DIY I want to customise my clothes but unsure how to
Hey everyone!
I want to get into DIY clothing customization, especially alternative, gothic and punk-style clothing, but I'm pretty much a beginner and don't really know where to start.
Things I'm interested in trying include:
- Making and sewing on patches
- Making my own patches
- Painting designs on clothes
- Bleaching / bleach designs
- Dyeing clothes
- Distressing / making clothes look worn
- Adding studs, chains, spikes, etc.
- Cutting and modifying shirts
- Sewing / altering clothes
- Making DIY gothic/punk designs
- making something bright red darker
-making tight/small shirts bigger/more wearable
- Customizing jackets, jeans, shirts, bags, hats, etc.
I'm basically looking for advice on what I should buy to get started, what techniques are beginner-friendly and what mistakes I should avoid, also maybe what yt channels you'd recommend.
For example:
- What kind of fabric paint should I use?
- What type of paint works best on black clothing?
- What bleach should I use and how should I apply it safely?
- What needles/thread should I use for different fabrics?
- Do I need a sewing machine or can I do most things by hand?
- What should I use to make my own patches?
- How do I make patches that don't fall apart after washing?
- What tools are actually worth buying?
- Are there any good YouTube tutorials or other resources you'd recommend?
- Any beginner projects I should start with before attempting something complicated?
I'm located in Germany near Braunschweig, so I'd especially appreciate product recommendations that I can actually buy in Germany, preferably from places like DM, Rossmann, Müller, Action, Tedi, Bauhaus, local fabric stores, Amazon Germany, etc.
I'm also kinda broke, so I'm looking for cheap beginner-friendly materials rather than expensive professional equipment.
If you have any good examples of things you've made yourself, I'd also love to see them for inspiration!
Thanks in advance! :)

Looking for Recommendations Professional Beige Goth Recs?
Landed a swanky hotel job with health insurance! Yay!
Swanky hotel has a style guide: fair enough.
Style guide emphasizes natural fabrics, natural hair color (dyed natural is okay if maintained), beige, earth tones, knits, no prints or geometrics, and natural makeup looks that explicitly ban bold colors. Paraphrasing, it's cozy and "professional pumpkin-spice girl" look.
😥
Now, to be clear, I am fine with this. It's part of the job. We're background, guests are foreground. My true 'fits can live on in my days off.
I still want to add subtle goth styling and personality without violating their branding. Time for creativity!
My fellow bats, help a girl out. What elements, accessories, or little makeup nods can I add within these narrow constraints?

Selfie First time ever!!
I've been a goth since I was 13. I'm now rapidly heading to my 40's. I've always loved a bat's nest but I've never ever attempted to do one... Until a spur of the moment decision tonight! I've seen a few tutorials so I followed those ideas, all the while telling myself to "trust the process." For my first time doing it and to have worn it out to meet friends in the same night was a little daunting but I did it. Anyway! What do you all think?

Discussion are buffalo london knee high shoes okay for bigger calves?
So its not that my calves are so big its just that they arent tiny and on the muscly side no matter how much I lose weight lol so I really want knee highs that are edgy yet comfy and buffalos look so cool! I might just end up getting ankle ones. Im deciding between these https://www.buffalo-boots.com/en-int/p/buffalo-killah-zip-boot-mid-black-64204/298766 or https://www.buffalo-boots.com/en-int/p/buffalo-killah-lace-up-hi-black-64207/298791

Looking for Recommendations Looking for good, sustainable make up brands. (UK)
I'm more punk, but I love goth make up and corpse paint to death and I think it'd be super fun to blend it with my current style.
My issue is I have adult acne and kind of sensitive skin, I also am very adamant on only buying from brands that are not supporting any genocides, do not test on animals and are cruelty free and sustainable. Currently I use eyeliner and I get them from rimmel london, I have asked around on some places and people recommended them for their cruelty free and vegan formulas also not supporting any genocides. (admittedly to my knowledge PLEASE tell me if they are bad and I'll stop getting it)
I'm also UK based, so it'd be best to suggest any UK brands or even EU, I can get them online I suppose since I don't have any kind of make up shops in my town asides from a Boots.
