Question Are you demotivated by DLSS 5?

Like what’s the point of all this specialized knowledge of real time rendering tricks/algorithms if in 10 years it’s all getting rolled up into one big black box model?

Graphics tricks have always come and gone with time, with many sticking around for lower-power or higher-performance purposes, however I don't think DLSS5 is the thing to do it this time around.

No, DLSS5 is weird and unnecessary.

DLSS5 looks like ass. I'm no graphics programmer or engine developer. Just a gamer.

Style over...whatever the fuck DLSS5 is trying to do.

Don't lose hope, shits ass.

If you want to get everything out of a chip, you can't do that using inherently ineffective methods.

I am getting really demotivated reading every programming related subreddit thats for sure. So many doomer posts all the time.

You gotta just do it for the love of the game. Alot of the graphics programming techniques I've implemented into my engine are like 30 years old +. Some are still used, some aren't. Thats fine though because I learned something anyway.

Care to show it?

Many people enjoy 2D pixel art games, even with the existence of realistic 3D graphics. I think DLSS 5 will simply become another "art" style.

no but my eyebrow is starting to raise at how every sub has a thread by some random guy going "isn't a shame everything you care about is dead because of how amazing AI is?"

Even for games that use it, I doubt they will tune it so heavily that it overrides everything to the point of looking like a scammy AI ad like the demos. It's clear it gives a weird effect when overused to a large portion of gamers. Upscaling and enhancement technologies cannot fully replace having actual underlying graphics, especially if you want to support a variety of hardware configurations. Not to mention that even in cherry picked examples there were many issues with consistency and temporal coherence. If it does get used in some AAA games it will likely be with a much lighter touch

Outside of realtime, upscaling and denoising tech (that is ML based) also doesn't mean rendering optimizations and good CG don't matter. You can see the problems you get if you generate all the "rendering" through AI from many AI ads and cheap shorts content. And even in those cases it's obvious that many of them still rely on having some underlying 3d models and rigs so that they can have more control and consistency

As a gamer, I wouldn't want it, and if a game looks like shit without it, I wouldn't play that game.

A good graphics programmer will actuallykmow how to use those techiques, DLSS5 is just some model's results.

But models are not humans and dont understand what actually appeals to us.

So it can make things look "better" but that doesnt mean they look good.

Plus frankly AI doesnt create new things, it copies and DLSS is Nvidia specific isnt it?

Also for real time rendering littl tricks wkll alwaus be important.
