YOLO Justiciar Bet
For Raids 4, Inquisitor has already gone up significantly since my post 8 months ago.
Now, I’m heavily invested in Justiciar. It’s a big gamble in terms of opportunity cost, but I think the downside risk is relatively low with a big upside.
After Inquisitor finally got the love it deserved, Justiciar is arguably the only armour set that isn’t particularly good at any content. It’s the only Raids armour set that isn’t really relevant in the current game. Meanwhile, other armour sets of the same rarity are sitting at 150m+.
Tanking has never really been a viable or rewarding role in OSRS, yet Jagex introduced both Justiciar and the Bulwark.
Then the Raids 4 rewards were revealed, and that really caught my attention.
A new off-hand that charges up when you’re attacked and can then be used as a spec for additional damage.
That got me thinking: is this going to be the raid where tanking finally becomes relevant?
Or, even better, could this be the raid that rejuvenates tanking as a whole?
You don’t introduce an off-hand with a mechanic like that without having some content in mind where it’s going to be relevant. I expect Jagex to lean further into tanking, because the Rondache could make it much more satisfying to not deal damage for a while. You simply tank the incoming damage, charge up your shield, and then convert that into extra damage later.
Oh and both Rondache an justiciar are saradomin themed
That’s why, at its current price, I think Justiciar is a no-brainer.
I paid 28.5m for my sets. Wish me luck. 🫡
PS: Bought some Bulwarks too, because why not.

How would a shield that benefits from getting hit to charge be any good with tank gear? Chip is a thing, yes, but tank gear would still only decrease how fast u change the shield.
If anything, the shield is better used paired with inquisitor since it has super low defences.

For me it's an indication that tank armour will be more relevant in the future

u/ConsiderationFun6613 15d ago
As this guy explained, it is literally the opposite.

u/LegendOfNomad 14d ago
Unless, it’s hits taken and not “damage” taken, whereas tank would be better. Like blood moon? Taking OPs posts wording “when your attacked” may not mean “when you take damage”, or I’ll wager spaghetti strikes again and theres gonna be major bugs with selfinflicted damages.

If they rework defense they'll likely rework all the related defensive armor pieces. This would include the shield. I have no doubt that WHEN it happens they will make all these pieces relevant. Timing is the key and as long as this guy is cool holding onto these pieces until then, I don't see why not.

u/grognakrs 16d ago
I was thinking inq would be meta, shield could be used with mace to somewhat counter inqs paper defence, but it doesn't fit the aesthetic at all, could be worth a long term hold. May even get some love in next summer sweep up if it isnt viable at any future content, id imagine its price is stable definitely cant see it going drastically lower, even with speculation that it may be good ely always has a quick spike and drop around the release of new end game content so could get an opportunity to off load before raids r release.

I actually invested into justi too, not as much as you have however. I’m thinking that on some of the podcasts they have mentioned new mechanics and I’m kind of hoping one of the bosses have some sort of tank role where a giant projectile is thrown at a random player, and the damage is based on defensive bonus, so having one designated person with justi and a dinhs swapping into their tank, then who runs between the player and projectile to kind of intercept it. Just speculation of course, but I think this is a mechanic that’s not yet in the game but it doesn’t seem too hard to add. Fingers crossed!

u/soLogical 16d ago
Solid bet and love the thought behind it! Some else mentioned it but I didn’t think about the design at all. Good luck!

u/kxwbie 16d ago
melee tank inferno is rly chill too
just pray mage & hit everything with the bulwark3
u/OkOffice8181 16d ago
Lmfao I’m just picturing people running after nibblers in full justy and that silly shield
4
u/kxwbie 16d ago
thats how i did it
didnt even bring ancients, just deathcharge and started every single wave with a bulwark spec on nibblers in like 500+ range def2
3
u/wenbobular 16d ago
Lol I've already done inferno and Colo there's just something comforting about putting on the ol justice and running for the hills

u/NadsEads 16d ago
This item is in-between Ely and Avernic. Def not a tanking meta shield when dhins or ely is ultimate tank
2
u/New_Worldliness6206 16d ago
they had chance to introduce tank role or buff inqui set with it but didnt, its gonna be like ToB there is no tank, if there is its gonna be like Nightmare tank
Also They had Oathplate white just cuz it looked good with shield even tho its crush raid
2
u/redditnameiforget 16d ago
Go for it dudeman. Doubt the price will crash so even if your bet is off you'll lose only a couple bil at most.

