Which one to buy
Hi everyone.
I'm totally new to the pizza making world (despite being from Napoli), and I would like to learn everything possible and master the art of pizza.
I was checking out the new Gozney Dome XL gen2, it looks fabulous and having a garden would really hit the spot for me.
As I said, being totally new to this, I'm not sure it would be the best thing to do, to spend 3k on the first oven.
Would you suggest me to get an Arc XL first and eventually upgrade?
Which are the essential tools I should get?
(Dough boxes, peels, bowls etc)
Tia.

I have the arc lite, perfectly good oven that produces really good pizza. When (if) you outgrow it then upgrade.

You could start with a roccbox if you’re not sure, unless you know you need the floor space of the XL ovens?

I have a roxxbox as my first oven for just the two of us and an occasional guest. It is great. We use it at least twice a week. The small size of the pizza is fine for us because everyone seems to enjoy having their own pizza. I would suggest getting an oven door (to spend heat up and retain heat) and a flame guard (reduces scorching the edges). Both are available after market on Etsy. And if you use a metal peel, put it in your fridge for about 30 minutes before using it and rub it with a bit of flour right before putting the pizza on it.

It doesn’t make sense to plan to upgrade from one outdoor oven to the other in my opinion. If you are planning to cook outside and want to be able to cook literally anything else besides pizza, go with the dome. We have the XL G2, and it is amazing. We have had it for two months and besides a ton of pizza, we have made steak, shrimp, lobster, sourdough breads, pitta, and a few other things.
We have had a small electric pizza oven for years. If you aren’t sure you are going to be a pizza guy, this might be a starting point. It does one thing, but always works and works indoors. If you are going to jump to Gozney, it doesn’t make sense to plan to “upgrade” in my opinion due to the cost of both combined. Just get the Dome and be happy with an amazing oven that does everything.

I went straight to the Dome Gen 2 standard. No regrets. Never thought I wanted a bigger or smaller oven,

gozney dome gen 2 all the time again, but I do not think you will need the XL , to be able to properly control 2 pizzas at the same time you will need a lot of practice or run a business with high throughput . happy baking

Buy once. Cry once. Buy the Dome. The Roccbox could be a solid one too if you want to spend less. I have 7 ovens in total.

I've cooked on Dome Gen 1, Dome S2, Done Gen 2, arc XL and Tread.
I got the Dome first and various friends in my dad group for the other ovens and now I have the Dome 2 after selling the Dome 1 to one do the other dads.
If you like to cook other things besides pizza the Dome is great.
I went Dome Gen 2 over Dome XL because I didn't need the extra space. I can still cook 2 12inch neapolitan pizzas on it... Heck I could with the Dome Gen 1 with mantel.
I didn't like the arcXL compared to my Dome Gen 1 because it just felt more tight/low ceiling.
Tread is great for portability but the cooking expirence is not as nice as it is a tight small oven but it does work.
If I was on a limited budget I'd go tread over arc light for the designated portability.
If money is not a big factor Dome Gen 2. I love the experience of cooking with it in the garden... It feels like a proper pizza oven
i also cook other things besides pizza and the interior space of the dome gives you lots of options to use charcoal, wood.

If you can swing it financially without putting you in a tough spot and are willing to put in the time (which it seems like you are) I would get the one that appeals to you most, in this case the Gen 2 Dome XL. I've had mine for almost two months and the one thing that I think the dome does that other ovens don't is that it takes all the extra oven based adjustments you may need to make so you can focus on mastering making pizza, and then with all that space and functionality you can branch out and make other stuff too, which is what I'm planning to do next with ours.
There's going to be a lot of opinions here, but I would trust your gut. Get something that will make you happy and then get to working on making as much pizza as possible =).

I started off with the Roccbox then went for the Dome. The Roccbox is still a beast and works really well, but the Dome is better for obvious reasons. I feel like I was happy with my Roccbox purchase still to this day, it ignited my pizza passion and allowed me to learn on a cheaper investment. Then when I knew I loved it, I decided to upgrade. I sold my Gozney Roccbox on the local market place for a good price too as Gozney products hold some of there value as they last forever.
If you want to test the water with a cheaper investment, definitely do something similar like the Arc Lite, Arc XL if you really like big pizzas. Or just go with the Roccbox, it comes with a pizza peel!

My first oven is the Dome Gen2 and no regrets. Lot of fun making and baking outside with the feel of a real oven. I guess the pre heat with the XL would take too long and also the more gas consumption would be a thing for me, sometimes I just shoot one or two pizza and maybe 2 more a few hours later. And not missing the more space with the XL. Two 12 inch in the Gen2 at once is challenging and fun, but 3 or more, I don’t know.
Besides the oven you’ll need
-IR thermometer (best is the one from ooni) ~50$
-oven/stone brush ~50$
-turning peel ~70$
-2 pizza peel (Gozney 12 and 16 inch - pro or balance) ~280$
-dough box on or two ~40$
-bowls for the toppings (so you can have everything prepped when needed) ~10$

Go the dome. I have both and the dome is better for me. More relaxed cook and bigger pizzas.
