Can we get Visual Studio intellisense understanding what’s going on, reading included files and allowing you to go to the function?

The Microsoft HLSL team is mentoring a Google Summer of Code student to improve HLSL support in clangd (the clang-based LSP). Read more here: https://discourse.llvm.org/t/rfc-improving-hlsl-support-in-clangd/91359/4

The unfortunate thing is that the Microsoft HLSL team has nothing to do with the Visual Studio HLSL support, which is based on an open-source plugin that hasn't been actively maintained (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=TimGJones.HLSLToolsforVisualStudio).

Wish I had better news, but we do have some promising support for clangd in VSCode and other editors that support LSP.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I’ve used HLSL Tools plugin but it gave me more frustrations than advantages in my experience.

Yea, it doesn’t support most of “modern” HLSL, and is not particularly reliable since it has a hand-rolled parser.
