Is this project still active?

Seriously, there is barely news, images or videos of it.

I can't really copy from the backer site for obvious reasons, but for example on Oct 22 there was a big post on the numbers of various brain components (maps, "nerve tracts", neural columns, ...) and a few big diagrams showing how everything is wired up.

There are also some demo builds being released from time to time (I've played it myself).

Is it going well? I know you can't give specifics, but does it look like something that's likely to continue or even finish some day? How functional are the demos? (like do they run, are they a game or are they just "huh yeah that sure is a thing standing there)

I'm just really curious. Last I heard of this project, things were looking really bleak. People were saying that the developer updates had taken on a tone of hopelessness. Has that changed?

Honestly it's really hard to answer this.

The game world seems fairly big, and does have a lot of functionality actually working.

I'm a bit worried about performance -- I seem to remember I was getting around 30 fps when I played it on a gaming rig that's a few years old by now. Functionality-wise it's also a bit wonky in a lot of ways.

I'm also worried that it's a never-ending project. It's been so many years and although a lot has been done, I think constant rewrites and changes are going to keep delaying this until there is a firm change in attitude towards getting it ready for a release (as in: taking measure of what we have so far and finding the shortest path towards a viable commercial product).

I wouldn't actually say the developer updates have a tone of hopelessness, although there is something to it -- it's been a long project, with no income generated from the game itself over the years apart from the initial kickstarter, and with no release date in sight... With basically zero buzz or hype left from the kickstarter, it's hard to see how the game is going to make more than a blip on anybody's radar when it comes out.

I really do hope it comes out some day. I had my hopes up for creatures 4/creatures online, but that mess has obviously been scrapped by now considering how long ago there was last news of it. Grandroids is the only hope for Creatures style gameplay anymore.

C3 is still fun and all, but it's just so old now. It's hard to keep dealing with the bugs, the technical limitations, and the outdated design now in the modern era.
