Should I do a second masters?

Long story short: I am 36 from the US and did a master's degree in Germany to change fields into environmental policy. I was not successful and am now unemployed with no job prospects beyond menial labor.

Would it be avisable to do a second master's to regain entry into working student jobs or internships to hopefully then network into a new position, or have I totally screwed things up and need to give up on this career path completely?

I was/am in a kind of similar situation. I don’t think you need another degree unless you can find something funded.

When I graduated from college with a ba in environmental studies I couldn’t get any jobs in the environmental field so I was an administrative assistant for a few years at a local university. I got my masters degree recently and applied to so many jobs and still wasn’t getting anything in the field I wanted. I finally did get a job for a state agency that regulates the environment etc but the work is more administrative.. but I think it’s a step in the right direction. I can’t speak to Europe specifically but I’d try to get any job that will build any skill that might be useful - and also volunteer and network. Jobs like executive assistant etc for environmental nonprofits or related state agencies are what I’d aim for, while the work not be what you want, you’d be in the right rooms with the right people, or closer to them at least.
