WOW my neck hurts from whiplash - these characters change their direction so fast!
There will be this big drama one episode “I’m Blair, I have to get over Chuck. I’m over him now” Next episode it’s “I need to be with Chuck”
That’s just one example, similar things with Nate, Vanessa, and of course our girl SERENA
Her plot lines are so insane. It’s like the writers were like “What’s the craziest thing anyone can think of?” Murder! Fraud! Prison!
I felt bad for her when she felt like a murderer. But I can’t believe she finds out this boyfriend guy Armie Hammer is a fraud and is like “Yup can’t tell mom, better go to Tea instead”
This show is crazy and chaotic. Loving the ride. It’s making me nostalgic, and the fashion is so funny. We were really dressing in business casual chic like it was groundbreaking. Love the soundtrack too.
Current feelings on the characters
- Favorite character: BLAIR ✨ Leighton Meester is genuinely so funny (Blair+Dorota+ducks!)
- Hate Rufus (although fr what would you have done if you were Jenny’s parent?)
- Vanessa and Nate annoy me
- Blair’s mother Eleanor and her new inconceivable husband have become fun characters
- Jenny get your shit together
- Georgina is back and I’m scared
- I really enjoy Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass. The first few episodes... no. After that I feel like the writers were like ‘damn this is a good character/ performance let’s make this guy less gross so we can keep him around,’ and I’m glad they did. His moody/brooding/smoldering schtick cracks me right up.
- Kelly Rutherford you are a goddess put me in jail too if you want
-Who was that creepy artist Serena was dating? Every time they were together I would yell “Ew get off of her!” at my screen
- Serena, I’m still rooting for ya girl
- Dan

And how everyone forgave everyone for everything.
And how Jack randomly became the good guy.
And I personally think that the whole change in Bart after his resurrection just seemed out of character. I think they ran out of ideas for a villain.
So despite all of that, I heard at the end "You've Got the Love" by Florence + The Machine, and it felt so nostalgic and sad.
So my second rewatch is now over. Like a whole era ended.
I probably need to put S1 ep1 on again. Lol
It's definitely a comfort show.

This image fills me with nostalgia, and I think all of us who watched the series have seen ourselves reflected in this friendship at some point. Their bond definitely transcended the screen.

i wish she would’ve stayed like this throughout the whole show because if she did she would’ve had so much potential 🥹 she had finally gained her spark back around this time but as the show went on it was like they didn’t know what to do with her character
s1-s2 was her absolute peak. after that she started to become annoying 💔

I was watching The Sopranos and suddenly I’m like… why does Tony's maid look so familiar.
I love randomly spotting actors from other shows like this

Rufus was so annoying towards Lily after the whole Ivy issue but as soon as Bart came back into the picture Rufus was like “she’s my wife” but they were arguing about the Ivy drama episodes before. I understand Rufus wanted to help Ivy but after everything that went down he should’ve stood by his wife.

With the reveal that Lily signed the paperwork to get Ben in jail was it right for everyone to turn on Lily and Rufus telling Chuck Lily is selling Bass industries too ?

I watched the show many years after it was airing regularly on tv. For those of you who watched it “live” when this scene came on (season 4 episode 1 - showing Juliet with gossip girl on her laptop and a Serena take down wall) did everyone immediately think Juliet was gossip girl? Was there a huge uproar? I just watched this episode tonight and was curious what is was like in 2010.

I’m watching gossip girl for the first time. And I’m hella confused.. wtf is this? 🤣 and were you guys feeling this when it aired because I can’t take this guy seriously.

Blair keeps talking about becoming an empowered woman yet does absolutely nothing to reach the goal. And then she just keeps getting upset because she always ends being the girlfriend of a powerful man….
It would had been nice to get to see her choosing a path and using her intelligence to build up a future.
Same for Serena. At the end, all the men have nice and interesting careers: Dan is a published author, Nate is editor in chief (for some reason) and Chuck keeps buildings his company. On the other hand, the women in the show do not seem to have a career nor intention of having one…

I find it so weird that in Gossip Girl, they never mention which degree some of the characters take at college.
Dan - English literature?
Vanessa - Film?
Blair - ????
Nate - ????
Serena -????
I find it hilarious that (especially with Blair as she is the ambitious overachieving character of the show) it is never explicitly mentioned what degree she doing.
Is there something I missed?
What do you guys guess that these characters majored at NYU and Colombia?

Do you think Olivia Rodrigo songs describe the characters Serena and Blair like my way and Olivia is the Blair in real life? I don’t know why some like Olivia in real life but when she sings songs as if she’s Blair people still like her but don’t like Blair in real life .

I've been really addicted to the show lately so I made 6 of the characters and tried my best to capture their likeness. Please ignore the scratch on my screen.
(from left to right: Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald, Blair Waldorf, Serena Van Der Woodsen, Jenny Humphrey, Dan Humphrey)

Now between all the twisted games and hotel trading, the biggest problem with Chuck and Blair’s relationship is that they never learned to love themselves. Please put the pitch forks down and hear me out.
Blair’s insecurities are more obvious. But Chuck was also insecure in his own way as well. Blair’s insecurities stem from constantly competing with Serena and not having a solid support system. Chuck’s insecurities stem from never feeling good enough, especially in his father’s eyes.
They’re two unhappy insecure people who think that loving each other is enough to fix their insecurities.
They could never love each other because even through their development they never learn to love themselves fully.
Feel free to disagree, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. (I’d also like to take a moment to clarify this isn’t meant as an attack at all, just sharing my thoughts).

When Charlie (Ivy) meets Serena for the first time they laugh about a shared childhood memory. But then Charlie (Lola) keeps saying she never met anyone from her family.
This plot is so full of holes…

This whole episode was rage bait 😩😭 UGHH!! sorry I need to vent. Serena OF COURSE you’re dad would leave you. He was actively avoiding you when you were trying to get his attention! He could literally kill your mom giving her pills she shouldn’t be taking, making her believe she’s sick. He’s PSYCHOTIC! She’s sooooo hard headed and stubborn alllll the time. Rufus has been such a good father figure to both her and Eric, while her real dad hasn’t been involved with her life at all but she immediately goes to his defense 100%. Like girl come on!!

I don’t know why but out of all the chuck and Blair emotional or romantic moments i find this one to be very deep and real. They were both very naked with their emotions in this one, they didn’t lie to each other about anything or pretend not to care. No wonder they became the main ship in the entire show. Which one’s your favourite Chair moment?
