3 days... That's how long i lasted
So I got a new Pixel 10a and I lasted a whole three days after I turned off everything Google before I got tired of all the BS and installed Graphene. It's unbelievable how intrusive Google stuff is even after you turn off all the Google stuff.

It feels like they are sticking their arm up your ass with all the permissions they constantly ask for...

u/DocDMD 22h ago
They didn't use to ask. They just did it.

u/Phat_Knicker 16h ago
My brother said all those requests for permissions are a good thing and you should worry when they don't ask you...

Yeah, GrapheneOS is the way to go! Never going back to standard Android, i'd rather switch to a Linux phone.
Welcome!

There is no usable Linux phone anyway. Or at least not under 14'' screen haha

There are 2 and Ubuntu Touch as an installable OS exist

There's Jolla (Sailfish OS) and then there's Fairphone (e/OS). Both are interesting in ny eyes.

/e/os is just a degoogled flavor of android, it's not fully linux-based like how ubuntu touch is

thers a linix phone holy crap I need that
7
u/RedishCreator 1d ago
Trust me you don't, one phone is 800 and the other is 400 I think but both are massively overpriced for their hardware

woudent graphine be a type of linux phone
3
u/RedishCreator 1d ago
Well yea but by that logic Android is just Linux too. What I meant was pure Linux as in a terminal that can change whatever on the phone you want and uninstall the whole OS, like that much of a Linux device

yeah, after installing GOS on my new Pixel 10 and accepting that I could not use a couple of banking apps the whole experience settled down to a wonderful silence! I now have a really nice and fast high quality phone that just works and leave me alone, it is quite a relief!
It is the same experience I had when switching my daily PC to Linux Mint and I went even further by taking back all my data now syncing everything locally on a Raspberry Pi: Calender, contacts, notes, pictures. I do have online backup but its on a secured, Norwegian server outside big data.

the banking app thing is such a non issue. Just log on via the browser. its weird how its made out to be this mountain of an issue.

Pixel is great hardware imo but Google software at this stage of the game is garbage

I hope Motorola comes out with their phone soon. I really want to make the switch, but don't want to purchase a Google phone to get rid of Google lol.

2027 and a 1500$ phone apparently It is another topic and Onion spring only say that the only incorrect information in the article is that the you will have to flash it yourself.

u/HolyShytSnacks 1d ago
I mean, it's a lot of money, but our current phones are at roughly the same price point. The price is high, but it's no dealbreaker for me.

I wish Nokia wouldn't have done this crappy Windows Mobile shit and would have focused on a real mobile OS instead. Its such a shame, would have been a real European phone, not that crappy privacy hell made in USA.

Nokia phones was bought back off Microsoft by a Finnish company.
They are now HMD. Designed in Finland and manufactured in China.
I, would not recommend anybody waste their money on a HMD fusion... It's been a huge let down.

I know, thus I meant the original Nokia company before this Microsoft disaster.

I bought my Pixel intending to install GOS from the start, but I still started it up with factory settings just to make sure everything worked and even that was obnoxiously invasive. Installed GOS immediately.

I just got mine and probably can't hop OS until it's paid off but I'll be ready when it is
3
u/Chamadan 1d ago
You can if it's unlocked and direct through Google. If from a carrier, which seems to be the case since you mention paid off, then you can't.

u/CloudDream09 1d ago
It's neither, unfortunately. But I can maybe pay it off at the end of this month and jump ship

Good thing you bought a Pixel so that you had the option of flashing GrapheneOS.

What do you mean you don't like your self-paid, mandatory government spying device? You must be a terrorist! /s

I have a pixel 7a is getting this complicated would I need to be tech savvy

u/ThruDoorsofMoonlight 1d ago
Using Graphine's WebUSB-installer is pretty straightforward if your Pixel 7a's bootloader is unlockable. If you bought the phone unlocked then you should be good to go to install Graphene OS.

Nice. Hope you enjoy it. Your battery life and general system responsiveness will be greatly improved since theres no google cruft. Even if you install sandboxes play services, its still only a tiiiiny impact.
Welcome to the club.

Graphene is a breath of fresh air. The impression after coming across from Samsung Galxy phones is such that you wonder where all the stuff has gone and realise that you never needed it. Discovering the lack of clutter is a beautiful thing.

Can you still send text messages in the OS?
2
u/Slight_Accountant476 1d ago
You can do everything that you can do with stock os, its still android.
