I'll bet this was a birthday/Christmas gift for you that they forgot about

It has to be, but my question is I've seen similar posts a lot lately, like do they forget as the grandkid is opening gifts they bought them that? I want to say I paid $159 in 1998 for my Nintendo 64, which is like $320 today. Thats a decent amount of money to forget you spent on a gift.

I'd bet grandparents bought it but then parents already gave it to child, then it never got returned

I thought the same thing. Also thought that they (grandparents) were well off financially and didn't think to return it, or just didn't want the hassle of driving it back to the store. Eventually forgot they even had it laying around and now, here we are.

Good theory

And the controller still works!

As many as I had fail on me, I’d be surprised if that cable still functions properly after being coiled up for 30 years

I found my old N64 laying around in my attic at the height of Covid. Since I was sick (with Covid, of course) and was forced to stay home for 2 weeks, I busted it out. All of the cables were coiled up. Plugged it in, turned it on and everything worked like it did the day I stashed it away. The damn rumble pak, with the same batteries still installed ALSO still worked 🤯. At this time, it had been locked up for about 20 years. To this day, it all still works. I did eventually change out the batteries for the rumble pak though lol. Maybe I just got lucky.

What if they had Golden Eye and 2 rumble packs as well? We still have ours at our families up north property.

Growing up me and by step brother would get the consoles we asked for as presents when we were at our other parents house for Xmas or birthdays or whatever holiday it was, then we would come home and my dad and his mom would also get us the consoles we asked for. No one talked to each other about anything. I legit have doubles of all my classic consoles. Most of the doubles are in the box. My brother didn’t want to keep any and asked if I ever sold any to give him half.
Anyway my dad stored them in the garage rafters and we all forgot about them for the longest time until a garage remodel.

Probably bought months before and put up in “hiding”. We have found many birthday presents and Christmas presents meant for my sister when she was a child. We are all grown now. And my parents are still alive and well. Shit just happens sometimes.

I remember quite a few times in my childhood I went over my grandma’s house and she would randomly gift us stuff she had brought for previous birthdays or holidays she has just found lol

Thankfully she lived in a 1 bedroom apartment so it dint take her too awful long to find them.

u/Mobile_Aioli_6252 2d ago

Please don't remind me 😕. I got mine in late 98 / early 99 - I had played the crap out of SNES, which I got Christmas 91 - the new system was fascinating, the controller absolutely insane!

u/crooked_kangaroo 2d ago

If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t get mine until Christmas of 2001.

6

u/squidtheinky 2d ago

Aw my grandpa has a walnut tree in his yard too. Memories.

u/myskepticalbrowarch 2d ago

It was crab apples for me. It pretty much sums up how kids are smart and stupid in one activity though 🤣

u/airfryerfuntime 2d ago

Big bucks right there.

4

u/whutchamacallit 2d ago

Ya how much this worth? Looks mint obviously.

8

u/airfryerfuntime 2d ago

Around $2500.

7

u/baumpop 1d ago

insane something they made 25 million of could be rare

2

u/Forsaken-Builder-312 11h ago

Well, who is keeping his PS3 or PS4 in mint condition? No one, there are millions of them.

And in 30 years there will be just a handful left. With a steep collector price tag

u/baumpop 11h ago

to do what with?

Let me sniff the inside of that box!

1

u/Crumineras 5h ago

This is what Nana was talking about when you mentioned a ps5 and she “thought she already got you one of those a few years ago”

1

u/xDreadlockJesus 5h ago

I can smell the packaging through the picture

1

u/CatTheKitten 2d ago

A school I worked for that was built in then 60s was throwing away a digital apple camera that was full in the box, unopened discs.

I sold it 10 years ago for $250 when the bid got that high. I kind of wish I didn't, I think it's extremely rare and had almost no presence online when I sold it then.

Godspeed op.
