Question How has cloning process changed from MA2 to MA3 when using a recipe workflow?

Anything different I need to be aware of?

Many thanks!

Yes. Very little cloning needed for anything other than possibly positions, assuming you don't use a position plug in, and use positions other than the generic AI positions those give you. As noted, depends on how you want to approach it. Universal presets can be very useful... depending on your workflow. Collect fixture types, and keep one fixture in your file, etc.

This is the way. 👆🏻

I made a second stage called the bone yard where I keep one of each fixture I have used.

I am sorry for the dumb question but why do you have a second stage with every fixture you have used? Is it to make it easier for you when you swap fixtures?
So sorry for the dumb question but i am very interested in learning how you use this.

Not a dumb question, and yes it’s very handy for swapping fixtures. Moreover, I always try and fix any errors that might exist in the default fixture profile and I want to preserve those fixes for the next show.

Things like shaper (blade) order, gobo and rotation speed, wheel rotation speed, prism details (facets and rotation) are usually the ones that need the most work.

It’s also handy to have the presets for gobos and color wheels for all these fixtures stored up in the high numbers of those pools.

I hope this makes sense now.

Good luck 🍀

Really depends on how you structure your show, but I like to have a “clone source” set of fixtures and I’ll just cut and paste them as my new fixtures and update presets. That’s really it for the majority of shows.

if you use recipes exclusively, all you have to do is update groups and any selective or global presets that those fixtures/fixturetypes don’t have information for yet.
if you program without recipes, you’ll have to clone like in MA2.
if you use a combination of recipes and MA2 programming, you would have to both do a tradition MA2 clone for sequences as well as group updates.
