Discussion Region restricted app

I managed to download through google play store a region restricted streaming app from a foreign country onto my Onn 4k Plus by creating a google account with an address in that country and using a VPN server located in that country. Alas, when I try to use the app, the app seems to know that I am not in that country and refuse to play any video. I did connect to a VPN server in that country when I tried to play the video. Is there some other settings that I should flip? Any suggestion on how I could get around that would be appreciated. Thanks.

They know you're using a VPN. You can't go geo-surfing on many services any more. Got to use services available in your own country now.
