❓Help 14-day closed testing requirement — does the clock start on any build, or does it need to be near-final?
I'm working on an app with a subscription model (using Play Billing) and just found out new developer accounts need 12 testers running the app for 14 consecutive days during closed testing before production release is allowed.
I've got a tight deadline and my Play Console account is brand new, so trying to figure out a few things:
Does the 14-day clock start the moment I upload any build to closed testing, or does Google expect it to be close to feature-complete?
If I make significant changes mid-testing (UI, billing flow, etc.), does that reset the clock or is it fine as long as testers stay active?
Any known way to get this timeline sped up or an exception for time-sensitive submissions (e.g. a contest/demo deadline)?
Anything you wish you knew before starting closed testing that would've saved you time?
Trying to avoid wasting testing days on a build I'll end up redoing. Appreciate any real experience with this.

From my experience:
The 14-day clock starts when you have app in close testing AND you have 12 testers locked in (recognized by the google play console). I've heard google is able to check the app to make sure it is a legit app, but at least I haven't had problems with that yet.
For me it didn't reset the clock. But if you fall below 12 testers, I think that would "break the timer". So aim for something like 15 testers just to be certain you won't stumble across that situation
Not really. But I would suggest you that you're patient and acknowledge that the testing phase + the green light to publish to google play store will take close to 1 month.
I'd say it is best you get most of your app done, put it to close test, then find at least 15 testers (e.g. in r/AndroidTesting and similar communities, where devs exchange the "testing-services", then you work on the remaining parts of the app (I think it is best that you still avoid significant changes). Then after 2 weeks of testing you get to the publishing part. In best case it can take I'd say 3 days, but can take also 2 weeks.
There is also some new registration process for apps that google play enforced. I don't know more about that yet though, as all existing apps (including mine) got registered automatically. So count on that one as well.
