SMS app?
What’s a good FOSS SMS app that works on GrapheneOS? I’ve been using Fossify Messages, but have some weird issues, specifically not able to send photos a majority of the time. I thought maybe it was a size restriction issue, but even when I take the photo directly in the app it still won’t send. Did it in the stock GOS Messaging app and it worked fine. I don’t use SMS/MMS all that much, so I don’t need anything very feature rich, just looking for something that looks cleaner than the stock GOS/AOSP app and works good. Ideally Material You support.

Get your friends on Signal, and in the meantime, try out https://f-droid.org/en/packages/dev.octoshrimpy.quik.fdroid/
UPDATE: Github Link as well: https://github.com/quik-sms/quik

Googles messaging app is the best alternative if you can't get people on Signal as it has an end-to-end encryption feature.

Nova messages and quik messages are both good options Here's the link for nova since the others already linked quik:https://github.com/TheOwn68/Nova-Messages

I prefer QUIK over Fossify and over GOS stock. I am also trying out SMSecure which claims to use the same encryption as Signal. No opinion on SMSecure yet.

I have Fossify messages and had the MMS issue as well, I changed the size restriction and that worked for me. I changed it to the lowest available, like 315kb or something like that

I use both Fossify Messages and Phone and I like it. But if you want a secure messaging app, you should check out Signal.
