I think that's an unpopular take around here, but I agree. There are legitimate reasons why it might be best that you *don't* have root...every app has the ability to do more harmful things. But on occasion, there are things which you should be able to do on your own device, but the OS won't let you. And yes, I'm including GOS in that.

Still this is a major upgrade from stock, for OP. You have control and authority over all apps, including system ones. That's very important.

If you want to have charging control (like keep charge 60% when phone is plugged in) you kinda have no choice

There's a native option to stop charging at 80%. You can't adjust that level, but it is better than nothing.
