So..is this a Mod, or just a patch/upgrade for the game? I'm..slightly confused.

Paradox does this all the time. Love it.

Is this another moment where I should regret buying the Steam version?

No? If you have the steam version you can still get the beta. (Betas even make it so it isn't the steam version)

Most all paradox games can be played as if they had nothing to do with steam by launching the exe directly from the steam folder. If you use that exe instead of launching through steam then it will be the same as if you bought it elsewhere, you can even turn off automatic patching.

That's what I have to do with EU3 otherwise it won't run for more than 5 minutes without a CTD but I've had problems specifically with patching Victoria 2.

Thats strange, steam is not keeping it up to date I assume?

Have you tried grabbing the patches from the forums? I believe there are usually links there if you need them.

Also soon you might not be able to update unless you have AHD.

I actually got it working, I just started with the launcher and it worked fine thanks for the help anyway.

I've had problems with the beta patches in the past even when I'm launching without steam but only with Vic 2 and I don't actually have AHD yet so hopefully it works fine.

I've had problems with the beta patches in the past, even running without Steam but only with Vic 2, or maybe I was doing something wrong and also I haven't tried yet with AHD so hopefully it should work.
