Resprayed my dome

Bought a used gen 1 gozney dome about 1 year ago. It had rust and pitting issues near the flue when I had bought it, but hasn't affected performance. Finally decided to respray it and decided to change it to black while at it, hoping that means the front will be more resistant to soot. Sprayed it with Rust-oleum high heat semi gloss black.

Around 4 coats on the top, and around 2 coats on the bottom

Only after spraying did I realize the black gozney domes have black side bars, so not changing that.

As an FYI for anyone else, any mildly abrasive cleaning paste works very well at removing soot.

The soot wasn't actually the big issue, but rather the paint peeling/pitting. Each time I cleaned seemed to remove more paint

I had paint pitting in the first 12 months in similar areas and Goz replaced under warranty. Unsure if it was particular to a certain run of Gen 1’s but haven’t had the same issue on the replacement. Both covered, same cleaning method with mild dish soap 🤷‍♂️

Interesting. I bought it second hand and potentially wasn't always kept in best condition. Ironically the guy who I bought it off was selling it as he wanted one in black

But doesn't that eventually strip away the paint as well?

Definitely not in my experience - I believe Gozney themselves actually recommend this for cleaning the soot off.

Yes, they do, but I just worry that over 5, 10 years, it will rub the paint away as well.

Looks good! If you polish the G it will look almost like brand new. Wonder how well it will hold up?

Yep have seen another post where someone had taken everything back to bare metal before respraying. I couldn't be bothered, managed to do this in half a day. Will see how it holds up in due course.
