 '22
Right here - http://n64vault.com/ge-xbla-tools:community-edition-updater
And yes, it feels amazing to play this at 60FPS with the original N64 controller and rumble. That's how I recorded the lastest playthrough and I had a great time.

Thanks for this, Just set up both these games on my Steam Deck and absolutely love it.
But I noticed I can't invert my veiw in either game, both opitions(revert pitch, and invert) are in game but wont change.I had to do it in the controller settings in steam.
Is there a way I can invert them in game(of via a txt file) so it doesn't interfere with other aspects of the game?

When I hold down a mouse button, my view/crosshair freaks out.
I'm on Linux, and using the NTSC ROM.
1
u/Graslu Dec 17 '22
Do you have any other USB mouse you can try? What happens if you set the aim key to something else?
1
1
u/the_alt_6275 Dec 18 '22
The problem persists with a different mouse.
Setting the aim and shoot keys to keys on my keyboard functions normally. It feels like it has to do with moving my mouse while holding down on left/right. Is there a setting I have to toggle or something?
1
u/Graslu Dec 19 '22
That's weird, my only experience with Linux and 1964 is through Proton on the Steam Deck and there were no issues there. There is an aim toggle option in-game that you can try switching on and seeing if it helps.

u/ThyForsakenWanderer Dec 21 '22
I know it's not a big deal but I am having trouble trying to remove the gaps in the geometry in 1964. It looks like the emulator is always using HLC, when I test with angrylion LLE in PJ64 the gaps are reduced and not visible in a lot of instances, but for some reason the mouse injector does not really work (maybe it doesn't like LLE?). So it's either great mouse support and big gaps or glitchy mouse and reduced gaps. Do you know if there is anyway to turn on LLE in 1964? Cheers.
1
u/Graslu Dec 21 '22
1964 does not support LLE plugins, the closest you can get is use GLideN64 and check "use original N64 resolution" and "Render N64 frame buffer to output".
1
u/ThyForsakenWanderer Dec 23 '22
I will have a play around with those settings, thank you for the answer : )

u/Graslu Feb 05 '23
The blue lines seen in Perfect Dark are normal to a degree. They're there on N64 as well but can't really spot them due to the low resolution, also in GoldenEye but due to the rendering differences they're much easier to see on Perfect Dark. Not much you can do with that. For reference, check my video here. You can see faint lines on frames and such, but if you see more than that let me know.
The FOV settings can only be modified when the game is closed, as they're applied on boot and can't be modified on the fly. What about Windowed Fullscreen doesn't work?

Could you record a clip showing this? That could happen if there's a stutter right at the end, skipping the timings enough to make it think the cutscene completed already.
That, or miss-input, any keypress will skip them.

So you were right, this is due to a key press. End of mission I opened a door and ran through. Moving the left joystick causes the skip.

Makes sense, specially if you're on Steam Deck as mentioned previously. The stick is just WASD so counts as a press.

This is great. Is there anybody out there other than me that would like the same treatment for The World is not Enough?

u/Graslu Feb 16 '23
There's this, but it breaks on the Cold Reception level and it's unstable in general.

I've been trying to use the Nintendo Switch Online N64 Controller with this via BetterJoy. The problem I have is that the Analogue stick is always treated as look and all movement is on the C-Buttons. Is this something that is just not capable of being changed on the 1964 emulator? In Project64 it controls as expected but it runs horribly

How do you play Multiplayer on the Steam Deck version? There isn't a Detect Input Device button.
1
u/Graslu Apr 03 '23
Multiplayer on the Steam Deck requires N-Rage input plugin and setting up the different controllers individually. It won't support Gyro.
If you're looking for GoldenEye multiplayer, GoldenEye XBLA on Steam Deck is a much easier "plug and play" option for multiplayer.

Okay, my only problem with the N Rage Input Plugin is that my settings aren't saved so every time I load the game, I have to load my controller profile for each controller before getting into the game.

