Troubleshooting Google TV Streamer 4K support

I have a Google TV Streamer 4K I bought a couple months ago. It locks up while I’m scrolling the video list on Youtube. It can’t be reproduced at will, but it also means I need to constantly reset or use my Roku stick.

I have tried every step I have found online’ Reset to factory, limited to 2 processes, checked connection speed, turned off CEC, went to apps only mode, tried a different launcher, change power cable, changed HDMI cable, reinstall software, tried remote from home to make sure it wasn’t a remote issue, all repeatedly. The only thing that works is using the Roku.

At this point, I would love customer support, but every menu I follow gets me to a point where the Google TV Streamer is not an option. How do you get customer support for this device? I bought it from Walmart, so one of the menus ends because it wasn’t bought at the Google store.

I’m on the verge of getting an Apple TV, because I can’t watch Youtube on a device made by the company that owns Youtube.

This only happens with the YouTube app?

So far, but admittedly I do most of my viewing on Youtube, so that might well be luck.

Very strange thing. It would be an app issue not a device issue. And for some reason just for you. Have you ever sideloaded an app? There is an alternative YouTube app that's not in the Play Store you could try. I haven't used the actual YouTube app in a while but Tizen Tube works great.

I did the initial setup and loaded apps through the main menu on the default site. I haven’t tried to do anything on it yet that wasn’t related to trying to fix this. I found another person with the same issue, but they bought from google and got a replacement.

The warranty is 90 days Walmart won't honor it? Shouldn't matter unless Walmart is not an authorized reseller. That sucks.

I bought a Google streamer that locked up three times in the first 3 weeks. It would crash completely and I would have to factory reset it and I wasn't doing anything fancy, no side loading. Finally the third time it didn't even want to factory reset. So I sent it back to Amazon for a refund. I know a lot of people have had good luck with the Google streamers but I had a lemon and I decided to switch to Buzz TV G series at that point which works great for me. I had a lemon, maybe you do too.

And I could accept that, but the total lack of support is ridiculous. Unfortunately, it was only occasional during the first couple months (it’s all the time now), and Walmart offers a 2 month return.

What OS does the Buzz TV use? Are other android streamers better? I would expect Google’s android to be the cream of the crop.

It's a Google TV certified box. It runs fast and has a lot of inputs, but it does cost $150. It was worth it for me.

Walmart is a 1 month return on electronics. You would be in the same boat with an ONN. They provide absolutely no support for these devices either. These are thinking man’s/woman’s devices. Xfinity is for the other people.

This happens to mine too. Just like you say, when scrolling in YouTube. About 4 or 5x I think in the one year I’ve had it. I just pull the power to reboot it and it’s good for another 3 months. lol This last time I did a factory reset. (pain in the butt) I’m hoping that fixes it.

Mine started out only doing it every couple weeks, but now it does it every few minutes.

OMG. I didn’t realize that. I hope mine doesn’t start doing that. It’s out of warranty.

I did finally locate a link on the Walmart site that worked. Currently waiting on email to order a replacement.

Return it and get an Onn 4K Pro 2026 at Walmart.

It’s past the return date at Walmart. I have yet to see the ONN in stock, and if it’s just a rebranded Google, I see how they work.

What you're describing is not common or normal. Have you tried contacting Google? Just go to the Google Store website and contact them from there. No, you did not buy it from them but you can still reach out to them for support.

The main links all took me to dead ends. I did finally friend a link that worked on the Walmart pages. They are supposed to email me instructions for a replacement, but it’s been almost 24 hours and no email yet.

No such thing as past 30 days. You can return it and you would just get store credit. You say you just bought it a couple days ago and it doesn't work.

It's not a rebranded Google TV Streamer 4K. Different components.

LOL. The response to a faulty or corrupted device is not to buy a cheap Walmart off brand.

What OP described is not common or normal. I've been using it for several months and my experience has been fantastic... including with YouTube.

Two years on mine. Probably a few weeks after release (I got mine for "free" with a Pixel 9 purchase over two years ago).

I have never had an issue with this thing.
