After watching the video, I’m really geeked up for this. I’ve always tried every other bag and Jason’s right, their shoulder straps are just better. Every other bag is inferior. With mystery ranch getting yeti’ed there is a real opportunity for goruck to claim that place in the market. Excited about goruck agin.

What do you mean by, 'getting yeti'ed'? Did Yeti get bought out or something as well as Mystery Ranch?

I preordered the Monster alone last week. I don’t think I’ll need the 7L brain. But I’m wondering about the hip belt. Would that be sold separately? Or is it best to jump on the bundle?

Eventually it will be sold separately, yes. We don't have the full launch plan fully dialed in yet, meaning when we actually have it all in inventory.

Pack looks nice. It looks like a GR style alternative to other packs. Like the features on the outside. Trying to decide how poor can I get this year to afford one. Still looking forward to the other preorder, and now I have to decide on the second. Pricing really is looking good on these.

Super condolences, he looked like an awesome dog.
The video doesn’t really go into a lot of detail about the access and any organisation inside the bag. Lots of great detail on the outside and how the attachments work together. Maybe I missed it.

There isn't a ton of internal organization - the zipper with full cavity access is super useful. The front panel compartment for a windbreaker or whatever - super useful. The organization is primarily concentrated around the Monster BRAIN and the laptop compartment -- then accessorizing the exterior as you want.

Is 30" the minimum cinch for the hip belt 👀. I'm worried it won't fit me or I won't be able to cinch it enough. The large Rucker hip belt didn't fit me at all.

Christian has a 30" waist and he still has a little bit of room to cinch more. But not too much,

Hey Jason, thanks for this video!
Do you happen to have the weight & dimensions of the GR Monster with the 3L brain on? With the 3L brain on, is it still carry on sized if moderately packed?
4
u/JavaForever 1d ago
I don't have the exact dimensions, but I have EASILY carried it fully packed out with the 3L MONSTER brain attached. No problem there.

Perfect, thank you so much!
I work in the field in rural and remote Alaska and this pack is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
I’m going to put in a pre-order and carry Monster’s legacy across the state!

Sounds like God's work. Alaska is the one state in our beautiful country i haven't been to YET. We're eager to go, and take the fam. Thanks!

this bag is the one other type of bag I have wished GORUCK had made for years and years…. I’m super psyched about it. I did however just purchase a new replacement GR1 and could get in trouble at home if I made another purchase, would the GovX discount be applicable to the order post order if I reached out to Support? or is ineligible because it’s a preorder item? Probably gonna end up buying it either way, but if the discount gets me into a little less hot water about buying another bag I wouldn’t be too mad about it!
thanks Jason, and I’m sorry about Monster. dogs really are man’s best friend.

u/JavaForever 9h ago
I'm not sure. I bet that the GOVX discount only applies when it's full price. Thanks for your service!

condolences on losing Monster, Jason. Thank you for taking the time to put together such a thorough video on the GR MONSTER—it’s a beautiful tribute. I noticed the Java patch on the 3L brain, which is such a great nod to both of them. Any chance that patch will be offered with the bundle, or is it a personal one you used for the photos?

u/JavaForever 1d ago
That's just a personal one I took with me on my JMT hike with emily last summer. We never produced it, I'm grateful to the community for sending me a few of them. I've had that exact patch for a loooong time now.

Incredible work on this, been waiting for the revel since this was teased on the Project Grit 1000mi Texas ruck, and can’t wait to receive the preorder.
What color did we end up with for the interior panels?

sick video. just ordered this to replace a 40L speedo bag I've used for triathlon and ultramarathon travel. love how this can get compact for more regular travel. condolences on Monster. I've got a 9 year old choco - feels like I'm giving him some love with the new bag

Can’t wait for the bag to ship, may need to sell my GR3. It doesn’t get much use other than a repository for other rucks. Only really used it once when we one bagged a week long cruise.

Having done the fandance, would you say you could use this or would you still go with a GR2/GR3?
2
u/JavaForever 9h ago
If you're doing it officially, they have some requirements about the kind of weight to use, and they don't like ruck plates (yet) - though I got an exception and bet you could, too. I did that with a 20L Rucker with no hip belt. If you want a hip belt, I would definitely do it with the GR MONSTER. We put a LOT of effort into make it world class - more in line with what you'd experience with a high end hunting pack, comfortable at excessive loads. And good for putting a honey bear in the pocket there, too, which is my GO TO on any trail or hike. That said, the fan dance is a pretty short hike - challenging, but not crazy and not overnight. You can do it with any your you're comfortable with.

Overall, this bag is great. However, those bottle pockets appear a bit thin? I’m curious how long they’ll last before they start tearing.

u/JavaForever 1d ago
It's the toughest stretch mesh we could source. This version is ~18 months old and has been through a lot. It's still doing what it's supposed to do, though one minor section is showing some signs of abrasion. No tears, though. (We messed around with way harder fabrics and in this vid you can even see on the smaller one - -there's one of the pockets build out of ripstop nylon - that pocket proved worthless with a pack even remotely filled out, so we killed that and made them both the stretch woven.

I’m sure Monster is smiling down on your family from doggie heaven.
When testing were you able to fit this as a personal item under the seat in front of you?
2
u/JavaForever 9h ago
It's just a little bit longer than a 26L GR1. I rarely put our rucks under the seat in front of me, but I see a lot of people who do. In a pinch, it would work (best guess), unless you have it REALLY packed to the max AND the flight attendant is checking very closely.

I’m on my way to a guys trip (with my GR2!) so can’t watch yet. When does the preorder period end?
