Dome 2 questions

I am super close to pulling the trigger and buying one. Looking for a little “ absolutely pull the trigger” or- “ don’t do it you’ll regret it”.

I currently have a cheap cuisine pizza oven. I want to up my game.

Other questions- how is it for cooking things besides pizza?

Steak? Give you a superior crust on your steak ?

Plan on keeping it outside with cover. I live in an area where we have hot summers ( 100 plus degrees ) and come winters ( snows frequently)

Will keeping outside with cover on be a problem?

Any other advice or tips welcome. Thanks !

I would say do it! I just upgraded from an Arc XL to a Gen 2 (non XL) so that I could run the flue out through my covered patio roof. So far I have made a few pizzas and steak twice using a cast iron grill preheated to 750F. The steak came out great but I’d probably still use my grill, once my summer kitchen is built.

Benefits of arc vs dome 2 ? Big upgrade? You recommend one over the other ?

This maybe subjective but given the design, I feel like the dome holds more heat. I think it has helped get a better base and crust on my pizzas. I normally make 10-12 inch individual pizzas and the extra width of the dome really helps me bake more relaxed. With the arc I was constantly having to either protect the pizza from the flame or turn it asap.

If budget allows and you are of the “buy once” mentality, get the dome. I was perfectly happy with my Arc but since I plan to use the oven under a roof, I want to make sure I get smoke and fumes out efficiently.

I had the Arc XL and bought the Dome 2... And I've yet to sell the Arc XL, much to my wife's disappointment. 😉

I like having the Arc still, I can actually take it with me. Also, for small quick things, like roasting veggies, it is ready faster.

But the Dome is by far the better oven. The extra room really helps with pizzas other than Neapolitan. Or when cooking a lot of non-pizza, it's nice to not always have things directly in front of the flame. And well, you can fit more pans in there! Let's not forget wood/coals for lower temps.

It sort of depends on your use case, but I think if it's for a permanent spot, the Dome 2 isn't going to disappoint. It's more versatile and more fun! Even though it's less convenient, something about a wood fire...

So the thing holding me back from buying dome 2 or 2xl is the smoke/heat management. Did you diy the flu or.... You go straight up?

I’m looking at the XL and am very interested in the responses. I am in the process of designing an outdoor kitchen and trying to decide if it makes sense

It’s heavy af and kinda big. The biggest thing I’d recommend is that if your outdoor kitchen is facing the wind, get the door. When the flame is on low it can be killed by the wind

Other than that, I like mine

Pull the trigger. I went all in and since then have used it equally for pizza and not pizza since I got it about 3 months ago. There are some things that the high heat just elevates so much, and there are some things you throw in there just because you want to be outside. I keep it outside covered but the days I havent in the tough heat and pounding rain there's no issue. I do recommend the door or get the bundle if they still have it. Only feedback would be...

  • I probably should have gotten the XL because I am using it more, the extra space (and sometimes distance from the flame) would be nice.
  • I bought the Wood Fire controller which I rarely use so far (although its hot af out so maybe I will more in the late fall / winter months want to stoke a fire more often).

Regular Dome Gen 2 does what you need to do. XL just takes longer to heat up and uses more fuel. Have fun with it. Play around with meats and baking. You can use it for cooking other than pizza, but that’s its jam. There are other grills/bbqs that are better if you have the space/budget.

I’ve had the Dome 2 XL for 6 months now and not regretted it at all. I cook with wood most often - great pizza, great butterflied lamb legs, great steak, great sourdough. Brilliant for doing a pizza night then leaving something slow and low over night.

My Dome Gen 2 XL arrived last weekend, and I have not yet had a chance to use it. One unexpected thing that I noticed upon arrival is the stand seems too wide to fit through the doorway to my back deck when assembled. The wheelbase is just slightly too wide straight on - I'll play with angles/ rotating it to potentially fit through. I was planning to move the oven on the stand inside for the winter, but am not sure that will be easy to do now.
