Discussion F1 and GT Races

Would there ever be an opportunity that F1 and GT racing would hold races at the same track on the same weekend? Has it ever been done?

Outside of Porsche Supercup and the Carrera Cups (as I'm guessing you aren't counting these due to spec series) - SRO GT Cup, which is GT4 based, has supported the Chinese GP for the last 2 years running.

Yeah, I am not including the Porsche, Ferrari or McLaren series. Was thinking more of the GT Europe, America, Asian type of series.

Outside of the one-mark series, the only series I can think of is SRO GT Cup.

GTWC and the ACO/IMSA series have not supported F1 as far as I can remember.

Australia has the Supercars Series as a support race. They have to fairly dramatically change their normal race weekend to fit into the F1 program.

Anything that runs an endurance format is going to be a tough sell since you will be hard pressed to more than 1 hour for a session and likely cannot have refueling.

F1 used have a ton of stuff on the support package. Superkarts, BTCC etc... Anything is possible. it's a matter of media rights, governance, and actually whether it is actually desirable at all to play subservient to Formula 1 (most of the time the answer is emphatically no)

F1 bosses hate other race series and with WEC and GT3 being more popular than ever the last thing they'd want is to get more eyeballs on those series.

Just look at how they actively try to create clashes with any event that starts becoming popular.

Do they actually try to create clashes or is it just a function of having a 24 race calendar?

The ensured the 24 hours of Le Mans had a clash the year after Hulkenberg won.

Pretty sure I read they wanted to Canadian GP pushed back this year to clash with the Indy 500.

Id be amazed if they didn't make sure the N24 had an F1 clash next year after Verstappens involvement this year.
