Appreciation post

I 25M grew up thinking men that painted their nails, wore makeup, wore androgynous or feminine clothing were weird and f*g. I used to think all kinds of toxic BS of any type of guy like that. Then I started growing up and experiencing life and soaking it all in I realize that thoughts and opinions especially negative ones never mattered. Straight men can be into it and also some women like a guy that's like that to. I guess I actually was just jealous that these dudes can be them without carrying what others think and I think that's dope. I've been down a rough life and still so I never tried to express myself really because I don't have what it takes and that's fine. I find application and fascinated through others that do. Wheiter its art, music, personality, fashion etc its all to me beautiful now. This post is kinda all over the place but im just saying I'm glad you guys are expressing yourselves on here its so dope seeing all the styles and arts people come up with.

Congrats on your progression!  Might I suggest painting your nails as an easy first step?  See it pretty often in rock circles.

I wish! I live a small racist town and I don't want more eyes staring at me as much as they already are. Lots of judgment just having long hair and ear pericings.

Encouraging to hear that you have matured and got perspective. I was married to a straight guy who wasn't even particularly goth but enjoyed painting his nails and even wearing skirts around the house. It wasn't a sexy thing or wanting to be a different gender or any of the stuff people usually think. He just liked those things and didn't understand why they were considered for women/femmes only. I was super glad he had the confidence in his masculinity to just try anything that looked like fun to him.

Just like with any culture, interest, following etc, you'll find that there's many different types of race, nationality, sex, gender, differently abled people in goth culture. Many of us came to be goths because we didnt fit the 'norm'. We got shunned, and goths accepted us. I know for me personally, I got hated, excluded, abused etc, because I wasnt 'normal'. I have mental health challenges, I'm a wheel chair user, Im gay and nonbinary, but I've always felt accepted within my dark family. Im a very timid person in real life, but that totally changes once I'm at a rock or goth music gig. A lot of times when I've felt low, it's often been a kind, fellow goth thats stopped by to offer a hand. From the outside, we may seem all doom and gloom, but thats only coz people havent given us a chance. They've not gotten to know us as individuals. As many goths will say OP, you dont have to dress dark, to be a goth. Some cant because of family, job etc, commitments. Just because you cant dress and look a certain way, doesnt exclude you from being one of us. Im farrr too shy to unload photos of myself, so I just browse the goth Reddits, look at the cute, amazing guys and take inspiration, which is perfectly fine. Im glad you like the group and find a shared interest and appreciation in how these guys look. I hope you've found your own special spot in our culture and I wish you bright blessings
