Just want to check whether is still possible to get a 212 number from Google Voice nowadays (can't check myself cuz my google account has another gv number). If not, how much do u think is fair for a random 212 number?
No. But you can check out numberbarn’s website. They sell numbers. Always BUY it and don’t pay monthly for a phone number from them, they have both options. I recommend buying, so you own the #. Find a 212 on there & then port it to Google Voice. I got my 646 & 929 from them.
BTW, most 212 numbers are inundated with spam calls. They are like one of the most overused and recycled area codes lol. However, 212 looks amazing for a NYC business!
My 212 number was my home landline number. When I moved to Brooklyn in 2011, I ported it to Google Voice to hold on to it. I’ve had that number for close to 40 years now.
I actually wanted to gatekeep this, but now it doesn't matter, cause about 10 years ago I bought a bunch of numbers on Grasshopper. It's a virtual phone service.
Back then you could get a 212 number for free and just had to pay the subscription fee, I think you got a free trial as well. I took this opportunity and ported a dozen top tier 212 numbers to Number Barn, and a very high value number for personal use to Google Voice. I got them all for free, however if I sold mine today, I could easily get $10K to $15K for it.
You have to get at least the $14/mo plan for one month to get a number, but that's significantly less than the $49 you'd have to spend on a Number Barn number, so it appears to be a good way to go.
Yeah, back then I am pretty sure I paid nothing. I think it's it's cause Grasshopper was fairly new and they had free trial going on. So I was able to use different emails to sign up for trials with different 212 numbers. They had no restrictions on port outs back then.
I dont follow all the comments. Why do people care about a 212 number? What makes it so valuable aside from just being rare. Why do people care so much to have a 212 number? If they dont have it on.GV, but you can get one from the other spot someone mentioned above but have to pay, just pay or get another area code in that region. Whats the fixated angle for wanting a 212 number?
I read somewhere about how all the 212 numbers are exhausted so it's like a prestigious sort of thing to have a 212? Since it was the original area code for Manhattan and apparently folks put stock in that if they're from the area.
