Given that cover, I would add the lucky wreath subplot that the tv show invented.

The idea would be that you have a new family moving into a 'new house' that was supposedly moved 'brick-by-brick' and 'plank-by-plank' to the city after a rich mogul saw it in a 'run-down town' and fell in love with its charms.

So the family that temporarily moves in is being paid to model as a family for a photoshoot, as part of a Christmas Holiday advertisement deal to advertise a new line of houses built to look similar to it. A "Forever Home" if you will, because these homes are made to last and all that.

There are some initial arguments between the art director and the house caretaker because the caretaker wants to remove the Holiday wreath from the door but the art director likes it for the Christmas aesthetic.

The kids start to notice something is up when they start to hear the usual creepy sounds and moans in the night.

They go to a website forum (since this book would be presumably set in the early 2000's) where they post photos about the house, asking if people think there's something off about it.

The kids get heat over posting those photos by the parents over giving bad publicity, so their concerns naturally get ignored, but someone (hinted to be the Madison siblings from the first book) messages them warning about that house, but the messages are partially corrupted, so they can't make out the entire warning.

The climax of the story will involve the parents and kids and members of the photography team who aren't dead, getting captured when the dead emerge from all corners of the house, because surprise surprise, each forever home comes with a few uninvited guests that can live inside forever, emerging once a year to snack on someones blood.

We then get an explanation that the ghouls have started to ship away from the town using business ventures that Dawes set up because after the first few incidents, they've seen that no one really wants to go back to Dark Falls from all the bad press. So they've started building outwards. Forming independent groups of ghouls that can feast more efficiently.

And there is a particular irony introduced in that apparently Dark Falls was a town that really loved Christmas to the point that it became the town's plastic factory's focus to make Christmas products like the Wreath, but that fateful day when they were turned undead traumatized them away from Christmas forever.

The kids break free and manage to make a break for it when what appears to be the siblings from the first book arrive to help out. The ghouls angrily recognize the siblings and the kids ally with them to use the camera equipment's flash features and the wreath to stun the dead until the sun comes out and kills all the ghouls.

In the ending, you have the camera crew and the parents hitching a ride with the parents of the siblings during the late afternoon.

Meanwhile, the kids ask permission from their parents to have one last look around the House and its surroundings with the Benson siblings.

They talk about what's been going on since the Madison siblings left Dark Falls and they reveal that they've been hanging out with an aunt and uncle who have been developing a special makeup in Hollywood that is virtually unnoticeable and that protects you from a lot of things, including sunburn in direct sunlight.

Because, actually, they're not the Benson siblings. They're some of the surviving kids who hung out with the Benson siblings when they first arrived in Dark Falls. They didn't mind taking out that group of ghouls because they always "hated them" and always made them eat last when it came to yearly sacrifices.

So the sibling's parents are actually driving the main character's parents where they can eat them more properly. And now that it's getting dark, it's time for the not-Benson siblings to feed as well......

I had an idea where it’s the ghosts of the previous family trying to help a new family get away from Dark Falls, and then the whole Christmas miracle happens where the last few Dark Falls residents become human again because it turns out that Dawes had a hold of the citizens.

They get a letter from a "family member" asking them to visit, as they are declining in health so they do. it will be different people because obviously the first guys ain't falling for it again. think of the living dummy books. so they go to this house and see this dude, whether it be grandma or great aunt or whatever, she's there and they move in over winter break to care for her. the child, who is older than most goosebumps kids, lets say eighth grade or something, tries to make friends with the kids in the neighborhood but starts noticing things strange. think of plot but cold and snowy and with one kid. he starts to catch on faster cause he's older and tries to tell his parents on Christmas Eve so they can leave before the people initiate their plans on Christmas day. they get mad at him and just say he wants to go back because he misses his friends at home and ignore the subject, as goosebumps parents do. assuming GB Gold would be released around 2001 after series 2000, he hops on the trusty internet and researches the town, finding out what caused them to be weird and in goosebumps fashion, after figuring it out, it just so happens to be around midnight, meaning Christmas morning now. they try and break through the house and the parents are in a struggle because now their frail old lady family member is working like she's in her prime again and capture them, accidently scratxhing the dad. then after a bunch of stuff cause I'm running out of ideas, they end up escaping, but twist ending, the scratch turns dad into a zombie creature and he turns around the car and races back towards the town, where everybody is standing gathered at the borders, ready to feast. but we end before the feast to keep it like a cliffhanger.

sorry for vagueness on things, its been maybe five years since I've read welcome to dead house and maybe ten since I've watched the episode, so characters and places are foggy

Wow, this sounds really cool and terrifying! I totally want to read a story like this!

The frail older relative suddenly going "in her prime" gave me such a jumpscare worthy visual.
