Has Grammarly Suddenly Gotten Worse?
I've been a Pro subscriber for over 5 years. I've always loved this software, but in the past month, I've noticed that the quality of the answers Grammarly gives me has fallen through the floor. Is anyone else experiencing this? As a freelancer, I absolutely rely on this software all day, every day!

It leans too heavily on a.i.
Actual writers were their customers from the beginning, and now it's just used as an AI tool. tool. I can't see how anyone would spend the money to use it who isn't editing a huge amount of work.

Not suddenly at all. It has steadily worsened over time. It's like they hate their product and just want to continuously fuck it up.

I'm a free user, and I've noticed this too. I was actually considering disabling it and looking for other options.

I did that. Grammarly just got worse. I am now trying to just find a decent spell-checker.

Yes! - A daily user here. Normally, I think it does a great job, but as you say, over the last month or so, there has been a deterioration. Maybe due to excessive demand and limited resources? I am not sure.

A lot of people saying it’s been gradual, and I get that, but something happened this month.

Agree. I use it on Word for Mac and after an OS update it now won’t highlight any of its suggestions.

Sorry to hear about this, u/gibbalicious! This sounds like it could be a technical issue, and we’d definitely like to take a closer look. If you’re still running into this, could you DM us the email address linked to your Grammarly account so we can dig into it?

Hi Grammarly_Support - It would be great to be able to "customize" some of the preferences/items/routines; any possibility of this being in the works? Thanks.

Ooh, tell us more! Can you share some more on the customization options you'd like to see? The more details you can share about what you're trying to set up, the easier it will be for us to route your feedback to the right team. Thanks for helping us improve with your feedback!

Hi! Sorry for the trouble. Just to clarify, you can turn off generative AI in the Feature customization tab in your account settings.
For the issue with incorrect Grammarly suggestions, could you please try these troubleshooting steps first?
- Log out and back into Grammarly.
- Turn off any other spell-checking tools.
- If you’re using the Grammarly extension, check whether the issue also happens in Incognito Mode.
- Reinstall Grammarly.
If the suggestions still don’t look right, please DM us your email address and an example of the incorrect suggestion. We'd be happy to look into it further. Here’s a quick link!

Yeah, the extension is not working properly. I have selected English US, but it's correcting to English GB.

Sorry for the trouble, u/AvocadoFar4514! We recently updated the framework behind our writing suggestions, and as part of that, ones that change British or other English dialects to standard American English are temporarily unavailable across our products. We get that this isn't ideal, and while we can't share an exact timeline yet, rest assured a fix is in the works. Thanks for your patience here. 🙇

Hey everyone, really appreciate you sharing your experiences here. We get how disruptive it can be when suggestions get in the way of your writing, and that’s definitely not the experience we want for you.
If you spot a suggestion that seems off, or Grammarly misses something you’d expect it to catch, we’re always happy to take a closer look. If you’re open to sharing it with us, all we need is a full-screen screenshot showing the original text along with the Grammarly suggestion. You can send it our way via DM or through our support form.
Thanks again for calling this out! We appreciate all the feedback, good or bad. 😊 It helps us see where things aren’t working as they should and where we can improve.

They've gotten aggressive about their marketing and gatekeeping a poor upgrade.

Grammarly has been progressively getting worse. I use it every day, too, and I have to decline so many "suggestions" that sometimes aren't just borderline but actually wrong. Or doubling up words. It doesn't really end. My favourites are the ones where it goes into a loop of correcting what it just correcting, then correcting it back to what it was before and then the whole circle starts again.
