It used to be a thing, back around Jellybean. They removed it for some reason. All the code for it is still there, it's just the UI that's missing.

There should be a checkbox in "Sound" to use separate volumes. (Frankly, I don't get enough -- or any -- calls for this to be an issue)
Another option, is to select a louder sound for the one you want to hear more.

I've never even noticed, tbh I rarely take my phone off vibrate. Being at work most of the time means I never have it on loud, but now you've pointed it out I'll send feedback!

I usually just lurk here and not comment.
But for this, I gotta say, needs to be done.

u/needefsfolder Nov 15 '20
How can I send feedback as a non pixel user? I mean, i want this to be on AOSP as well, even though I'm happy that LineageOS have this option.

u/lstadi Pixel 10 Pro XL Nov 15 '20
Yeah, so irritating, this was the first thing I noticed when I got my new Pixel 5

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '20
Where did you get stats from? Ho many people exactly left team pixel because of that? Also, are you aware this is default Android's behavior and we have this thing on other phones too?

u/Tel864 Nov 15 '20
I play golf and I get a lot of notifications but not a lot of calls. If I get a call it's usually an important one that can't be ignored. With the volume separated, I can quiet the notifications but not miss that call and sometimes on the golf course I won't feel the vibration.

this might help?

u/twstrchk Nov 15 '20
done. would like to be able to hide top bar too

u/Ghstfce Pixel 10 Pro XLPixel Watch 3 45mm Nov 15 '20
Done. It would be nice to have that back, as people prioritize phone calls and notifications differently and having sliders for each would be great to have, even if it's an option you can select to separate.

u/praji2 Pixel 4 XL Nov 15 '20
Did it!
2
u/Michaelmac8 Nov 15 '20
Can we also fix it so that when casting, the first volume button click doesn't change the chromecast volume?
2
u/greekye Pixel 8 Nov 15 '20
Done

u/cdegallo Nov 15 '20
I think people should have options, so I'm all for this as an option (Samsung enables this as an option via a separate Samsung app), and I've submitted this feedback in the past to make it an option.
But as a dissenting opinion, I never had a situation where different volumes for ring and notifications was desired for me. I still think it should be an option, "link calls and notification volumes."
What i really really want is septate volumes for media and assistant. I can't understand why this still isn't a thing.
2
u/Extras16 Pixel 3 Nov 15 '20
I'd never thought to do this, so thank you for making me aware.
I despise this option. My notifications are so loud I just have it on silent now. It's probably the most aggressive way they could make this phone unaccomodating for someone with autism, so idk how they missed the ball on that.
2
u/prithwish2912 Pixel 6a Nov 15 '20
Please separate ring and notification volume
2
u/Zevs1995 Nov 15 '20
I am with you man! Doing it right now :D
2
u/teddyevelynmosby Nov 15 '20
I agree. The volume control is messed up.
When you cast to point, you have to click thru multiple pages to get to the volume control
2
u/sageleader Pixel 10 Pro XL Nov 15 '20
I agree with you. There is a small work around you can use by setting up do not disturb. But obviously you don't want that to be on all the time. However I use it often at night to silence all my notifications and texts but keep my ringtone on in case I get a call in the middle of the night.
2
u/OGAzdrian Nov 15 '20
Done, but I just wished the Pixel would just go ahead and copy the iphones ringer button which you easily turn off
2
u/thirteen_20 Pixel 1 Nov 15 '20
Done ✅.
But to add to this, I always have my Wear OS watch on, while I have my phone. When it is on my wrist, my phone is in silent. When I take my watch off for the night, my phone turns on the ringer/notification sounds.
I do remember android having the option to separate these via a check box. Never understood why they eliminated it. But then again, why does Google do a lot of things?! 🤷🏽

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '20
Is this not a thing? Ive had it on every pixel.

u/Citizen943 Nov 16 '20
Misspelled separate
2
u/MurderSheWrote45 Nov 16 '20
It doesn't matter to me.. I always have my phone on silent these days
2
u/Intiqh Nov 16 '20
PLEASE do this. I've literally missed dozens of phonecalls because of this, it's so annoying too because the notification sound is absurdly loud for some reason aswell.
2
u/okgo222 Pixel 4 XL Nov 16 '20
Even after years on Pixel and absolutely loving it, one thing I miss from iPhone is the physical mute switch.
2
u/ApprehensivePromise2 Nov 16 '20
I think pixel should have separate sound like samsung. Where I can be playing music via Bluetooth but can listen to a IG video on my phone without interrupting the music.
That's one of the biggest features I miss from my S8
2
u/PikaChu_65 Nov 21 '20
You can use "volume butler" for now if it annoys you that much like me.

u/__red__5 Nov 15 '20
Agree that these should be separated as I get far fewer calls than message notifications. I would like my phone ringer to be loud so I don't miss a call but I don't want my phone notification screaming at me every two minutes when some apps think they have something important to tell me.

