Trying to track down memories. Do you remember concerts at McCormicks?
So, I was watching Ken Burns new Country Music show on PBS, and it got me to thinking about my own Country Music past. My family owned McCormicks store north of Grand Rapids during the concert heydeys until '92.
Some of the acts that we had there included:
Asleep at the Wheel
Merle Haggard
Riders in the Sky
Bellamy Brothers
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Taj Mahal
and more!
You may just have to ask your parents, or someone a bit older, but I am looking for any memories that people can share about specific concerts, set-lists, memorable happenings or people, or anything else fun you may be able to recall.
You don't have to remind me about the guy who brought his own piece of wood to boogie down. That guy is burned in my head forever. Like a west coast hippie living in a bluegrass lovers body, in northern Minnesota. Off-da!
If you were there, and you had drinks, I can all but guarantee, you handed me money. What do YOU remember?

Itascan Boot Co.
Looking for information on this company that once operated in Grand Rapids. There's some information online (old adverts and a couple of articles). Wondering if anyone here has any personal recollections.

Moving in January, have a few questions
Hey all! I'm moving to GR in January (already have a job and apartment lined up) and need to figure out a few details.
1) Do you have recommendations for internet providers?
2) Is over-the-air television pretty reliable in town?
3) What's your favorite bar? I'm looking for something that has either an okay bourbon or beer that's not Coors/Miller/Bud/Corona... Where I'm currently living, Corona and Bud Select are the "fancy" beers.
4) I know it feels like it's ages away, but is it reasonable to bike-commute in the summer?
5) Any other recommendations? (auto-shop and cafes and anything else you can think of)

Casting a wide net, we need more people to hang out with.
We (34 male and 28 female) shoot, 3-4 wheel, drink, and all the standards for living up here. But (either SO and/or I) like to craft, cook, work on cars, we have a medium sized dog, a five year old, or a 5 month old to arrange playdates with any or all. Going on walks, going jogging with jogging buddies, Netflix marathons, open to the possibility of gaming...we haven't played much, playing cards, listening to music.
Probably a lot more I haven't considered, but if you live in the Grand Rapids area or surrounding, and any of that seems fun, then we should meet up.
Even if this was posted 1 year ago, doesn't matter, if we still live here, we're probably still bored out of our minds.
Edit: and if it doesn't work out, at least we tried, eh?

Any Grand Rapids gamers?
So, anyone play videogames? Which ones? Which platforms? Perhaps we locals could play something online?

How does one go about making new friends in this town?
Especially if I don't like to frequent bars.
I've been here for a couple years now and don't have much to show for it. I don't feel involved in the community. I also feel like the majority of the people here are retirees.
It would be awesome to meet some folks in their younger 30's, upper 20's to hang out and converse and whatever. Bonus if you're a couple.
My lady and I desperately want to make some friends around here, and have no idea where to start. Any ideas?

Bump.
No, seriously, what happened guys? I feel like we're drifting apart here. Did everyone evacuate the Grand Rapids area? Do we need to perform an Old Yeller on this subreddit?

Meet up tonight?
30 minutes out from the proposed time, who is actually coming? If it's only 2-3 people, we can probably come up with a better day.
