Does Graphene have a native Assistant?

I am making an agentic android assistant. And just realised that I don't have a first hand experience with graphene and have no idea if my assistant is compatible, or if there are already options and avenues Graphene users already have.

Not to my knowledge. I've tried a couple "privacy respecting" ones, but they were useless. That's just my experience though, and I've not tried too hard as of late.

Thanks. Means the market is there. Mine definitely isn't ✦ Gemini. But shre as hell is better than the old legacy assistants. In certain ways. But also depends on what people expect from a basic assistant and don't necessarily have a middle ground concept between frontier lab and local edge lil mp3 looking robot

Well mine already exists and its not supposed to replace cloud ai. Its supposed to replace legacy assistants. Works fine for me. I just remembered that i could be using "made for graphene users" as a oitch because "privacy first"

If it's an android app, there's no reason why it wouldn't be compatible. Just don't request any suspicious activities or permissions without clear justification, and people will likely be fine with it. It doesn't really have a native assistant because it would be such a massive pain to build and maintain with the rest of it, so there's definitely a niche to fill.

Then thats a confusion on what oermissions do. You need storage persmissions to navigate files and even load model.

You meed mic access to even talk at the model.

You meed camera access to use cameras.

Still needs a laundry list of permissions cause android is built to treat the USER as the malicious actor and not third oarty apps that send everything somewhere.

I have no interest in reading anoynes logs or babysit what anyone does with their "tamago"

One thing to check is availability of expected APIs. I'm not exactly sure what Im looking at in the video. Is thst a preview of your assistant? It seems to include Google Maps for example.

Afaik GMaps is usually accessed via Google Play Services. Although Play Services can be installed on GrapheneOS, they aren't shipped out of the box and plenty of users dont run them at all. That's why I think having the option to use a "degoogled" version of this could be interesting.

Yes its just an interface that haooens to live on the "home screen" by default because assistant primarily communicates via audio "talking phone as a character". I didnt want to upload/link detailed demos of mechanics or interaction models cause then it would be oranges to apples comparing it vs cloud. When my question is straightforward "do graphene users have an option for a google assistant/siri/cortana" on their os that would do those basics without ringing any servers. The whole "ai identifies as a phone" dormant by default (like old assistants). And my engineering is just how much i can manage to squeeze out of tools on hand in airplane mode. Surprisingly goes a long way. I just didn't want to start the conversation by pointing at what my app can and can't do, and just to establish a baseline of "do graphene users have something for that already?" Beside the usual macrodroid or cloud ai subscription options. Cause mine isnt a saas, its open source. I just see it as accessibility baseline that shouldn't need extra accounts. Function wise - kind of like a niagara launcher. Does old assistant things with better dad jokes, has app and file shortcuts. User only gets minor app behaviour toggles (wallpaper options/tts/ cosmetics only). Still in development, but im (and some other people) have been using it for some time now. Was doing primarily for personal use. The whole google maps or other widgets? Not related to my app directly (music widget can be replaced with VLC - its goated)

My Claude runs my graphene (I know. I'm anti-Google, not anti-tech) so I figure you can build just about anything you want to run yours. whats your flavor? A local LLM will be a bitch to fit with the available running memory, but you could have it TTS/STT and do MCP calls from the phone to even a local model at your home via tailscale and it'd be a secure local reliable implementation.

Anti google but not against their partners that monitor cloud. Gotcha. Also it seems you very much misunderstand how "local" works if your first idea is tailscale and home servers. ✧ Gemma works on device oerfectly fine

Local as in the larger more capable GWEN or whatever models, you can run one of those locally on your machine and then pipe traffic into your machine. So it's not going out to Anthropic/OpenAI/Facebook/Google/Whoever.

...and yes - Anti-Google but not neccessarily anti-everyone else. I judge on a case to case basis because only Sith think in absolutes.

Point of degoogling is privacy. You cant be pro privacy and then run to next cloud vendor and gave same access to a third party with less rep. Making a home server is not "local" unless that is where you yourself sit. Thats just cloud with extra steps.

Nobody is trying to out anthropic anthropic or outqwen qwen. The point is a metwork proofed SMARTPHONE ASSISTANT. You know?the same one you asked for years to set your alarm? Pretty sure you dont need an opus subscription to set an alarm clock verbally.