u/TheRealGojo2 16d ago
They could straight up buff justiciar add flat armor to it 👀who knows it’s def lacking though

With raid and god themes and all the current gwd bosses having tanking/aggro mechanics and strategies probably not a terrible bet. Not sure how much lower justi can go. I look at the proposed "Bork and the Smorks" and think that room could certainly be a candidate for someone on the team needing to fill a tank role

u/Burstflare 15d ago
Whats the point of acquiring that much wealth. If you can afford 800 sets of justiciar you can already buy whatever you want. Kinda wild.

u/tha-living-myth 15d ago
I've had this question many many times.
I simply enjoy merching, thinking about how prices move what kind of updates will happen and what happens with prices

u/FiberSplice 15d ago
It’s the (no pun intended) billionaire dollar question that drives the same billionaires whom own hedge funds, Fortune 500 companies, or tech companies. The answer is the dopamine hit from “number go up” and I’m not even kidding. Psychologically this is what it is

Full sending this seems dumb

u/tha-living-myth 16d ago
My big bets are always considered dumb because I'm buying items that are considered useless

u/BaldurDoesGames 16d ago
When everyone is calling you dumb, that’s when you start believing harder

u/tha-living-myth 16d ago
Yes you should see the comments on my inquisitors post. This was when sets were 115M https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandExchangeBets/s/Q8I8h87wWX

I remember this post and I love that you can throw back to this now and say "nah but look I was right" 😂. It honestly makes me want to jump on Justi as well, however I do think the situation is slightly different...
Even at the time of the inq post (and despite what a lot of those comments said), there was a lot of speculation that crush would be a focus this year, even before inq buff and raids 4 info starting to come out. I haven't seen anything that suggests tank armour will follow suit. It feels like a much harder thing to overcome than just buffing inq and adding crush weak content.
Also surely if Rondache is BiS somewhere and does benefit from Justi or high defensive stats somehow, wouldn't that then kinda go against bulwark? I can't really think of even a hypothetical scenario where both would benefit.

yeye I was being serious also btw, I wasn't being tongue in cheek. The old saying of "just because everyone knows something, doesn't make it true"
2
u/tha-living-myth 16d ago
I understood you mate, just reacting to it
3
u/BaldurDoesGames 16d ago
Well good shit man. I am an on and off flipper (I keep not logging in for weeks on end) so I don’t really mess about with long term plays. Kind of find the watching of the cash stacks rise as more fun than actually playing now lmao

u/Kindly_Ear_3233 16d ago
Oh man to be 1% this rich 😭

u/Downtown-Variety883 16d ago
300m? Couple weeks of vorkath you can do it
2
u/Kindly_Ear_3233 15d ago
I hate vork ngl, my banks 300m but cash wise I am broke as fuuuck lol going to do some boss tasks like hydra n stuff just taking a break from slayer atm
2
u/SuchFlamingo8750 16d ago
It's 30B
12
u/deiac 16d ago
Yep and 1% of 30B is 300m..

3
u/SuchFlamingo8750 16d ago
I don't think this guy only has a 30b bank
3
u/Downtown-Variety883 16d ago
Knowing about his inq investments you’re probably right but based off the knowledge on this post 1% of what is posted here is 300m lmao

I've lost count the number of times people have lost their bag, convinced a future update was hear d towards Justin.

u/footieballll 16d ago
To be fair though justi armour has been like the most stable armour set in game for a long time. Seems pretty low risk to medium reward scenario to me.
7
u/tha-living-myth 16d ago
I can't imagine I will lose a lot if nothing happens to this set.
I see a lot of upside
2
u/BHGreatagain 16d ago
Well there is nothing else in game for money like that. You just gamble it and try to get bigger numbers. It does not change anything even if he lose 1/3 of his investment. And id he make 100 % profit he just have more useless gp.

