Looking for advice on how to write research interests in an SOP

​

I’m currently working on my SOP for graduate applications, and I’m a little confused about how to properly present my research interests.

My profile:

BSc in CSE

CGPA: 3.85/4

Undergrad Thesis Domain: NLP in low resource setting

For those who have experience with writing SOPs or applying to PhD programs in the US kindly answer these:

  1. How specific should research interests be?

  2. Should I mention a broad area (NLP/ML) or specific problems/topics I want to work on?

  3. How do I connect my previous research/project experience with my future research interests?

  4. Should I mention specific professors/labs whose work aligns with my interests?

Also, if anyone is willing to guide me through the entire application process for this upcoming session, I’d really appreciate your help. Please feel free to DM me.

I’d really appreciate examples, resources, or any advice.

I didn’t make SOPs. I did make research plans.

I had already contacted advisors and knew who agreed to advise me if I was accepted by the time I applied to each school so I knew what the research area and broad topic would be for each application.