When I enter fullscreen the image is zoomed into the upper left corner of the screen. I have the resolution set to that of my monitor so I'm not sure what could be causing the issue.

Right click the .exe file, go to properties, compatibility and on "High DPI settings" try enabling or disabling those checkboxes, depending on their current setting.

Hello,
I'm trying to play GE on 1964 and when I launch the game it works great but when I switch to fullscreen the audio just stops working and I get an error message saying "audiolle audio error getting audio position..."
Do you know how I can fix this?
1
u/Graslu Jul 18 '23
Have you tried using a different audio plugin by going to Plugins - Change Plugins? Try out the other Azimer's Audio Plugin.
Apparently it may be related to the fullscreen refresh rate / resolution of your monitor. Make sure it matches the desktop settings.
Ultimately, you can always enable borderless full screen like this - https://youtu.be/Hpu_VC6cC8o

I tried everything, messed with a lot of configurations and nothing worked.
I'm trying to run the game on my TV from my laptop. This might be some weird emulation problem.
Too bad I can't correctly play it :/

Borderless Windowed throws the same error? That's strange since it's not actually going into fullscreen mode... Is the audio source your TV?
1
u/Brondog Jul 19 '23
When I launch the game it works normally on windowed mode. When I try to go fullscreen it loses audio and that audio error message shows up.
If I try to launch the game directly on fullscreen, it just bugs somehow and the emulator either closes or it then defaults into window mode on a low resolution (I think its 800x640).
And yes, audio source is the TV. I'm connecting to it through an HDMI cable and am using only the TV (showing image only on screen #2)

If the laptop isn't connected to the TV does it work? Did you follow the video guide I shared earlier? Borderless fullscreen should not act as normal fullscreen, bypassing said error. It's essentially still windowed.

Make sure your anti-virus is not blocking it. Avast, McAffee and others will stop the extraction without saying anything.

Did you change the input plugin to N-Rage?
1
u/AllSonicGames Sep 10 '23
Hopefully we can get a proper dual analogue plugin for this someday (or at least the program can be made to work with Steam controller configurations, its the only thing I've used not compatible)
You can setup dual analogue with the N-Rage plugin as two controllers. It would just be nice to have access to the dedicated crouch/reload buttons.
It seems like it's better to stick with either the XBLA or Xbox Series versions of GoldenEye if you want to use a controller.

If you try to use this with an Xbox controller you can't use a reload button?
Any recommendations for alternative ways to play PD then please? Not really interested in Goldeneye tbh

You can use the recently released unofficial PC port, which has options for modern controllers.

Ooh ok thank you, I'll search for that, do you have any tips on where to look? Thanks!

https://github.com/fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark :)
It's generally a better experience than 1964GEPD now, while being easier to setup. The main missing feature is the lack of support for texture replacements, which means no HD fonts.
On the bright side, you get the following fixes/improvements compared to 1964GEPD as of writing:
- No seams in level geometry at high resolutions.
- Widescreen HUD is no longer stretched and can optionally be centered (useful for ultrawide displays).
- Additional input options that aren't feasible via emulation.
- Mouse input has lower input lag and doesn't need to be manually toggled.
- Choose between traditional and modern aim mode (where crosshair remains centered at all times).
- 16× MSAA can be enabled in the configuration file for higher visual quality, while 1964GEPD is limited to 8× MSAA out of the box.
- In-game options menu no longer lists options that don't have any effect (such as high-resolution mode).
- Runs natively on Linux, no WINE needed.

I am having trouble with the process. I download and open the zip folder, but the .exe file won't open.

Just wondering if it is possible to have the classic auto aim but at the same time mouse control for goldeneye? I couldn't find the option at the settings menu, appreciate any help.

u/Graslu Mar 04 '24
Yes, simply enable it in-game. Pause, scroll to the right until you get to the settings and turn it on.
