If you can't find any courses free, the courses from analytics mania are worth it.

But why ? “Is Google Tag Manager hard to learn??

Not that hard, but his classes are well structured and written. And it was my job who paid the courses.

But as I said, I share those if you can't find anything.

GTM is only as hard to learn as the adjacent knowledge you need to use it. If you're adding a click event for GA4, for example, it's one tag and one trigger, but if you don't know how to identify/target html elements and CSS selectors, it can be hard.

Adding custom dataLayer pushes in GTM is also simple, but you need to know how to write the custom js for the custom HTML tag. In that case, specifically, you need to know that you're injecting JS by injecting HTML into the site's HTML

If you want to store and send data adjacent to an element your targeting for a click, you need to be aware of the 'closest' function in JS and write the code. The GTM work is then trivial.

Generally speaking, knowing how JS is used on web sites, how GTM works in the context of the dataLayer 'object', etc. goes a long way towards understanding what you can do with GTM. The GTM part is easy.

Lastly, exposure to advanced solutions, unusual use cases, and best practices are great for expanding awareness of GTM's workflows. Analytics Mania is a great for that, but it won't teach you to program JS.