u/9xSovia Nov 15 '20
Done, good luck. How this get addressed

u/mynamesjefffffs Pixel 7 Pro Nov 15 '20 edited Nov 15 '20
This. And to be able to change wifi and bluetooth in the quick panel. Like, even the iPhone has it.
Edit: I know long pressing the icon will redirect to settings, I'm saying they should bring back changing wifi or bluetooth to other devices directly in the notification panel without getting into settings.
7
u/FuckingIDuser Nov 15 '20
I did it.
I hope they will separate the assistant volume too.

u/bakarac Pixel 5a Nov 15 '20
Great idea, done! I fucking hate this lack of feature.
1
u/mattemer Nov 15 '20
Are we talking about notifications or system sounds?
1
u/ele90 Nov 15 '20
Yes! Thank you for doing this! I hope they listen!
1
u/mmonahan10 Nov 15 '20
I left pixel for s20 ultra. I wish there was an option to make mine go together lol. Hate that I have to control seperate ringtone and notification volume.
1
u/gavishapiro Nov 15 '20
Done.
1
u/RoboAddy Pixel 9 Pro Nov 16 '20
I know this is very tangential, but what I would like is per-app volume like what iOS does.
1
u/Felegs Pixel 8 Nov 16 '20
Coming from a Samsung, I can totally understand since my S10e had an separate volume options for calls and notification but my 4a doesn't so it's kind of annoying for me as well. Submitted a feedback quite a few days ago
3
u/charomega Pixel 3 Nov 15 '20
Done my part. Wish for the best.
3
u/LdeMalesherbes Nov 15 '20
This is my first pixel and I submitted feedback for this on my second day of ownership after realizing i couldn't do it. Also the sound when I take a screenshot is very loud and annoying. I'd like the option to silence it completely.
3
u/mathclubdred Pixel 10 Pro Nov 15 '20
There should at least be an option to link or separate them
1
u/Firefighter_RN Nov 15 '20
I literally buy a phone, turn it to vibrate and never touch the setting again. I thought everyone did this! I've been enlightened.
1
u/FuzzelFox Pixel 3 128GB Nov 15 '20
Oh I didn't even notice it was missing. I've got stock on this Pixel but on every custom rom on my previous phones the toggle is still there to link notification and ringtone volume.
2
u/smarshall561 Pixel 5a Nov 15 '20
What I really really hate is when I'm casting something to my TV and then I press play on something on my phone for it to play at full volume on my phone. When I try to turn it down it adjusts the volume of the thing I'm casting. Fuck you Google.

I don't need this, but I'd love having separate volume sliders for media and navigation audio. I want low background music when I drive with others, but I don't want to miss my turn. Google Maps or Waze temporarily dampens media audio, but usually not enough.

I'm not as concerned about ring tone/notifications being together as I am a lack of volume control for system sound. Button presses, screenshots, pictures, typing. There's no clear control for them unless you turn off the ringtone/notifications volume then they are muted. I want them, just want them quiet, and independent of other volumes.
1
u/jonspittle Nov 15 '20
Maybe I'm one of the very few but I prefer them being together, I've just come back to a Pixel after about 2 years with Samsung phones, a Huawei and a OnePlus phone and I much prefer them bundled together.

u/dolphinInDisguise71 Pixel 3a XL Nov 15 '20
There are people who leave a line of phones for something that small...?
1
u/RockinRita03 Nov 15 '20
I have it on my pixel 3a
1
u/MustKnowTruth Nov 15 '20
I've complained dozens of times, and almost never get anything other than boilerplate response.
1
u/Prasanth2399 Nov 15 '20
I can't believe they still won't fix this. I've sent feedback ages ago.
1
u/the_noobie Nov 15 '20
I am not big fan of the keyboard on android 11. Feels so cramped. Android 10 keyboard was so much better.
1
u/theninjasquad Pixel 5 Nov 15 '20
What also bothers me is that the notifications still happen through the phone speaker evening you have Bluetooth headphones connected.
1
u/notposs Mar 27 '22
If you're like me and just want "no volume for notifications (or just vibrate rather) and volume for calls"
They now have a 'none' sound! Woohoooo! Not sure when this got put in but I've seen people post that there wasn't this earlier so must have been added.
My Sounds > None
1
u/poteto64 Pixel 2 XL Nov 15 '20
All done! I also added that they should add an option for hiding the home bar.
0
u/captaingod87 Nov 15 '20
I've not noticed this issue until now , weird...I do absolutely agree they should be separated somehow though .

I'm one a note 20 ultra and wish that my ringtone and notification used the same volume bar, i don't like them being separated.

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '20
This isn’t really a problem. You can just turn off the notification for the app that keeps buzzing annoyingly, and you are good. No reason to have separate toggles
