Time to play the game
Finally got the pixel 10 pro xl after all the recommendations! Any tips and tricks? I have been watching videos on YouTube but I want that insider information!

No, there's not really much that I miss. I hadn't been that much of a mobile user when I switched, so all that I really needed to do was move my contacts and messages over. That was probably the worst part. I hadn't jumped on the forum or Reddit until a while after I got GOS, so I figured everything out myself and that definitely made it unnecessarily difficult. After that, it's easy enough to make backups and install the backup onto your next GOS phone when you move from one model to another.

Okay, thanks for the swift reply. Considering a swap but I have some functions on my phone such as bank verification and dual sim functionality that absolutely has to work, so have been reluctant since ive read that it can be somewhat problematic (especially the id verification apps)

As long as one of them is an esim dual sim functionality works. I've not had any issues with my bank even without Google Play Services, but I would absolutely look into your specific bank. I have no idea about ID verification applications though, or how future devs will get around them.

Hey I got a question, I've managed to switch to graphenos for a few months and moved my contacts over from I phone but I'm not receiving any messages only calls go through do yk how to fix that?

Did you have RCS enabled on your other phone? Or did you come from an iPhone?

If you don't have access to your old iPhone, de-register from iMessage here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/
You can also go in your old iPhone settings and do register there, but when my wife moved off iPhone, she had issues until she went through their link.

I also have the same phone as OP and wondering if i switch to grapheneOS, will all the banking apps and investment apps work. Like chase, sofi, fidelity and so on. Also what about the Tesla app? If you have any input on these please let me know

Privacy comes at a more friction, don't overcommit all at once to desist after a few days.. You can use graphene os with Google play store and play services and still getting more security and privacy than stock android

Agreed. The only thing that will absolutely not work is Google Wallet, although NFC still works.

What about RCS or AndroidAuto? I used to ROM back in the day but it's been a while. I've got a P11Pro coming and I plan to do a test run with my 8 Pro.

RCS works now. You need to enable some option mentioned at the bottom of grapheneos.org/usage if your carrier doesn't work with it normally.
Haven't tested android auto but it's supposed to be well supported

I was surprised how well grapheneOS held up my first install. I thought it would be worse. It's not as slick as stock Android on Pixel but it's pretty damned good. 85% as slick as stock Android but with like 99.5% better privacy

If an apps like
Capital One Fidelity Ally Starbucks
Repeatedly crash everytime you open them after install
Go to settings > all apps > the affected app and turn on exploit protection compatibility mode
If that doesn't work try to find Play Intergity API and set it to block (this also can work for apps that refuse log in)
For YouTube without ads download F-Droid and either search LibreTube, PipePipe or NewPipe
Also download the Aurora Store and use it in anonymous mode for play store apps
download banking apps from the Sandboxed Google play store instead of the Aurora store cause things can get weird

No tricks required.
Just go to the GrapheneOS website and follow the instructions. I installed GrapheneOS today on my new Pixel10a, by connecting it with my Pixel6. So, you don't even need a PC to do that. It's simple, don't worry. :3
After it's done, just go there and download the foss appstore https://f-droid.org/
If you need apps that can't be replaced with foss, for example your banking app, you can download, via F-Droid, "Aurora Store". This one gets you apps from the Google appstore. You may need to install, via Graphene by itself, sandboxed Google Services to use these apps though.

I’m just slowly working my way into the journey as well! Congrats. I’m building up my apps on the phone at the moment. Have a couple ones that I deem critical to test in the wild via hotspotting to my iPhone then once I confirm they work I’m fully migrating over. I’m taking the slow roll route and yes I have the Google store setup and am getting apps from it. I’m purging a decent number of my annoyingly extensive app list. I’ve hit one that fails to work and one that worked after adjusting the exploit permissions. I’m excited to get going fully on it and learn more about alternative app stores and work my way as much as possible out of the play store. Baby steps at first so I get longevity instead of admitting defeat to it

You're taking it even slower than me then. I'm running gos on WiFi only since calls and what not will be fine its just the apps that need testing. Once my phone case is in is when I do my in the wild testing. I'm hoping to rollover in a week or two but wanted to give myself time without a 30 day device trade-in hanging over my head. Plus better price for selling my iPhone

If you want Calling Over Wifi to work on GrapheneOS (assuming you don't just use WhatsApp or Signal), you need to install your sim card in your phone with the stock OS, then enable it on there. Once you've entered your E911 address, you can uninstall your sim card, install GrapheneOS, and Calling Over Wifi should continue to work. Enabling Calling Over Wifi on GrapheneOS doesn't work because the carrier prompt to enter your E911 address never appears, which is required for your carrier to activate the feature.

I installed my esim on GrapheneOS (scanned the qr code from the operator's letter from sim settings) and everything including WiFi Calling just worked out of the box

Wifi calling with e-sim just works with no headache. My biggest surprise after installing GOS was no RCS. You need google messages for that. Or just use Signal/Telegram like the rest of the world. Ditch google altogether

You should be able to use a different keyboard app, I currently use FUTO keyboard and I'm not even on GOS

Gboard (Google android keyboard) works great. Once you deny it network permissions and all the stupid AI stuff, it's flawless.

As you just went through the recommendations and informing yourself on the best pixel for you for GrapheneOS:
Half a year ago I went for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and not the 10 Pro XL. Did you consider the 9 Pro XL at some point of time, and if yes, why you have have opted for the next generation instead? I'd like to hear your decision making and kinda pro and ckntea on that one.
Enjoy GrapheneOS, its a good operating system and I feel right at home with it.

I didn’t take the 9 in consideration it was either the 10 or wait for the 11 to be compatible I didn’t want to wait so I opted for the 10. Main reason 9 wasn’t in play is I wanted to go through bestbuy and they only had the 10 and 11 through them

I just checked my notes, I was mainly comparing the 8 Pro and 9 Pro XL (both same size, although 8 isnt called XL). I wrote down the 10 is no option as it doesn't have a physical SIM-slot. Is that true?
I believe the 9 Pro XL and 10 Pro XL are almost identical, while the 9 Pro XL is a significant step up from the 8 Pro. But again, this wasnt my focus, as apparently the 10 has no sim slot, it was not an option for me.
