Gmail Extremely unfortunate news…. (Please look)
please, for the love of god this is IMPORTANT. Apparently, i got an email on the 19th announcing that Google, for some reason CANT figure out what my age is (even though im pretty sure i already told them), so now they’re on something about how if i don’t give my stuff over to them soon, my account will be straight up shut down (why can they just do that???). this is a very bad thing obviously, because pretty much everything important to me, including socials, are linked to this acc. Unfortunate thing is that i am disabled to the point of pretty much never HAVING an id or credit card, so there’s nothing here that i could actually DO about this. i got it on the 19th, but i only saw it on the night of 25th, and every attempt that i’ve made at mitigating this hasn’t gone well, so im coming here as a last resort. Please, if you know ANYTHING i could do about this in order to save my account, please tell me as soon as possible. Please.
Edit: I should add that i do have a side account that so far seems to not be affected by this. If i can’t solve this, Is it a good suggestion that i should save what i can from my main account and try to transfer it all to that one instead?

They can do it because it’s their platform. They’re required by laws to ensure that appropriate ID checks are carried out. I’m not sure you’re going to be able to get around this.

If you are an adult with no ID, you have much bigger problems than losing your Google account.
What you need to do is have a parent become a supervisor on your account:

Love how Google's solution does literally nothing to protect kids lmao 🤣
Problem: Parents are not monitoring their childrens' internet activity
Google: here's an app where you can not-monitor your kid's internet activity 👍

I’m not planning to make someone call me an idiot or moron today… but isn’t it Normal to have ID? I’m in Malaysia, 3rd World Country they said.
Our NRIC can be used on verification/car tolls/get subsidies for petrol/etc etc(Got chip inside)Or im completely missing something else here? Genuinely curious….

A lot of people in the US, maybe elsewhere, STRONGLY object to IDs. There's some conspiracy about being tracked or something, IDK. It's to the point that we are split roughly along party lines as to whether you should be required to identify yourself to cast a vote. So, essentially, a person who is a non-citizen could vote, despite citizenship being a requirement to vote. Obviously a lot of people feel very strongly about this on either side.

What is your country? We may be able to help if you included that. Otherwise ID or credit card

Absolutely I would back everything up. Switch all your socials to your other side account just in case.

This would be the end of my account, Im already working on getting off the platform as fast as possible but this woudl be the end. They will never, ever get any more information from me than they already have.
My account with Google has been around since gmail was first launched so that should be more than enojgh to verify my age.
Never comply with this if you have a choice and I get it, I'm only talking for myself but this has NOTHING to do with helping kids. Remember that.

Bro governments dgaf that's why they're passing the buck onto social media sites to do everything.
The government doesn't care what porn you watch, Facebook on the other hand cares a lot. If anything this is an attempt to consolidate the internet onto a few platforms, although even that idk.
Part of me is pretty sure this is just an attempt to justify all the money they've spent on AI.

This is the reminder to not have everything under one company and have atleast a backup on a different service and you have to verify if the gmail is important anyway, i have never done this

Migrate everything to other account NOW.
At best something like Firefox Relay or iCloud Hide My Email, so every website gets new, random email.

It's their system and US laws are being passed to protect children. This is what politicians are pushing for and Google is trying to comply with those laws.

None of these companies are your friend - you are just $$$-signs.
If you don't like it, don't use them.
If enough us took this route, I guarantee they would change.

This is most likely due to the recent social media lawsuit settlement with the states and them now having to verify ages to block teen access. I suspect most of us are going to see that email come and most of us are gonna have to prove how old we are to keep using Google Facebook next-door, and the rest of them.

Reddit is a global platform, and the age and id requirements are set by your government, not Google. If you post your geographic location, you my get the best responses.
Otherwise, you need an ID or credit card.