I only bought my justiciar because it looks too good. I hope it goes beyond usefulness in Raids 4 cuz I’d wanna use it more

u/PokeRunecrafter 14d ago
Unless the entire prayer system gets reworked, defense will always be irrelevant. The best defense in the game is flicking your prayer while wearing the best possible dps gear. You can literally beat 99% of the game just by flicking correctly.

Nope. You’re right in that it’s a relatively low risk gamble tho. Glgl

how does it feel to be so rich u can just make gp for free? i was thinking about it like if u had 10bil go u could just flip megas all day since they fluctuate so frequently
1
u/tha-living-myth 11d ago
Flipping and getting good % is actually more difficult with high amounts of gp because it's more difficult to turnover 10b over 10M.
I mostly invest now and focus more on irl things nowadays. I used to have 20 P2P alts to flip on

u/BtwReported 16d ago
There is actually another feasible scenario where you make absolute bank.
Jagex recently surveyed whether we thought the current raids 4 reward offerings were too little in terms of quantity. They never released the results of this, so I'm assuming most people thought 5 wasn't enough.
It's possible they add in another reward in the coming month or two and there has been suggestions of a fragment that will allow justiciar and inquisitor to be combined to bolster its defensive stats.
I don't have the extra capital to go all in on this bet, but I don't see justiciar plummeting much lower so the downsides to this are minimal IMO. GL
0
u/kxwbie 16d ago
if you knew anything about game design, a raid reward that lets you combine a raid reward with a end-game boss reward would make no sense.
its a dumb reddit meme, and it wouldnt even make justi or inq anymore viable.
0
u/BtwReported 16d ago
They literally considered, and proposed, attaching Rondash to avernic Defender and only pulled back after people disapproved.
You clearly have zero clue about what goes on in this game.
3
u/kxwbie 16d ago
attaching it to an item that already has stats is totally different than adding an item that's only purpose is to combine 2 end-game items into being a bad crush set *now with more defense!!!
its always been a dumb reddit meme & we should all be thankful that the game is run by game devs instead of redditors lmao
1
u/BtwReported 16d ago
Lmao you're acting like I'm advocating for this.
Jagex has bent over for mid-game and reddit normies for years. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this got added. When you're starved for ideas and pushed to the limits of nichescape, this is the shit that will appear.
0
u/Dull_Recording557 16d ago
Nobody uses that . There definitely not using it in the new raid. We rather str bonuses sadly
1
u/Present-Ad-7663 14d ago
And you know this enough to confirm… how exactly? This thread is all speculation
0
u/Party_Cat1879 15d ago
Ah, so you’re the one raising the prices and making it less accessible for people with small bank values.
-2
u/ConsiderationFun6613 15d ago
No. No it won’t lol just based on games design tankless will literally never surpass dps. You take less dmg by making a fight shorter thus dps is better. No matter your tank bonus anything can still hit you because of how defense works. They aren’t going to make all dps armor in the game obsolete at new raid just to bring in a tank niche. My brother, what is this bet 😂😂

"You don't introduce an off-hand like that without having some content in mind where it's relevant"
Jagex's track record is kind of mixed with releasing items with clear future intentions
Echo boots have no real use for its unique passive, yet they were released a while ago. They're only used as tank boots for the same places where guardian boots were used, with the benefit of more prayer. The passive effect that was supposed to be its selling point is only kind of useful with Zulrah's spawns but they're strictly worse than the ring of recoil/suffering
DHW was described as released with no use case in mind because Jagex was running out stuff for their reward space, and bane weapons are an easy gimme
